oes anyone on here get really stupidly obsessive about a television programme or film?

I get disks from "Lovefilm", and I usually watch them once, maybe watch a bit of the commentary or extras, then send it back to get the next one.

But I got the first episode of "Hornblower" starring Ioan Gruffudd and it's utterly obsessed me! Last couple of days, I have watched it morning noon and night. I could probably give a blow by blow account of every scene and have memorised some of the dialogue. Can't say I understand all the Naval jargon but that's the next thing on the list to do, that and read the entire works of C S Forester who wrote those books. And I want to go back to Dundee where there's a ship from that era and you can wander round it. I want to do that and half shut my eyes and pretend I'm on the ship in the film.

Today I had to get the children to stage an intervention and MAKE me seal up the "Lovefilm" envelope. But a weasly part of my mind is thinking... I have spare envelopes... I could rip it open just one last time.

Does anyone else get like this?

Oh and Caughtinanet - season 4 of Breaking Bad is currently on in the US and is supposed to be the final season Sad
1 and 2 are available on DVD boxset, think 3 is currently only available as as US import boxset.

Fontsnob · 01/09/2011 19:23

Oh God yes! The Wire, 24, Prison Break, The Shield, Treme...watch all of them on box set, DH and I lost days and days to them before DD, ah what bliss!!

Fontsnob · 01/09/2011 19:25

Oh and Stringer Bell, so yummy, not so much Luther though. Odd. And Jimmy McNulty and Kiefer and Wentworth Miller.

I've just had a funny turn thinking of them all at the same time!!

YaMaYaMa · 01/09/2011 19:34

God, I am was completely obsessed with Lost, 24, Supernatural, Stargate (SG1, Atlantis & Universe Blush), Prison Break, Spartacus, Red Dwarf and Blackadder. There's probably more, but I cant think of them.

Oh and Game of Thrones, but I havent looked at any sites as there will lots of spoilers.

feralgirl · 01/09/2011 19:40

Ooh, forgot 6 Feet Under and I agree that the final episode is just superb. We are currently doing Breaking Bad and thoroughly enjoying it.

YaMaYaMa · 01/09/2011 19:40

Oh and Battlestar Galacttica and Firefly.

Also, Malcolm In The Middle but I'm not quite sure why Hmm

CheerfulYank · 01/09/2011 19:46

I just can't get behind the whole "Wincest" phenomenon. There are all sorts of pairings I find intriguing, but family members....ew, ew, ew . :)

Fontsnob · 01/09/2011 19:55

Oh and Heroes was our other one. Good old cheese fest that one.

TinyPawz · 01/09/2011 19:57

Yet another Wingnut.....the show is fabulous. I think Toby is my favourite. It cahnges almost on a daily basis between him & Josh.

Also a huge fan of The Wire, I adore Dominic West.

My boxsets get watched in a little rota:WW, TWire, Greys, 24, ER, 6FeetUnder, Prison Break, GossipGirl, Dawsons, Buffy/Angel, The L Word and back again.

hardcolin · 01/09/2011 19:58

I'm a Wingnut. Love the name.
DH thinks I'm crazy because I'll watch each disc, and then a few months later I'll start again from Pilot. They got me through several bad weeks of morning sickness a few years ago, and I will be forever grateful.

I have two box sets - one I watch, the other a backup.
Heaven forbid there ever comes a time when I need to evacuate our home - I know that I would scoop my daughter under one arm and a box set under the other.

Currently viewing Season 4, Disc 6, Episode 22

Don't ask me my best top 10 episodes because I really think I could list them (oh that's sad).
I also like watching Medium but I'm way behind on series.

YaMaYaMa · 01/09/2011 20:03

Oh I'm with you on that, Cheerful. I want to look coz I've never read any fanfic type stuff but, er, well, 2 brothers? Not my cup of tea really. Especially as Sam looks like he's been hit in the face with a pan.

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/09/2011 20:04

I watched all series of Sex and the City for the first time through blockbuster and LOVED them, I could easily watch them through again and again.

I also am obsessed with Phantom of the Opera, I love all the songs and kid myself I can sing like the lovely Christine Daae Grin

LaWeasel · 01/09/2011 20:06

Poor Sam! I think it comes from 'welllll the actors aren't related are they?" but no, not my cup of tea either.

DawnTiggaWeirdyBeardy · 01/09/2011 20:18

Rocky Horror Picture Show.

aloiseb · 01/09/2011 20:28

Ohhh dear yes.....it all started with the New Avengers, back in the 70s.....I thought Joanna Lumley was so cool!

Now I have advanced.(?) I am obsessively watching the repeats of The Killing, to the general disgust of my family who have already put up with me raving about it the first time round.

oldsilver · 01/09/2011 20:35

Oh let me see now ... Babylon5; Star Trek Original, Next Gen, DS9, Voyager; Sunset Beach [shame] and Twin Peaks TV series, Fire Walk With Me film, both Laura Palmer's and Agent Cooper's diaries (books). There are more I move from obsession to obsession.

HappyTangerine · 01/09/2011 21:12

I'm another huge fan of State of Play,(series), love it and watch it over and over.

I was blown away by the first series of Spiral and we watched it all over a weekend. Loved The Wire (Idris Elba, swoon) and Jehrico, although still not seen the last few episodes of either. My guilty pleasures for making the ironing bearable are Mistresses, the Tudors and North and South!

I never really got into Sex and the City but loved Cashmere Mafia and was gutted that they cancelled it. Loving Wonderfalls at the moment but that was cancelled as well.

Oh and I was another Sunset Beach and Twin Peaks fan Grin. I love American Gothic (and Gary Cole). Waiting for some kind person in the US of A to release Midnight Caller on dvd Blush

runnyhabbit · 01/09/2011 21:38

ER - the first time round, and re-loving the repeats on Sky Atlantic.

DallasBlush - sanity saver whilst on mat leave with ds2 constant feeder

Ah yes, Buffy. At one time, I had the theme tune as my ringtoneBlush

And most def Bones. The very last episode, when Booth smiled at Bones..ahhSmile

twolittlemonkeys · 01/09/2011 21:45

I go through obsessive phases with shows or people. My friend lent me the DVD of the 2006 BBC adaptation of Jane Eyre and I love it (especially Toby Stephens as Mr Rochester). I find myself wasting soooo much time watching clips of it on YouTube Blush I tend to obsess about things generally - I have to have a project or something to obsess about and if everything is hunkydory/ boring I find a film/actor to obsess about. Sad or what? I need to get a life.

tjacksonpfc · 01/09/2011 21:49

Ok please din't laugh when I tell you mine. I loved flash forward on channel 5 then my obsessions get dafter lol. Only fools and horses ive watched them millions of times and still laugh. Only fools and horses everytime I think I've seen them all another one comes on. The inbetweeners and gavin and stacey.

My all time favourite and my dcs watch him now aswell is Norman Wisdom got all of his films books signed pictures. I know his stuff of by heart Grin

Ripeberry · 01/09/2011 21:51

Lost and Heroes.

Fontsnob · 01/09/2011 22:02

Oooooh...Midnight Caller..."Goodnight America. Wherever you are." I loved that show!

Fontsnob · 01/09/2011 22:03

Happytangerine thats a sure sign that we're over 30 :)

TinyPawz · 01/09/2011 22:16

I couldn;t get into The Killing. By the 5th episode I couldn't care less who killed Rosie.

FIFIBEBE · 01/09/2011 22:18

The L Word is my latest discovery - all 5 seasons. I obsess about each characters story and predictability (or not) of their actions. Would love to have 90 hours available for all of House. Sigh.
