Strictly Come Dancing 2011

As all the other threads seem to have died off I thought I'd start a new one in anticipation of this Friday's first live show.

I have to say I'm not too bothered about the Celebs this year, but then again I'm more interested in watching the professionals anyway!

The line up for each of the two shows has been announced (from BBC website):

On Friday 30th September the couples performing for the first time on live television will be:

?Alex
?Anita
?Audley
?Dan
?Lulu
?Robbie
?Russell

Then on Saturday 1st October the couples performing for the first time together will be:

?Chelsee
?Edwina
?Harry
?Holly
?Jason
?Nancy
?Rory

Please note the running order has yet to be confirmed. The celebrities have been listed above in alphabetical order.

They will dance either a Waltz or a Cha Cha Cha, but I'm not 100% sure who is doing what.

My overriding thought in the run up for the series so far has been "I hope the wardrobe department come up with some decent foundations for poor Chelsee!"
That outfit they've put her in for the promo shots makes her boobs look humungous Shock

Anyone else care to share their thoughts in advance?

it should, shouldn't it? it's absolutely their most successful segment i think. would love to see karen as a judge.

Dump the daft 'games' segments ( we aren't 5 y.o.) and up-do the technical bits of the dancing. simo. strictlyinmyopinion....

I am liking the sound of Karen's choreography corner (sounds so much better than it reads!) so I will give it a go.

I have a not-entirely-irrational dislike of CW so that is what's put me off in the past but I like Zoe :)

Love love love Ian Waite and his Wednesday Warm-Up as well (my Gay Best Friend in my dreams), but why oh why did they dump him from the main show? He's so lovely and such a great teacher.

And they have such a lack of tall men now that Ian and Matthew have been got rid of. Holly is too tall for Artem and the new guy is on the short side as well.

Rory did a v funny impression of Jason on ITT - talking about his kids being able to hold their heads high at school which everyone in the studio seemed to enjoy.

extremely, yes, I thought Rory's little impression of Jason was rather barbed too! I'm sure when he came out with it at the weekend there was a bit of subtle eye-rolling behind him as well. What a twunt.

Prolesworth, I'm not sure actually, but thought Ian was dumped as the only people I know for sure left of their own accord were Lilia and Darren, because they didn't like the new directions the show was going in.

And yes to the lack of tall male pro dancers - wtf is that about? Is Brendan tall?

I think Brendan is passably tall but shorter than Ian and Matthew. Hadn't really thought about that but yes, Artem isn't hugely tall and the new guy is a shortarse compact and bijou isn't he? And lovely Vincent, of course.

Is James a reasonable height?

I would be surprised if Ian left of his own accord - he said yesterday that the dancing he did with Zoe in ITT was the only chance he got to dance nowadays. Am surprised that Lilia and Darren chose to leave - they always seemed to really love the whole experience and it's not as if there is anything else in the dance world to really compete with Strictly.

Another Jason moment from ITT - the celebs were being filmed having their make-up applied. Jason asks who is Holly Valance and what she done. She says she was in his show - 20 years after he was on it. Much hilarity from everyone else and a frozen smile from Jason that failed to reach his eyes.

No I think James Jordan is short as well, although not as short as Vincent. Brendan and Anton are the tallest I think?

Agree that Brendan one of the taller ones but as you say LadyClarice smaller than Ian and Matthew. And of course Brendan's height wasted on Lulu in a very strange pairing. There's also a bit of a shortage of tall female pros. Natalie was really the only choice for Audley.

That Jason/Holly moment was hilarious. She is not without humour, is she?

Wonder if lots of male dancers are a bit short ...?

i thought the jason/holly moment was a joke, no way would he not know who she was, or be unpro enough to ask her in front of cameras anyway.

She's Anton's partner. And Anton is their comedy dancer who they put with the hopeless older woman figure.

I like Erin actually, I like the fact that she's not really glam or sexed up and is just a very lovely ballroom dancer. I've never understood why she dances with Anton as he is such a twat

Lady - Lilya and Darren were dumped from the show. I was aghast and twirled my pearls at the news, as Lilya was my favourite. Stalking Looking up references to her, she talked of being dumped as the 'show needed to move on' (though her and Darren were the best adverts for the thing), and crying for an hour after meeting with SCD execs. The They have her lovely blood on their hands.

Pan, that's ghastly. Lilia was lovely and a wonderful teacher (so sweet with the hopeless Peter Scudamore). I really thought I'd read that they left basically in protest, but must have read the 'spun' version. Shock

I like Erin too. I think she's a beautiful dancer and, again, an excellent teacher. Much better than Anton 'It's all about me getting a laugh' du Boak.

Yes, she wrote that her and Darren turned up for the usual appt. in August to go over the likely candidates and what the format would be. To be told they were out. Lilya agreed with Darren doing some pros dancing routines.
Well that's her version. And I believe her. 'Cause she's my favourite. Did I mention that?

I think it was a slightly barbed joke from Jason which invited a response and he was totally incapable of coming back with any reply to Holly's comment.

I also like the fact that Erin is just a good dancer and a great teacher. She also has some personality and can be very funny. Cannot understand why they have kept on Aliona.

Does everyone know that Anton's real name is Tony Beak?

Erin was hilarious on ITT last year with the interactive screen thing that they could draw on with glittery 'pens'. She used to get so into it and practically have to have it taken off her at the end!

Aliona is rubbish ? a personality vacuum, not a great teacher, and very foolish not to listen to the judges.

Don't know about all the male dancers, but from what I can find:

Brendan is 6ft
I'm sure I read that Anton was about 6ft1
James is 5ft11
Vincent is 5ft7

BTW, lay off with the Du Beke haters! [states sternly and wags finger]
