Also admiration and swooning. If you haven't watched all 7 seasons, read no further!

Two Cathedrals - have watched it several times and only just realised last night that Mrs Landingham was driving back to the WH as Bartlet wanted to tell her about the MS.

I love the scenes with young Mrs L and Jed.

Why "two" cathedrals though?

CaveMum, as one who devours the script details, I love that article. So, so clever. Makes you realise what an art script writing is, but also how good the actors are as they have to get into the exact mindset that he's asking for (not seen newsroom yet btw)

Tee2072 · 05/07/2012 09:21

I didn't think so Getting.

The Newsroom is proving that Sorkin doesn't know how to write any more. I'm calling it sledgehammer writing. Last ep was:-

BANG - foreshadow
BANG - more foreshadow
BANG BANG - even more foreshadow
BANG BANG BANG - result of all the foreshadowing.

Really really bad, gang.

Tee2072 · 05/07/2012 15:59

According to Wiki, we are never even told for sure if Sam wins or loses.

CaveMum · 05/07/2012 18:13

It is a good article, isn't it getting. Stephen Moffatt tweeted it this morning saying it would help him write the new episodes of Dr Who & Sherlock Grin

Tee2072 · 10/07/2012 20:05

I am at the end of Series 4...I don't want to watch...

OliviaLMumsnet · 10/07/2012 21:15

So is there a newsroom thread anywhere then, eh? eh/

Tee2072 · 11/07/2012 07:09

The third episode was much better, Olivia.

I don't think there's a thread since it's actually on in the UK, is it?

Fiderer · 11/07/2012 09:16

I couldn't hold out, sorry TinyPawz. Watched the first episode of The Newsroom last night. You did write you'd be away till the end of September which is decades in Sorkin terms.

That speech of Will's - as per the script article - was the best bit in it imo. And Emily Mortimer? Why? Oh why?

Is it now being shown in the UK? Then we could have a thread. The coughdownloadingstreamingcough aspect may sully MN's reputation Wink

OliviaLMumsnet · 11/07/2012 13:26

Had to start my own thread
Shock

Tee2072 · 11/07/2012 18:10

Is that allowed Olivia! Shock

FreelanceMama · 12/07/2012 00:21

A West Wing thread...Huzzah! Am I too late to join the party? Even if I tell you that our son was deliberately named after my favourite character?

Tee2072 · 12/07/2012 07:55

Only if you tell us your son's name.

If it's Sam, watch out for Olivia. She has a thing for Sam...

Fiderer · 12/07/2012 08:32

Sydney? Cliff? Lionel? Curtis?

Or, I know I know - 'Fiderer' Grin

As for being late to the party, I think there's been a WW thread on and off since it was first aired. It's the MN equivalent of getting to the end of Season 7, taking a break then starting again with Season 1 Grin

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 12/07/2012 08:46

Fid, are we watching the same show? Hmm

Grin
Fiderer · 12/07/2012 08:58

Dunno what I've been watching - I meant Stanley not Sydney Grin

There was a Cliff though, the one that stopped Leo's hearing. And Lionel with his cricket bat. And "the new Charlie" Curtis.

All fine names Grin

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 12/07/2012 09:02

It was the Sydney that threw me off. My brain sort of skidded to a halt trying to figure out who that was and couldn't parse the rest!

You seem to have confused WW with MASH. So easy to do. Hmm Grin

FreelanceMama · 12/07/2012 09:07

Tobias (Toby) :)
As it happens, 'O Holy Night' was the ep with Toby being born and that carol was one that my father used to sing.

Fiderer · 12/07/2012 09:27

That's a lovely name Smile

Yes Tee - I was indeed watching MASH at some daft insomniac hour this morning and Sydney was in the last episode I saw Grin

OP posts:
tribpot · 12/07/2012 09:32

Freelance, I have a Tobias (Toby) as well - strictly speaking I decided on the name before the show started. That's my story anyway :)

Sydney is a Sorkin-ish name, Annette Benning's character in the incomparable American President. Featuring of course Nina 'Time Shall Not Wither Her' Siemaszko who, whilst 2 years younger than I, has appeared to be roughly 30 for roughly 20 years Grin

Fiderer · 12/07/2012 10:05

That reminds me, I must watch The American President again, should help balance out The Newsroom. Saw it once years ago before I saw TWW and having googled her, didn't realise Ellie was in it.

Although seeing as I'm getting my TV psychiatrists muddled up perhaps I should wait a bit. There are a few WW actors in it, iirc. Bartlet and Nancy McNally too?

Still Grin that Tee was right and I had been watching MASH with the psychiatrist Sydney.

gettingalifenow · 12/07/2012 10:10

I watched the first epi of the newsroom last night and I'm prepared to give it a go!

Didn't like the simpering assistant character, but she may improve. Not sure about Emily Mortimer , but am going to stick with it

tribpot · 12/07/2012 10:11

Yes, Martin Sheen plays the Leo character, although there is also a character called Leo in the film, played by Frasier's dad. Nancy McNally plays the CJ character but is called Robyn.

Fiderer · 12/07/2012 10:14

tribpot Perhaps I'll wait a bit then - watching 'Josh' and 'Joe Quincy' in Studio 60 fried my brain for a while as I'd just finished TWW (again)

Have you seen The Newsroom?

OP posts:
tribpot · 12/07/2012 10:24

No, Fiderer, I missed it when it was on on Tuesday (repeated Sunday) and it's not available on Sky Go yet.

Don't forget Studio 60 also had Felicity Huffman (who did a star turn in a single ep of TWW) as herself, Allison Janney as herself, Danny as Cal .. garrggghh

The American Pres is worth a watch because of some of the hilarious situations they get into when tackling the President's romantic life. Annette Benning having to pretend to Michael J Fox she's been discussing fossil fuel numbers at 4 o'clock in the morning being a particular highlight.

tribpot · 13/07/2012 07:05

Newsroom is up on Sky Go!
