A mother is still breastfeeding her 8 yr old daughter!

Will try and watch it tho I think it might make me feel ill.

There is also a woman who tandem feeds her 4 yr old twins!

OP posts:

Oh god, you think worse of me then???

monkeytrousers · 28/01/2006 16:39

Has this thing kicked off yet?

Mud · 28/01/2006 16:41

but i've never used formula. i have used cow's milk after breastfeeding to around a year. is that wrong in your world too?

beansprout · 28/01/2006 16:44

It would be wrong for ds as he has had eczema so we don't give anything with cow's milk but it is not wrong in my world per se. It doesn't bother me what you do!! I'm just saying that you are not being abused for your choices but other people are!

beansprout · 28/01/2006 16:45

Nah monkeytrousers - we are all fabulously indifferent!

FrannyandZooey · 28/01/2006 17:01

Only just caught the end of this, but would just like to add that while everyone is entitled to an opinion on this subject, posting this:

"breatfeeding an 8 year old is abusinve and sick"
"and a 4 yar old not much better"

is bang out of order. People cannot be expected to tolerate you saying their behaviour is not much better than abusive or sick. I think you should apologise for this post Mud.

Mud · 28/01/2006 17:03

no shan't

FrannyandZooey · 28/01/2006 17:05

Oh well since you put it so eloquently...

well that has been an intresting read!!!!! I bf mine in public @ got mad when people used to give me the dead eye even though they couldn't see any thing. Doing it when they are 8 to me just doesn't seem right. Not sure what the point of the program is, i will watch it

hercules · 28/01/2006 17:48

I've been thinking about this and tbh I have made comments on other subjects that could easily have been taken the same way I took Mud's comments. I said "shudder" at a thread about shaving your garden as to me it seems prepucesent(spelling) but of course that's ridiculous for me to assume that anyone who does it is thinking along those lines. Noone jumped on me for doing that yet if I'd done it on this thread ie shuddered about bf I'd have been stoned.

I have no idea how many people shave there so for all I know it could be far more common than I believe so making me the one who has a problem. I guess those who do so would defintely think that whether they say it or not ie I'm the one with the problem which of course I am.

Do you think they could be accused of being smug ?

bundy · 28/01/2006 18:06

sigh

mud talking to herself again

or should i say cod? (no difference either way)

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Mud · 28/01/2006 18:26

yawn
and stil wrong

bundy · 28/01/2006 18:26

yawn, give up, it's very sad & your considerable energy could be used up in better way

Chloe55 · 28/01/2006 18:35

I am actually in shock that 4.2 is the average age

The thing is though the advert for the programme is obviously there to shock as that's how it will gain it's viewers so I guess the majority of people will be amazed at mother's still bf 8 yrs old.

I wouldn't say bf at 4 can deem someone freaky but I would be very uncomfortable about doing it myself. And, like you Mud this is because I would find the thought of my child, at which point is going to school will be coming up and asking to be bf.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and you don't need to spurt facts just to make that opinion count. I actually like the nailfile story as a comparison.

mrspitt · 28/01/2006 18:37

Sorry to see you getting jumped on so harshly mud.
I wouldn't agree with the choice of words used but i wouldn't be comfortable with bf my 4 yo but he is the size of a 6/7 yo. I bf all 3 of my kids and as far as i was made aware the health benefits are there up until age 1. I may be entirely wrong. But i also do not know anyone who has bf until 2 never mind 4. Maybe that is a sad reflection on our society .
Don't think others should be attacked for expressing their opinion though. I thought that mn was for just that reason.

faeriemum · 28/01/2006 18:56

i dont suppose im really in any position to comment, as i did not bf my ds....it didnt feel right for me at the time and i can honestly say that i would not change my descision if i could go back...... i dont feel its a 'bonding' process....as i had no trouble at all bonding with ds, and visa versa.....i do feel imho that bf over 2 is slighty abit ..'cringy'...but heading on to 4+ yr olds, they dont 'need' it do they.
..im afraid i cant comment much further as i dont know what bf 'feels' like and may or may not feel differently if i had experianced doing it.....

FrannyandZooey · 28/01/2006 19:23

I think MN is primarily to support other parents. That's what it says at the top of the talk pages anyway. Calling someone else's parenting "not much better than abusive and sick" is possibly stepping over the line into criticism, don't you think?

Mud · 28/01/2006 19:24

nto when it concerns an 8 year old no I dont'

Mud · 28/01/2006 19:25

or sory yes i do. i stepped way over the line into criticism as i was trying to be criutical

hercules · 28/01/2006 19:26

no one here does bf an eight year old, just a four year old.

FrannyandZooey · 28/01/2006 19:28

You make your points so beautifully mud, it is hard not to be swayed by the clarity of your arguments.

Mud · 28/01/2006 19:29

thank you
