Is anyone else addicted to Pointless?

I'm horridly addicted to Pointless. I have it on series link and watch it at night whenever DH is away. I desperately want to be on the show, I even applied. Am I a sad git?

I know all the capitals of South America.

2ombie5layer · 21/02/2012 21:10

I dont think I know any pointless things (although I do get the odd pointless answer)

2ombie5layer · 21/02/2012 21:10

Actually depending on the person maybe films of an actor/actress.

notpodd · 21/02/2012 21:12

and names of the more obscure of Handy Manny's tools surely 2ombie

Sometimes it's genius stuff like the plays of Arthur Miller, or fripperies like the names of Teletubbies. (I'd go for Dipsy.)

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 21:14

I'm personally hoping for Julio-Claudian Roman emperors when it's my turn. Grin

notpodd · 21/02/2012 21:16

Commodus? I still want REM albums - Fables of the reconstruction - kaching

OP posts:
LineRunner · 21/02/2012 21:23

No Commodus was afterwards. As mad as the Julio-Claudians, though.

I know nothing about REM. That's all yours.

Sadly, I am good on Slade, Abba, Erasure and boxing.

Eglu · 21/02/2012 21:35

My other DC just moan about it, but I'm sure DD will just continue to love it.

Cerubina · 21/02/2012 21:49

Love it. Maternity leave about to come to an end, and I'm not quite sure how I will manage when I can't watch it daily with my babies on the playmat! They love it too (I tell myself).

linerunner did you ever see the head to head round where the question was South American capitals? Some of the worst play etiquette exhibited there! Couple A said something like Paramarimbo, capital of Suriname. Couple B said well we happen to know that the capital of Suriname is Paramaribo so we'll say that. When all they needed to do to avoid being twats was say Lima or something and win the point - didn't need to rub the others' noses in it!

Have won the final a few times with music - Prince, Bon Jovi, Kate Bush etc Top 40 singles. I like to think that Xander would have swooned at me knowing my Prince as he lurves him!

I'm loving Pointless - as a hormonal pregnant woman/new parent I've been avoiding lots of telly and recording Pointless and a few other quiz shows.

Was killing myself laughing yesterday with the episode with Types of Trouser and the student who didn't know Ringo Starr was in the Beatles - and AA was so nice about it!

I do well on childrens books and geography, but the only times I've had no clue at all is music since 2000...

notpodd · 21/02/2012 22:09

I loved that one about Ringo Starr - I still remember what Richard said: Two people didnt know Ringo Starr was in the Beatles, and they are both here apparently. The trousers round was also fantastic. A classic episode I'd say.

OP posts:
Ponders · 21/02/2012 22:37

yesterday???

I watched it yesterday - I don't remember trousers or Ringo!

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 22:40

Cerubina, ah yes, I remember Paramaribo-gate. I was shouting at the telly. Grin

Squirrelface · 21/02/2012 23:01

Pointless Celebrities starts on Saturday (25th Feb) at 6.15pm. (Oh no, I'm sounding sadder by the minute.)

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 23:02

Oooh, who's on? I'll be watching.

Squirrelface · 21/02/2012 23:07

Don't get your hopes up too much linerunner - all I've seen mentioned so far is Christopher Biggins and Lesley Joseph!

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 23:10

And there was me hoping for Brian Cox and Dara.....

Ah well, I'm sure it'll be grand. Smile

notcitrus · 22/02/2012 14:34

I'm about a month behind, getting them recorded for me automatically.

Was sympathetic to the Paramaribo guys as if they hadn't said it properly then the others might have been allowed it - sometimes people get away with mispronunciations and other times they don't. Thought it was quite harsh when Greta was disallowed for Gretl as a child in Sound of Music, for example.

ISpyPlumPie · 22/02/2012 17:27

Christmas wrapping - get in!! Told you I do low-brow best Grin

DilysPrice · 22/02/2012 17:48

OK, I've officially cracked, I just took a photo of the TV screen so I could test DH on the anagrams when he gets home.

LottieJenkins · 22/02/2012 17:55

I thought not allowing "are you lonely this christmas" wasnt very fair!! Hmm

hocuspontas · 22/02/2012 17:58

Yes! I got 'King Ralph'. I win £5,000.

iklboo · 22/02/2012 18:06

Yes cos I was on it last year Grin

LineRunner · 22/02/2012 18:22

Damn I missed it, owing to having pointless row with DD (do you see what I did there?).

iklboo, tell all. Smile
