I get disks from "Lovefilm", and I usually watch them once, maybe watch a bit of the commentary or extras, then send it back to get the next one.

But I got the first episode of "Hornblower" starring Ioan Gruffudd and it's utterly obsessed me! Last couple of days, I have watched it morning noon and night. I could probably give a blow by blow account of every scene and have memorised some of the dialogue. Can't say I understand all the Naval jargon but that's the next thing on the list to do, that and read the entire works of C S Forester who wrote those books. And I want to go back to Dundee where there's a ship from that era and you can wander round it. I want to do that and half shut my eyes and pretend I'm on the ship in the film.

Today I had to get the children to stage an intervention and MAKE me seal up the "Lovefilm" envelope. But a weasly part of my mind is thinking... I have spare envelopes... I could rip it open just one last time.

Does anyone else get like this?

I was totally obsessed by The Wire. I wanted to talk about it the whole time.

There's also a huge number of movies I obsessed about.

MrsJRT scurries away to YouTube to search for Naley...

hi
great to read this thread!
As a child I was totally obsessed with Dr Who (Jon Pertwee, TOm Baker vintage) and would be annoyed over summer when it was not on.

The advent of the internet, and more recently DVD box sets, really allowed my obsessiveness to flourish

Northern Exposure: agree with Vintagepommery, it's not quite so good 2nd time around but at the time was obsessed

X files: complete shipper, still mourn its passing or more like its getting rubbish towards the end

ER: til I ended up in hospital myself!

The Sopranos
Six Feet Under
Deadwood
Firefly
The Wire
Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes: Major obsession, fan sites, reading fan fiction the lot. Still can't think about the last episode without becoming tearful
Rome: What a joy that was, on so many levels!

There will be more, glad to know I'm not alone...

Let us know how it goes, TinyPaws ! I still love My So Called Life. I get a bit annoyed with Angela now, but it feels like a period piece almost...that's EXACTLY how life was back then. :)

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 05/09/2011 15:44

Oh, I LOVED My So Called Life. I treated myself to Party of Five on DVD recently. Only watched the first couple so far. I have to say I'm not nearly as enthralled as I was first time round Sad, although it was great to watch the first one ? I realised that I'd actually never seen it. Am a bit hesitant about watching My So Called Life again in case I have the same response.

Frasier isn't an obsession of mine exactly, but it never gets old.

carernotasaint · 05/09/2011 17:14

Spangle i was the same with Ashes to Ashes. I was tearful over the final episode too.

Spanglemum · 05/09/2011 21:40

I would love to get the DVD of Ashes to Ashes but don't know if I could live through it all again!

carernotasaint · 05/09/2011 22:56

I think one of the sites has the box set of Ashes to Ashes all three series for 31.99. For 24 episodes each lasting an hour i think its a bargain.

TinyPawz · 06/09/2011 22:20

Well watching My So-Called Life. I think it has lust it's lustre, only on 1st episode though.

Not impressed that the DVD does not have subtitles

CDMforever · 07/09/2011 22:39

More votes for My So Called Life, Party of Five and especially....Six Feet Under.

PoF was recently on CBS Drama. I didn't realise how many series there ended up being, the latter ones obviously minus Charlie and Julia Grin

MSCL, wow, that brings back some memories... I always had a soft spot for Angela's Dad rather than Jordan Cattalano.

Am sky plussing SFU at the mo on sky atlantic. Love love love it! The acting, the script the general quirky, dark, uncompromising demeanour of the show. And of course Peter Krause.... who I believe is now with Lorelei from Gilmore Girls. Envy

TinyPawz · 08/09/2011 00:13

Really? They must have got together while doing Parenthood. Have you seen it? Tis a good show.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 08/09/2011 14:40

CDM, IMO Six Feet Under is the best thing that's ever been on telly. Never a duff line, an unconvincing second of acting, or a knowingly under-art-directed scene Grin. Fecking miraculous TV.

I have watched the whole series three times already but feel like digging out the DVDs again now ...

I finally watched the TV series of State of Play over the weekend. OMG it was GOOD. I rented it from the library. 24 Hour Party People and Boston Kickout next with a bit of luck.
So SOOOO much better than watching the crappy bloody X Factor.
I am so going to get my own copy of State of Play though.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/09/2011 10:10

I've never seen State of Play. I must. I also need to see Any Human Heart (am rather late to the Matthew Macfadyen party but LOVED him in Pillars of the Earth). And I must watch the Alec Guinness Tinker Tailor series.

limitedperiodonly · 13/09/2011 11:00

You must watch the British State Of Play.

Avoid the Russell Crowe film. It's awful though there is an amusing irony in that someone who hates journalists so much can bring himself to play a fine, upstanding one if the cheque's big enough.

I swear that film got good reviews only because journalists are suckers for anything that casts them in a noble light.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/09/2011 11:04
Grin I've already heard that I should avoid the Russell Crowe one (and would anyway, on principle if nothing else, because I think the man is such a tit). Thanks for reinforcing though!
carernotasaint · 14/09/2011 01:01

It was the British State of Play that i watched last weekend. I am so NOT interested in the American film version.
