I agree totally anon. Andrea had a lot of potential to be a great female character. I even thought she would be the potential love interest for Rick after he finds out what has been going on between Lori and Shane. Now all she does is whinge and moan, and I know she has recently lost her sister etc but she still get's on my nerves in that respect.

wintera · 16/11/2011 21:03

Have just read a synopsis of walking dead characters from the comic books and apparently a proper kick ass female character appears at a later stage. Her name is Michonne or something like that.

Melty · 16/11/2011 22:00

Yes she is kick ass in the book. A sword wielding black lady. Might be a good thing, as poor old T-dog isnt getting much action.

anonacfr · 16/11/2011 22:03

I did too! She had great chemistry with Egg.
To be fair the reason she moans and whines is because the guys treat her like a toddler. She was perfectly fine when traipsing through the woods with Daryl because he actually talked to her like she was a grownup.

Melty · 16/11/2011 22:23

Thats the thing, Daryl talks to everyone like they are a grownup. He really is one of the most well written characters. He started off as someone no one would like really, but has turned into someone you need to have around. How is it, that the writers can write him so well, and yet fail so bady with the ladies? I wonder is it because he is not in the novels? Therefore no preconcieved ideas.
I also have read and seen an interview with Norman saying that he works with the writers on the character. Bet that has a lot to do with it.

somewherewest · 17/11/2011 12:18

Melty I think you're right. I get the impression that Daryl was just intended to be a stereotypical redneck until Reedus got his hands on the part and created a very complex, engaging character. He's definitely the best actor on the show. And whoever places Lori is definitely the worst.

susiedaisy · 18/11/2011 15:43

have just ordered World War Z on my kindle and only around 6 hours to go until another episode of TWD, today is a good day!!!! Grin

countessbabycham · 18/11/2011 18:05

Have to report to all that I gave up on reading "Monster Nation".Not my cup of tea.

The zombie bits were good but there was a more sci fi aspect also which didn't do it for me.

Whereas zombies are completely believable (to me at least) I lose interest if it deviates as I find sci fi a bit of a yawn.

Now I have nothing to satisfy my hunger until Episode 6......

fantus · 18/11/2011 19:00

I know I am late to this thread but I have been lurking for a while although I admit I haven't read all 24 pages Grin

I do love a good zombie film and have been really enjoying this series although I didn't really get into until the second series - only because I missed most of the first not because I didn't enjoy it.

With regards to books, has anyone read the Carrie Ryan trilogy? It is aimed at young adults (I think) but I really got into them and coulnd't wait to read them all. The first is called the Forest of Hands and Teeth here

MartyrStewart · 18/11/2011 19:03

I will bid you all goodbye for the weekend as I won't watch the next episode until Sunday Grin

Melty · 18/11/2011 19:08

OhhOhhOhhh.
I just read the complete outline for Ep 6 an Ep 7 on the Spoiler Thread on TWOP.
Wish I didnt now,- the spoilers on there are not normally so specific.

Pants.

countessbabycham · 18/11/2011 19:18

Hi fantus. Is there a lot of descriptive gore in that book?

Melty you only spoil it for yourself, you know.......(well,that's what Mum told me when I found all my Christmas pressies on a "hunt") Thanks for the warning!

fantus · 18/11/2011 19:28

I don't know if I would call it particularly gorey, more atmospheric and very tense. That is maybe due to the age group it is aimed at although the third book was very dark and there is a definate feeling of threat that pervades all three.

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of flesh ripping going on, I just can't really remember how descriptive it is!

I also thought the books put a different slant on the typical zombie story, but I have to be honest I haven't read that many others, just mainly watched the films.

Melty · 18/11/2011 19:28

I know, I am very cross with myself.
I normally like little tasters and little teasers, but I wasn't expecting to get a whole episode breakdown - mind you, I don't know what else I would expect to find on a spoiler thread.
Prat.

susiedaisy · 18/11/2011 20:14

Oh meltySad

JKSLtd · 18/11/2011 21:16

I will be doing my best to join Martyr as I won't be able to watch it until Monday.

Trying to resist all spoilers....

uniCorny · 18/11/2011 21:38

never mind Melty...you can concentrate on Daryl now.

susiedaisy · 18/11/2011 22:57

Loved this weeks episode and the trailer for next week looks brill! But Andrea really let the side down!

anonacfr · 18/11/2011 23:10

Concentrate on Daryl? What does it mean? Stop taunting me!!!
Speaking of taunting, one episode left and then nothing till February. How are we all going to cope?
I suggest a Zombie book club. Or maybe fanfiction.

uniCorny · 19/11/2011 08:27

eh? Only one episode left! Shock

wintera · 19/11/2011 08:31

Afraid so unicorny. Fx are showing it in line with the US so you get so many episodes and then a break mid season. Personally I would rather wait a bit longer and get all the episodes together myself but there you go.

uniCorny · 19/11/2011 08:32

me too - that's just mean

wintera · 19/11/2011 08:43

Mind you, saying that, we seem to have been waiting bloody ages for true blood season four apparently it is starting in Jan 12 now finally. Would love it if they could do a walking dead and true blood double bill at some point. That would be my ideal night's viewing sorted!

susiedaisy · 19/11/2011 15:31

Zombie book club sounds goodSmile

Melty · 19/11/2011 16:54

Found this on the AV club:
Comments after review of Ep 4

The Walking Dead Mortality Threat Index

Levels: Safe > Moderate > Substantial > Severe > Critical

Rick: Safe - Heroes don't die (in mid-season). Heroes suffer.

Lori: Substantial - Rick or Shane failing to adequately wrap it up should earn Lori a nine month stay of execution. But despite everything, she Will still nip off in the middle of the night to piss in a field on the edge of a zombie forest. No change.

Shane: Substantial - A respite from imminent danger earns ol' Shane a downgrade. Let's be clear though: He's a heel, feels no guilt over throwing one of his team to a pack of zombies and is practically begging for a confrontation with Rick that he has to lose. Practicality determines he must survive. The law of screenwriter morality says otherwise.

Daryl: Moderate - Like a version of Shane but with loyalty and a spirit that hasn't been killed stone dead; not that he would express it that way.

Andrea: Substantial - Emotional issues veer wildly between does-what-needs-to-be-done ruthlessness and suicidal recklessness. Holding steady at Substantial; at least she can maintain a weapon now.

Carl: Safe - For now.

Dale: Moderate - Still the team's steadiest head. Watch for fluctuations in competence when out on the road.

Carol: Severe - Fairly safe so long as she stays in the RV. My personal feeling that she should jump down a well shouldn't have anything to do with it, but fuck it.

Maggie: Substantial - Will sex you in an abandoned zombie town just on the assumption that the area is clear of immediate danger. Now that her relationship with Glenn has been consummated, it's reasonable to suppose that she's inching closer to death every minute - for the evulz.

Glenn: Safe - Screams (and copulates) like a girl, but gets the job done even in the face of zombie biting. Will go far, this one.

Patricia: Severe - Only a matter of time.

Herschel: Moderate - Came into conflict with Rick this episode - which I believe is the leading cause of death outside of zombie attacks. Happily they managed to halfway work it out. What's he got in the barn, though? Im guessing whatever it is, it'll probably kill him. Or Patricia.

T-Dog: Substantial - Still almost totally worthless, though did display some impressive ruthlessness in the despatch of Well Zombie that should stand him in good stead in situations to come. Earned a downgrade.

Sophia: Substantial - The fact they're still carrying on with this plot shows that Sophia will return. Why, I don't know, but we can be sure she won't kick it. Yet.
