I think Glenn is the get in and get out quick man, so he gets picked for any of that sort of task, don't quite know why the being pizza delivery man bit gets mentioned every so often, no different to be a postman really Confused

Eggrules · 15/11/2011 10:16

Wouldn't zombified dead uncle's bottom half infect the rest of the water supply in the wells?

susiedaisy · 15/11/2011 10:20

Yeah I reckon so, unless one well is further up the water supply and the zombie one is down iyswim

somewherewest · 15/11/2011 13:44

I also really hate the way the women are being written, although traditional gender roles would probably reassert themselves pretty quickly if civilisation ever did collapse. The fact that men are usually physically stronger and that women have to go through menstruation / pregnancy / breastfeeding would really start to matter again. Daryl is a good symbol of how a collapse would invert values. As an uneducated, emotionally scarred redneck he probably lived a pretty marginal life before the apocalyse, but now he's come into his own and has found an outlet for his skills (and is developing emotionally too).

redlac · 15/11/2011 13:47

My DH watches this but I really can't get into it - the last couple of episode all the woman have done is cry! Surely there should be scope for non greetin' non suicidal, non cheatin women in this. DH says the graphic novels are MUCH better. Plus Egg will always be Egg to me and I can't get my head round his accent :)

somewherewest · 15/11/2011 13:58

PS I'm 38 weeks pregnant and having just watched Daryl rip his last arrow out of his own body to take down a zombie in episode five I've decided that he is 100% my labour role model. If that guy was a woman he'd probably give birth alone in two minutes in a wood somewhere before chewing through the umbilical cord with his own teeth while simultaneously fending off a hoard of zombies.

notyummy · 15/11/2011 14:30

Good point Somewhere!

LtEveDallas · 15/11/2011 15:00

Re the Hanging Zombie, I thought that he was bitten, so was infected but hanged himself before he turned ("Got bit, world turned to shit"). Then didn't Daryl say something about how they've "still gotta eat" so I thought he had eaten his own legs when hanging.

and yes, the women are really pissing me off too.

Eggrules · 15/11/2011 17:30

Unable to watch E5 until after the weekend. I'm going to try to stay away until after that...

EmmaRoyd · 15/11/2011 17:59

I've only just caught up.. I have a question for you zombie experts, can zombies eat animals? I thought in one of the early episodes I saw them eating a horse? I was thinking that being a farm they might have used a chicken or something as live bait instead of Glenn!

Actually I would have thought they should have just shot the zombie in the well, i know they said blowing his brains out would contaminate the water but surely nobody was going to drink the water from that well after it had had a zombie rotting in it!??

I agree Lori going out on her own in the dark to do a preg test was ridiculous, why not just go to the toilet? and what was the knife for?

another thing that showed it's was written by men was the instantaneous result of the preg test, if she has the baby the birth scene is going to be sooo unrealistic.

countessbabycham · 15/11/2011 18:05

My DH says that,in the event of the zombie apocalypse, women and children are a liability and he would only look after me and the kids if I bloody well did what he told me!!!

Looks like I've got me a real New Age Man......

wintera · 15/11/2011 18:12

I don't find Lori as annoying as some of you do. The woman that pisses me off the most is Andrea. Just can't be doing with her at all. And why has she got such a hard on for guns? Every time she opens her gob it's to moan and bitch about the guns. Seriously, change the record woman. I actually agreed with Lori when she said that they all look to Rick for answers and then blame him when things go wrong. I thought she made a good point. On another note how ridiculous did Shane look in last weeks episode? When he was wearing Otis's clothes he looked like cleetus from the Simpsons! Does anyone else think we might see Otis in zombie form? Would be quite poetic if he took a chunk out of Shane too!

wintera · 15/11/2011 18:16

I don't have a problem with the preg test result coming up so quickly. In my experience if its positive it does come up positive straight away.

countessbabycham · 15/11/2011 18:21

Seriously though - I would think the men would do well to weapons train the women and for everyone to learn tracking skills from Daryl ( I would obviously keep Andrea away from the guns Wink). It's all very lovely sitting around doing the washing, but, come on ...Can't they just pick up some new clothes from the town the apocalypse forgot???

I'm still amazed that when Sophia first disappeared they gave up looking because it was dark!Zombies would be similarly disadvantaged in the dark so I'm not sure the dangers would be greatly increased - but I can see the attraction of a Horlicks rather than looking for a lost little girl.

I wonder if using a chicken as bait in the well would really be so good.A chicken is valuable for eggs and to eat themselves if necessary.Glenn is just another mouth to feed, and I think he may be causing problems being so shag - happy.

anonacfr · 15/11/2011 18:58

What I want to know is considering the women spend their life doing the bloody laundry, why is everyone wearing sweaty dirty clothes all the time???

StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2011 19:01

yes i agree, have had a pg test come up straigh away
Completely agree that they would be better off figuring out who knows anything about guns and training the rest! Why would you keep andrea away from guns?

Candid · 15/11/2011 19:19

Thanks for the zombie lessons.

What I don't understand is why that old vet guy said thay all had to leave?
If you were in that situatuation, wouldn't you be over the moon that you came across some actual living people??

I agree with all the views on the women. It's like they know their place Hmm

uniCorny · 15/11/2011 19:23

Andrea pisses me off with her off the shoulder tops.

wintera · 15/11/2011 19:29

Candid - I think Hershel wants them to leave because he is worried about them discovering what is in the barn.

uniCorny · 15/11/2011 19:38

I think he's worried that they'll eat all the white sliced bread.

anonacfr · 15/11/2011 19:41

Hilarious post on why Herschel wants them to leave. It's written after ep 5 so is a bit spoilerish. Did I mention I love Twop? Grin

*How gracious would anyone be when this group of incompetant boobs shows up on your lawn?

I'd be suspicious too, if they said they'd leave after finding a missing girl (who I've never actually seen), and then goes about it in the most half-assed way possible, spending entire days plucking at a guitar or hanging dry clothes on a clothesline. Or giving up after an hour. "Oh, we haven't found her yet. It must be getting late, the sun is directly over head. Let's go get a sandwich. Hey Hershel! Make a sandwich!"

Oh, they also stole a horse and lost that in the woods too. Thanks for that.

Then some grubby dude stabs himself with an arrow and gets shot by his own group. Sure, plop right down on my bed. I've got all day tomorrow to wash that filth out of my dwindling sheet supply. Good thing we have a clean well. Oh, wait.

They're a bigger menace than an entire world of living dead! *

somewherewest · 16/11/2011 09:52

StealthPolarBear Episode Five demonstrates exactly why you would keep Andrea away from guns Grin. Seriously, it annoyed me that the only one of the wimminz who has showed any interest in anything other than crying and doing the laundry goes on to mess up so badly.

wintera · 16/11/2011 17:37

Yeah have heard about what happens. People on here are going to be well pissed off! Not seen it myself but I have heard that it's a good job she is a lousy shot!

somewherewest · 16/11/2011 17:56

I actually thought she wasn't a bad shot for a complete amateur shooting over a distance. She at least winged her target. It was the decision to shoot that was majorly stupid.

anonacfr · 16/11/2011 19:35

That's because.... she's a woman!

To illustrate the writers' (and their protagonists') sexism- Carl, a child is allowed to wander in the woods because he's a boy but grown women aren't allowed to carry guns.
Then again they give a gun to Andrea and look what happens. Angry

Last season Carol bashed her husband's head in and carried grenades in her rucksack. Andrea fished and stood up to bullies and went on rescue operations with the guys.
This season all the women have done is cook and clean. It's getting stupid.
Surely they would just go to a store and help themselves to clothes. Then they would use whoever was fit in the group to gather woods, supplies etc.
