I am yet to watch Downton Abbey.

I love Cranford, Lark Rise, all BBC period dramas- so is it my type of programme?

harrietthespook · 25/09/2011 21:24

That maid who probably will catch Lord G's eye won't know Thomas' 'back story' will she. Another intersting potential sideline... Wink

GET ONE here, maties.

harrietthespook · 25/09/2011 21:26

I mean GET On

Go MAGGIE

harrietthespook · 25/09/2011 21:43

Didn't have to wait long for Swire's issues to come to the fore...hint

missmogwi · 25/09/2011 21:45

Uh oh Edith you home wrecker Grin

Thomas is opening his heart a bit here- I predict he will be disappointed and grow even more hard and cruel.

LeBOF · 25/09/2011 21:48

Oh my dear god! I didn't think it would happen like that!! Shock

I can't believe it!

missmogwi · 25/09/2011 21:49

Was that the blind soldier? curse children for mithering me

OP posts:
hiccymapops · 25/09/2011 21:51

Is it me, or have they all had personality transplants. Thomas, Mary and Mrs O'Brien being nice! Does war really bring out the best in people?

LeBOF · 25/09/2011 21:51

Yes Sad

missmogwi · 25/09/2011 21:53

Ugh jog on Mosley. Keep your beak out.

begonyabampot · 25/09/2011 22:47

is it just me that thought it was a bit disjointed and clanky? I love DA but husband and I just kept laughing at loud, even at the serious moments - all felt a bit spoofy - was just waiting for Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders to come waltzing in.

LeBOF · 25/09/2011 22:54

Aww, I actually liked Edith for the first time tonight- really enjoyed it.

diddl · 26/09/2011 07:35

"Where the hell is DIDDL?"

Ooh hello-just saw someone shouting me my name.

Haven´t watched yet as had to tape it on +1

Just seen the post above-someone apart from me liked Edith-what´s going on?

Summerbird73 · 26/09/2011 09:26

i felt a bit sorry for home-wrecker Edith too Hmm

and oh.my.god was Thomas looking hot or what? i dont like the guy usually - but with those regimentals..

i now think that William wont die, and Daisy will have to marry him out of guilt (nice one Mrs Patmore!) and will be stuck with him for ever.

i am also quite liking O'Brien's softer side with the new valet... what is happening to me!

SoupDragon · 26/09/2011 09:32

I thought Thomas looked slimy even in uniform.

Edith was lovely until the point where're she snogged the farmer.

what does Newspaper Man have on Lavinia?

LeBOF · 26/09/2011 10:11

I thought that farmer woman was the bloke's sister, not his wife? I didn't think Edith would be snogging him otherwise.

IShallWearMidnight · 26/09/2011 10:12

no it's his wife, he was the one Mrs Crawley brought back from the almost dead against the Dowagers wishes last series.

VelvetSnow · 26/09/2011 10:16

well shame on Edith! If I were 'the wife' I'd be doing more than sending a letter saying we no longer require your services!

What's the story with Mr Lang...

harrietthespook · 26/09/2011 10:37

Oh that is that farmer that was brought back from the dead isn't it?!

I can't believe early on in episode 2 we've already got hints of Lavinia's ishooos.

Diddl - watch and then return to us with your views. Edith's character's surely taken a turn though. Me big fan now.

yes it did all feel 'carry on' though. shame.

LeBOF · 26/09/2011 10:37

Yes, she'd have been chased off my farm with a pitchfork!

The farmer had no business flirting with her in the first place.

Summerbird73 · 26/09/2011 10:59

of cooouuurrrse it is that farmer from the first series. i thought Edith looked less 'pinched' and not so 'sucking a lemon' she seemed softer somewhat. although i would have sent her packing with a 'ho' up her bum if she snogged DH Hmm

i think it is 'just' shell shock with Mr Lang. he is very nervy and jumpy, i think they are playing on the fact that a lot of people in that day didnt know much about shell shock, other than maybe Lord Grantham (and O'Brien of course - who was rather nice last night Hmm )

i see Bates is back next week, Joanne Froggatt has had her hair done and everyfink.

mrszimmerman · 26/09/2011 11:07

what a very entertaining pile of s*e Downton is!
Terrible pacing, the whole thing was obv written and filmed in a desperate hysterical rush.
And that AVIVA advertising, what a depressing campaign!

It's so cliche ridden and all the terrible, hero/coward lurching from one to the other! And Lord Wotsit huffing about in his regimentals coz he can't go to the front with the oiks and deserters!

And Lady Mary, honestly all the Blinking in the world ain't gonna make her a romantic lead! When it's the nurse who is the goddess of the show, I mean she's adorable. And going up to see Carter when she clearly wanted a lot more than advice, Turkmurdering Hussy.
And that old newspaper man's a proper bad un.

diddl · 26/09/2011 11:13

So now that both Mary & Edith are "ruined"-it has to be Sybil for Matthew?

Hoorah!
