I'm going to have to ring my Mum and ask her whether she got paid into her bank account in the 70's. Didn't people just get weekly wage packets, or get cheques they then had to get cashed? Would forensics have been sophistacted enough to be capable of getting fingerprints from skin? They have problems with that on CSI now!

Too much information in my head comes from the TV, I would doubt the accuracy of about 90% of what I think I know!

The show is great though, even glossing over historical accuracy (which I'm to young to have any ideas on)

Davros · 10/01/2006 20:25

I was 13 in 1973 too
The DD who wants a typewriter needs a PETITE typewriter, remember those?
I think there's 8 or 9 episodes, I was surprised and delighted!! Doesn't anyone else on MN buy the Radio Times? Its my fave mag and always has articles and interviews on good new progs inc this one.

Blandmum · 10/01/2006 20:28

I was 11 in '73. This is a real trip down memory lane!

Trim phones. Sigh. I thought we were so sophisticated when we got one.

No surely, white-collar (executive) type wages were paid by cheque at least.

I know that some blue-collar staff were still paid cash in the mid 80's (My job involved payroll support), but I would have thought public sector (like police personnel) had gone over to a paper based system before that.

I wish my dad were still alive, he and I could have discussed that for ages.
