oes anyone on here get really stupidly obsessive about a television programme or film?

I get disks from "Lovefilm", and I usually watch them once, maybe watch a bit of the commentary or extras, then send it back to get the next one.

But I got the first episode of "Hornblower" starring Ioan Gruffudd and it's utterly obsessed me! Last couple of days, I have watched it morning noon and night. I could probably give a blow by blow account of every scene and have memorised some of the dialogue. Can't say I understand all the Naval jargon but that's the next thing on the list to do, that and read the entire works of C S Forester who wrote those books. And I want to go back to Dundee where there's a ship from that era and you can wander round it. I want to do that and half shut my eyes and pretend I'm on the ship in the film.

Today I had to get the children to stage an intervention and MAKE me seal up the "Lovefilm" envelope. But a weasly part of my mind is thinking... I have spare envelopes... I could rip it open just one last time.

Does anyone else get like this?

YY Op - went through a phase last year of constantly watching my box sets of 'The Golden Girls'. Annoyingly they won't release series 5+ over here so I am stuck with 1-4 Angry.

I was obssessed with Lisa Kudrow's 'The Comeback' too at uni.

Lately though it's radio shows that I obsess about - Hancock's Half Hour, Hut 33, Old Harrys Game, No Commitments and A Brief History of TImewasting are current favourites!

Freudian slip or what?

midlandsmumof4 · 03/09/2011 00:24

Have gotten over 'Ghost Whisperer' but can't seem to let go of Medium. Am sure I could get hooked on Supernatural if I just could catch up where I left off......Blush. And Quantum Leap is still being shown somewhere...Smile.

midlandsmumof4 · 03/09/2011 00:26

OH is STUPIDLY obsessive about Notting Hill,Love Actually & Coyote Ugly..Blush.

Yama · 03/09/2011 16:29

Sam dies? Why didn't I know this? Maybe I did. Maybe I repressed the memory. Feel a bit sad now.

Hands up to be a Wingnut. Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc.

Yes to the Wire, yes to Battlestar.

Yes to teen obsession with Twin Peaks and all the Star Treks.

Still shking my heading and mumbling about Sam dying. Sad

Yama · 03/09/2011 16:32

Although I have to say that I can no longer fancy Toby Zeigler since seeing him sans beard in Jurassic Park 2. My whole heart can go to Josh.

SequinsAndSparkles · 03/09/2011 18:12

Oh god this thread is like my spritual home! Grin

I have a massively obsessive personality, always have since being young.

Past obsessions include:

True Romance (the film, with christian slater and patricia arquette) i wanted to be Alabama so bad. I wore a lot of leopard print and had platinum hair during that period.

The OC - I was hugely into The OC, fully involved with the only fandom, would watch the same episodes over and over...just loved it. And Seth Cohen is my dream man!

When I was young, like between the ages of 6 and 10 I loved The Ramones, and they were in a film called Rock and Roll High School. I was completely obsessed with it, and made everyone call me Riff (the main characters name) throughout most of my childhood, and its still a nickname now.

Other obsessions -

Currently Glee! Always on the forums, listen to the soundtrack obsessively, watch the episodes over and over.

Previously - Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Romeo & Juliet.

And i loveee 24!

midnightservant · 03/09/2011 18:20

Surely Sam doesn't die? Aren't all the people he meets up with at the end other leapers? Doesn't it say he just goes on leaping?

Or is my memory fucked? (A definite possibility).

Yama · 03/09/2011 19:26

Okay, I am watching Doctor Who for the first time ever tonight (at dd's request).

The guy with the pony tail was in one of the first ever storylines of Cracker. Where he and his girlfriend got off on murder. He had a stutter.

I effing loved Cracker.

Robert Carlyle's "L. I. V. E. R. P. double O. L. Liverpool FC". Magic.

And when his boss got stabbed and died. Why?? Oh, that upset me. I thought, "It's ok, he'll live." And he didn't Sad

MrsJRT · 03/09/2011 19:48

One Tree Hill Blush, The OC, Lost, ER, Grey's Anatomy. Loved them all to the point of obsession. I love a good boxset.

CheerfulYank · 03/09/2011 20:27

I still love One Tree Hill, too!

The other day I got a really good deal on sweatshirts on line and I was going to order one for DH. They were all college teams and I finally bought a Duke one because he looks nice in black....and because it's the same one Nathan Scott always wore. Blush Blush Blush

Fontsnob · 03/09/2011 21:24

Oh no, I feel I have to admit to the new incarnation of 90210. I can't help it.

Arcadie · 04/09/2011 00:09

Quantum Leap, yes (Sad about Sam dying revelations)
Firefly: Yes
Twin Peaks: Oh my word yes.
Doctor Who: mmmm hmmmmm
Gotta get my medical geek fix.
Scrubs/Casualty/House/Bodies and the amazing ER. DH bought me the ENTIRE 15 seasons of ER on DVD. Now I've watched them all I just have to find a way to get rid of them.

Oh and "State of play" was amazing. I just wanted to cuddle john simm.

carernotasaint · 04/09/2011 01:40

Arcadie im the same. I have ordered State of Play from the library. Should be in by the middle of the week. Ive never seen State of Play before and would also love to see 24 Hour Party People. So by next weekend i will be very happily occupied.

threestars · 04/09/2011 07:37

I was obsessed about Six Feet Under. DH used to work on the other side of the country, so every evening I'd settle down and watch 2 -3 episodes all in one go.
But when I watched the episode where a woman choked on her ready meal for one and wasn't found for ages and then they couldn't find any of her friends or relatives because her address book was out of date, I became really morose. But most of the time while I was watching it, I would muse about all the different ways a person can die. Not very healthy.

Whenever I'm down I put some Will and Grace on. I love it. They're so evil to each other.

CheerfulYank · 04/09/2011 07:51

Threestars I watched the entire series of 6 Feet Under during my last trimester when I was pregnant with my son. I ended up getting very safety-conscious for awhile.

I forgot one: Army Wives. Love it!

MrsJRT · 04/09/2011 10:10

cheerful yank that's exactly the kind of thing I'd do. I love Nathan and Haley. They are one of my favourite TV couples. Along with Derek and Meredith, Mark and Elizabeth and Seth and Summer. Blush

DillyTante · 04/09/2011 10:17

I'm a definite Wing Nut.

When I was a teenager I was obsessed with the X Files. I used to cut out any articles about it and put them in a folder. My friend and I used to copy out our favourite quotes. We'd have X Files nights and spend all night watching our favourite episodes. I was a complete 'shipper' Blush

CheerfulYank · 04/09/2011 10:23

MrsJRT I regularly watch "Naley" tribute videos on Youtube and DH gives me a very Hmm face, but I can't help it...love them! Blush

greencolorpack · 04/09/2011 15:11

I've just rented "Man and Boy" starring Ioan Gruffudd. I'm out with my family for the day but deep down I feel any time not watching this film is time wasted.

My new boxset arrived yesterday. A So Called Life. I will either get drawn back in to the teenage angst without a backward glance or will hate it second time round.

LottieJenkins · 04/09/2011 20:43

My ds (who has autism) is currently obsessed with Midsomer Murders. All well and good until you sit down to watch it with him and he tells you two minutes into to every episode who the killer is! Hmm It rather spoils the enjoyment!Wink

borntoberiled · 04/09/2011 20:45

Ooh, nice thread. For me, 24, Grey's, and just started West Wing. Love it.

Dalrymps · 05/09/2011 08:59

Ok pretty obvious choices but I can never get enough of Friends and Sex And The City.

When younger I used to love Party of Five and My So Called Life. Brilliant!

Vintagepommery · 05/09/2011 10:00

I used to be competely obsessed with Northern Exposure back in the 90's. Especially the 1st 2 or 3 series - it got a bit crap towards the end. Loved Dr Joel Fleischman and Maggie O'Connell in an I want to be her way. (Even considered training as a pilot despite the fact that I feel sick just sitting in a light aircraft). Have got the DVDs and can't see why I liked her so much now - she seems a complete smug prig. Will always love Dr Joel Fleischman though.

Also had a thing about Dawson's creek - especially Pacey and Joey.
