Also admiration and swooning. If you haven't watched all 7 seasons, read no further!

Two Cathedrals - have watched it several times and only just realised last night that Mrs Landingham was driving back to the WH as Bartlet wanted to tell her about the MS.

I love the scenes with young Mrs L and Jed.

Why "two" cathedrals though?

We haven't had a trivia round in a while so:

  1. Which veg does Bartlet not like? Bonus points for things he does like.
  1. What's the code word for those in the know about the MS?
  1. Name Toby's brother, Josh's sister and Bartlet's brother.
  1. Who is Sam's favourite fiction writer?
  1. Without googling her last name Wink, who plays Annabeth Schott?
  1. Which Senate rule does Donna know about that helps Senator Stackhouse?
  1. Which ancient Egyptian curse hangs over CJ?

I watched The Stackhouse Filibuster last night. Wonderful episode.

I can only do some of these!

  1. I think it was green beans? Charlie quoted it to a magazine reporter and trouble somehow followed. it was something grown in Oregon, anyway, because they then did a stopover there to appease the farmers
  1. Toby's brother = David. Bartletts brother = Jonathon. Josh's sister = Maria?. ( she always used to listen to Ave Maria)

5 Kirsten Chenoweth

6 that you can yield to a question without giving away the floor (he can therefore sit and have a drink)

  1. The curse of the cat - is it called 'bast 'or something?

I'll go and google the others.....

(love the Stackhouse filibuster episode)

tribpot · 13/07/2012 11:44

Josh's sister is called Joanie.

Agree on the green beans, can't think which veg he does like though.

It's Kristen, not Kirsten, but is it Chenoweth or Chenowith? I think the latter!

Ancient Curse of Bast, I believe.

And the code word - is it Sagittarius? I'm sure that's wrong.

FreelanceMama · 13/07/2012 12:34

Q: would WW be better if it ended at episode 20, Season 7? We watched that season through lovefilm a disc at a time, and thought we'd finished when we got to the end of ep. 20. How brave, I thought, to leave things slightly loose rather than patronise the audience with a cheesy final episode that wraps up everything...oh wait, I've just found another disc. It was lovely to have a bit more, but did feel a bit disappointed with how slow some of it was

Fiderer · 13/07/2012 12:49
  1. Veg - yes, green beans
  1. Codeword - Saggitarius
  1. Toby's brother - David, Josh's sister - Joanie and Bartlet's brother - Jonathan
  1. Who is Sam's favourite fiction writer?
  1. Annabeth - I didn't know without googling. Kristin Chenoweth it is. She and Sorkin were together for a while, weren't they?
  1. Senate rule - yes, yielding for a question. Think Donna should have got more credit for realising about the autistic grandson
  1. Curse - yes, the Ancient Curse of Bast

You're good Grin What about no. 4? It's in the Stackhouse Filibuster episode.

OP posts:
Fiderer · 13/07/2012 12:52

Freelance, I like cheesy "what they did then" episodes Grin

I did think "What's next?" would have been a better title than "Tomorrow" though.

OP posts:
Acekicker · 13/07/2012 13:40

Harriet Hayes from Studio 60 was supposed to be based on Kristin Chenoweth from when she went out with Sorkin (sings, Christian, cops a load of flak from the Christian right for selling out etc) takes character analogy to obvious conclusion with Matt and the drug problem and gives Olivia a chance to hover over the delete button and consult her libel guide

I always think Stanley the shrink in the WW was supposed to be a similar character to Sydney Friedman in MAS*H which was a gag about Freud I think.

The Stackhouse Filibuster always makes me cry.

I started watching my big set of extras discs the other week on the train. I've just done the first series - some really interesting stuff including the guys who were consultants and had roles in the Clinton administration - really fascinating. One of the 'Charlies' was a kid from Arkansas and he said it was the most unbelievable time. There was a great one about Two Cathedrals as well - apparently Martin Sheen was a bit concerned about doing the scene as he's a devout Catholic but they talked him round. Lots of priests (and I think Richard Schiff's Rabbi) all went to watch it being filmed. Someone said to Martin's priest did he know what was about to happen with Jed raging at God and smoking and the priest replied along the lines of 'yes I can't wait to see it, it will be brilliant'!

gettingalifenow · 13/07/2012 15:28

Fiderer, is 4 Charles Dickens? That's one of the things Stackhouse reads in the filibuster, so just might be? (along with the rules of cards and various recipes...)

BartletForAmerica · 13/07/2012 16:06

I am sure that everyone will have seen this already, but this was new to me yesterday.

tribpot · 13/07/2012 16:43

That's a great video, BfA! I second one of the comments on YouTube "how long did it take you to make this video?" It must have taken the guy months and months of effort to get it so perfect.

Fiderer · 13/07/2012 16:53

getting yes, Stackhouse was reading David Copperfield.

That is a great video and I love the story about two Cathedrals.

Another question: What is Mallory's surname?

I could also ask why Sam thought she was a child but I guess we'll have to gloss over that.

OP posts:
FreelanceMama · 13/07/2012 16:55

Actually, just checked and it was ep. 19 we 'ended' on 'transition' when Sam comes back and sorts Josh out and he and Donna head off on holiday.

Don't get me wrong - I was delighted by the extra episodes especially Institutional Memory (21) and CJ, but I wasn't a massive Santos (especially Mrs S) fan so I could have taken or left their scenes.

So can I throw in some WW trivia? Not sure I've read every post on this thread but hopefully will be some new ones.

Fiderer · 13/07/2012 17:05

Please trivia away, Freelance.

OP posts:
FreelanceMama · 13/07/2012 17:05
  1. According to Ainsley, what are all Gilbert and Sullivan musicals about?
  2. What does Lionel Tribbey think he should be drinking on his holiday?
  3. What's the euphemism the Bartlett's use for sex in the diary?
  4. How far away does President Bartlett think they are from all-out war in West Asia?
Fiderer · 13/07/2012 17:07
  1. duty
  2. little drinks with umbrellas
  3. barbecues
  4. one bad bottle of tequila?
OP posts:
FreelanceMama · 13/07/2012 17:08

On the green beans Q, Bartlett likes spaghetti, steak, lobster and ice cream. (thank you, well-thumbed copy of Unofficial and Unauthorized Guide to The West Wing, by the marvellous Keith Topping)

FreelanceMama · 13/07/2012 17:15

Oh, you da' man, Fiderer.

Ok.

  1. When the power cut happens during the State of the Union, (season 2) what does Josh ask for?
  1. Same episode, what cocktail is Ainsley drinking when dancing in a bathrobe?
  1. What's the title of the artwork comprising two bacon cheeseburgers constructed from Rottweiler dung?
tribpot · 13/07/2012 17:15

Mallory's surname is O'Brien. The bigger question really is why! (As, indeed, why Sam thought she was a child, esp given he had hit on her mother who is clearly too old to be the mother of a small child, lovely though she is!)

But the gift of the scene is still "this is bad on so many levels". A phrase applicable to my daily life!

Fiderer · 13/07/2012 17:21
  1. a screwdriver? Or the key and lightning?
  1. don't know what it's called but it had creme de cacao in it?

7 Grin

OP posts:
Fiderer · 13/07/2012 17:27

I thought you were joking about no 7 Grin Was it from the scene where the woman is listing all those odd arty things the NEA approved?

All I remember is the bit where she mentions a woman getting naked and covering herself in chocolate then singing. Toby responds "By and large I'm not wild about musicals" Grin

OP posts:
Acekicker · 13/07/2012 17:33

I think we might have done this one before in annoying questions but why was Andi using the left over embryos when her and Toby had split up...she seemed to have been off the scene for years when she got pregnant.

  1. - Hold the Mayo or something?

Surely Ainsley never drank, she just ate muffins and peaches Grin

tribpot · 13/07/2012 17:38

No, Ainsley was totally hammered, the president came to see her in the Trunk Pipe Distribution Venue and she screamed and threw her drink up in the air.

It had a touch of 'creme de cacao, my friend', but I also have no bloody idea what it was called!

The Andi/Toby thing was never explained but I think the rationale would have been something like they both still wanted to have children, they probably even still wanted to have children together, they just didn't want to be married (or rather I think Andi didn't want to be married to Toby).

Fiderer · 13/07/2012 17:44

Trunk Pipe Distribution Venue Grin

You know how crosswords and sudoku are supposed to stave off loss of mental faculties in old age? We could do that quite easily keeping these threads going till we're old(er)

It was a pink squirrel suzy
And she was

The sorkinisms was vg
Must get sports night.

misslaughalot · 13/07/2012 19:52

Oooh, I am so late to this thread, but have read it all this afternoon! Am just a tiny bit of a WWaholic, and have finally started watching it with my DP who is seeing it all for the first time after getting to know my obsession with it we're up to series 3 episode 5 'On the Day Before'. I'm with others who usually skip Isaac and Ishmael but we watched it last week and it wasn't as bad as I remember it. I guess it's just odd that it doesn't fit into the timeline anywhere and doesn't progress any of the storylines, but it was something that had to be done at the time.

The Sorkinisms video was fab, I'm not familiar with Sports Night, but watched the Newsroom this week and will be looking out for more familiar lines as the series progresses!

As much as I like Sam, my heart has always been with Josh. Does anybody here watch Parks and Recreation? It's a US sitcom (the funnies one IMHO) and they had a WW inspired episode last season that Bradley Whitford appeared in. I didn't recognise him at first, and nearly exploded with excitement at all the WW references in it. There's a clip here but the best stuff is in the rest of the episode if you get a chance to download see it!
