As all the other threads seem to have died off I thought I'd start a new one in anticipation of this Friday's first live show.

I have to say I'm not too bothered about the Celebs this year, but then again I'm more interested in watching the professionals anyway!

The line up for each of the two shows has been announced (from BBC website):

On Friday 30th September the couples performing for the first time on live television will be:

?Alex
?Anita
?Audley
?Dan
?Lulu
?Robbie
?Russell

Then on Saturday 1st October the couples performing for the first time together will be:

?Chelsee
?Edwina
?Harry
?Holly
?Jason
?Nancy
?Rory

Please note the running order has yet to be confirmed. The celebrities have been listed above in alphabetical order.

They will dance either a Waltz or a Cha Cha Cha, but I'm not 100% sure who is doing what.

My overriding thought in the run up for the series so far has been "I hope the wardrobe department come up with some decent foundations for poor Chelsee!"
That outfit they've put her in for the promo shots makes her boobs look humungous Shock

Anyone else care to share their thoughts in advance?

Only just watched this - wow what about Jason?! Really wasn't expecting that. I usually find him incredibly dull but am warming to him now - good onya Jase as Craig said - or something. I absolutely love Christina - she deserves to have a decent shot this year after the numpties she's been lumbered with since she started.
I felt pleased for Chelsea - thought she kept her dignity in spite of Tess's patronising 'you're posh aren't yer?'
And I can see myself being moved to tears by Anita - just like when she was Angie Watts. Blush
This series is going to be fab, in spite of Bruce.

Petisa · 01/10/2011 23:57

Good on Chelsea, she really irritated me at the start but I'm warming to her - she looked so nervous when the judges were awarding the points!

Jason was great, I know nothing of dancing, but he seemed to dance lots of proper steps and really shake it instead of just sort of standing there as some male celebs do.

Edwina's dance looked quite basic but at least it looked like she did proper dance steps and danced them properly which is more than can be said for some. Good on her, warming to her too!

Anyway, my ramblings probably sound thick as I know nothing of ballroom dancing, but I love watching it! Blush

Petisa · 02/10/2011 00:01

Oops it's Chelsee, silly me! Grin

And I was Shock at Rory, he can dance!

Loved Harry's dance, couldn't take my eyes off them!

Is it the professional dancer who makes up the choreography? If so, was it Anton's fault then that their dance involved so much sofa faffing and not enough dancing?

CaveMum · 02/10/2011 08:19

Yes the pros will do their own choreography for the 10 main ballroom/Latin dances, but will have outside help for things like salsa, charleston and Argentine Tango (not Flavia and Vibcent obv). I suspect Anton choreographed all the faffing about at the start because he knew it would be a [cue Craig impression] disaaaaster as soon as she got on her feet Wink

[won't have anything bad said about Anton's dancing skills] Grin

Really enjoyed last night's ep - albeit we didn't get the LOL of Russell on Friday. Anyone else think that with the few notable exceptions (lulu, eggwina, nancy i'm looking at you) this is quite a strong year?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 02/10/2011 12:24

I think Nancy's a bit of a weirdo but I felt for her during Featherboagate. When will the costume department learn?

Harry is boringly good. No room for a journey there.
Holly competent but no personality in evidence.
Russell actually did some cha cha steps and I'm a bit aggrieved that the judges didn't mention them.
Aries, I also surprised myself by slightly fancying Bremner! Grin Blush It hopefully probably won't last.
Wish Dan would stop going on about 'going to the pub with the lads' etc. Trying a bit hard to be manly IMO. Get over yourself, love; you'll have to put an open-necked shirt on and get a fake tan some time.
Did anyone spot Brendan falling off the top step in Tess's area? Grin

vmcd28 · 02/10/2011 14:45

Why did they all speak to Chelsee like she was a 2yo? Very weird, and uncomfortable to watch.

CaveMum · 02/10/2011 14:54

I think Brendan had been copping a peak at Chelsey bouncing running up the stairs Grin

Grin CaveMum.

LetUsPrey · 02/10/2011 17:27

Caught up with it earlier today:
Harry - good. Not sure how much he'll progress because of Aliona.
Rory - liked his waltz. Not sure what the latin will bring.
Alex - surprised me because I thought she'd be a lot more self conscious. Agreed with James' comments to Craig.
Chelsee - thought she was lovely and ver sweet. Agree that some judges were a bit patronising.
Edwina - good attitude.
Nancy - I don't know whether she just assumes she'll be great or what but that feather boa was a disaster. Rest of the dance wasn't much better.
Jason - wow! I am a little bit in love with him after that cha cha. I'm so happy for Kristina and hope he gets better and better.

vmcd28 · 02/10/2011 17:33

letusprey, get behind me in the Jason queue! Angry

LetUsPrey · 02/10/2011 17:40

It's foxtrot and salsa next week. Wonder if it'll be the usual swap of styles?

vmcd28 - I think I'm waaaaayyyy down the queue for Jason!

CaveMum · 02/10/2011 19:03

I think everyone that danced waltz this week does salsa next week. That way everyone does a Latin and a Ballroom before voting is allowed.

I hope they don't start mixing styles too much for a while - last year they had too many different styles happening each week and it was impossible to compare people. They have enough dance styles that they can last about 6 weeks with 1 ballroom and 1 latin before they need to start mixing it up.

OP posts:
bebeballroom · 02/10/2011 19:12

Tags onto the back of the queue for Jason! Wink

I agree about finding it confusing when they mix up the styles too much. Also IMO doesn't really make it fair in the very early days as it's so hard to judge/compare.

LetUsPrey · 02/10/2011 19:26

So foxtrot should be: Holly, Lulu, Robbie, Russell, Harry, Alex, Edwina and Jason.

Salsa: Dan, Audley, Anita, Rory, Chelsee and Nancy.

It's not half and half is it?

I need to get a life don't I?

NorfolkNChance · 02/10/2011 19:53

Being a huge WR fan I am hoping Chelsee will do well, she seems sweet but wtf is with the Ma Duggar bows in her hair?!

RedBlanket · 02/10/2011 20:40

I've been in the queue since the mullet and Angry Anderson Grin

Jason to win!

Skillbo · 02/10/2011 21:22

Jason was just ace - and I have no qualms about shoving my way to the front of that queue (I heart him soooooooo much and have done for too long to remember!)

Sooo - anyway:

Chelsee - sorry, don't like her and when they showed clips of her in Waterloo Road felt myself thinking it was a shame she hadn't left herself looking as she did there - so pretty! That's a really bitchy thing to say though so on her dancing, I thought she did ok, not great but ok!

Edwina - not a massive fan actually but she came across well and does have some sort of movement going for her?

Harry - always hardest to go first (hence why I thought Holly was so good!) but think he shows promise.. was surprised at how old he was, for some reason I though he wouldn't have aged since McFlys heyday (no idea why!)

Jason - goes without saying, by far the best and boy - was he enjoying himself... I would love it regardless and think he has got weeks and weeks ahead of him just because he's Jason BUT - he really threw himself into it and was loving it. I know he's been on ITT quite a bit saying how much he loves it so wasn't surprised he was so up for it... he did blow his wife a big, cheesy kiss on his way to Tess' area so don't think there is any chance of infidelity... and isn't Kristina still with Joe Calzaghe??

Nancy - just dreadful.. for a bit of context (read this as from the daily rags!) apparently she refuses to rehearse for more than two hours a day, demands higher heels than keep her stable and has driven Anton to the end of his tether. I really can't see her making it past next week, tbh! My pick to go - unless people keep her in for a joke but she's not even likeable which, for all her sins, Ann did come across that way (although personally despised her and wanted her gone from week 1!!!)

Rory - not bad at all actually and think he just needs to relax a bit more... nice for Erin to have a bit of a goer for a change as well!

Alex - not bad and I do like James (a lot) so have hope although she wasn't as good as I thought she'd be for some reason?

So - I loved the two aussies and am very very excited about next week. Our telly is up the duff so am reliant on MIL but she's just as keen and doesn't mind watching it twice so think we'll be making a regular visit on a Sunday for some food and bit of dancing!

TheDailyWail · 03/10/2011 03:55

Skillbo, I have heard that Nancy is very nice in training but Lulu is a horror. (It's good to have insider info!)

Biscuitsandtea · 03/10/2011 16:05

Oooh, apparently Holly has suggested on Twitter she's doing the salsa this week? But she Cha Cha'd on Saturday so can't be a straight swap for Latin / ballroom?

Hmmmmm Hmm

HappyAsIAm · 03/10/2011 16:17

Jason has been in Joseph, Rocky Horror and Priscilla. And of course, he's had a pop and presenting (radio) career. So he should have a sense of performance about him. I am really looking forward to see how he progresses - last year, Matt started very strongly, with a top first score, but it ended up being Kara who won it and I think that may be partly because she went on more of a 'journey' (incidentally she only got 30 in the first week compared to Jason's 32). And of course, there was the romance with Artem, and actually, I think Aliona's choreography let Matt down towards the end, buy hey.

CaveMum · 03/10/2011 18:02

I'm certainly not a fan of Aliona. Her choreography is too "me, me, me" when it should be about showing off her partner to the best of his ability. A case in point: those walking splits that she seems to shoehorn into almost EVERY routine!

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 03/10/2011 18:18

Second that Cavemum (in my completely unqualified opinion). DH and I said it from her first series - I think she's toned it down a bit but she's still very 'me me me'.

CristinadellaPizza · 03/10/2011 18:26

Aliona is nowhere near as Anton whose ego is nearly as big as Nancy's pouts

gailforce1 · 03/10/2011 18:34
