oes anyone on here get really stupidly obsessive about a television programme or film?

I get disks from "Lovefilm", and I usually watch them once, maybe watch a bit of the commentary or extras, then send it back to get the next one.

But I got the first episode of "Hornblower" starring Ioan Gruffudd and it's utterly obsessed me! Last couple of days, I have watched it morning noon and night. I could probably give a blow by blow account of every scene and have memorised some of the dialogue. Can't say I understand all the Naval jargon but that's the next thing on the list to do, that and read the entire works of C S Forester who wrote those books. And I want to go back to Dundee where there's a ship from that era and you can wander round it. I want to do that and half shut my eyes and pretend I'm on the ship in the film.

Today I had to get the children to stage an intervention and MAKE me seal up the "Lovefilm" envelope. But a weasly part of my mind is thinking... I have spare envelopes... I could rip it open just one last time.

Does anyone else get like this?

I am still baffled with who killed Jenny Scheckter. Drives me nuts.

Similarly, I don't believe for a second that Toby was the leak in WW but noone is around to write a story to make be believe otherwise

I watched scary amounts of TV as a child in the 80s*, mostly American imports and some of it completely age inappropriate....and it was great Grin. I've since had many happy evenings down the pub reminiscing with other children of the 80s about the joys of the A-Team, Dallas and Nightrider (David Hasselhoff and a talking car...whats not to love?).

*And I went on to do a PhD, so it obviously didn't completely fry my brain

somewherewest · 02/09/2011 04:58

PS Have just got into box sets and am now working my way through The Walking Dead (have soft spot for Andrew Lincoln ever since he played the lovelorn best man in Love Actually...and its always good to be prepared for the zombie apocalypse Grin).

Mamathulu · 02/09/2011 06:20

Jeez, where have you all been my entire life? I've been sat here, watching about 90% of these shows, starting with
Buffy/Angel
Stargate (although never really got into Atlantis)
West Wing (I'm soo there with the cashmere, pencil skirt, heels and witty quips)
Black Books
Spaced
Firefly
Dollhouse
Rome
Tudors (although this is one of the poorer quality ones)
Carnivale (fantastic series, shame it got the chop)
Deadwood
True Blood
Walking Dead
Breaking Bad
ooh that's just the main ones I think.

think I'll need to watch House at some point, but having a chronic illness myself, I'm not too keen on the medical ones.
I'm such a geek though - I still roleplay with friends once a week (the geeky kind, not the kinky kind!) but we tend to stay away from the classics now, and do stuff we've written ourselves or stuff related to above shows - did a Stargate game for a while, just been doing a steampunk/Lovecraftian/magic game a friend wrote. Do I get extra geek points? Grin

Mamathulu · 02/09/2011 06:21

(oh, I meant to say my first comment is more 'I'm a little bit in love with you all' rather than 'get with the programme!')

greencolorpack · 02/09/2011 09:25

Belle End I hate you!!! I'm so jealous. No I'm glad for you. If I met an actor I fancied I would be too shy to approach them. Good to know IG is friendly to his fans.

I made a bit of a dick of myself. He was with Matthew Rhys and I didn't know who he was. I recently saw him in The Edge of Love, which was crap, but that scene when he's in the bath.

CheerfulYank · 02/09/2011 10:32

Mama I forgot about Rome! I loved Titus Pullo that show with my whole heart!

YaMaYaMa · 02/09/2011 12:15

Oh how I love your name, BelleEnd Grin

leakyR · 02/09/2011 12:51

I made myself tireder than usual watching the L-word for the last couple of months on Living (no sky+ or similar here) officially in mouring now it's finished. Think I was a bit obsessed. If I ever get enough spare cash a box set is heading my way.
I remember loving Northern Exposure as a teen and had a thing for ER right through, liked the West Wing, Six Feet Under. Since having ds (4.5) telly doesn't grab me like it used to and my memory is shot so if i see something I enjoy I forget when it's on again e.g the latest Nurse Jackie series and parenthood that was on 5er. On mat leave with ds I HAD to watch Gilmore Girls if I was home.

Chrononaut · 02/09/2011 14:54

Blackadder (Mmmm... er, no, that one's just funny)

Becaroooo · 02/09/2011 15:14

ladyclarice

Are you me??????

Shock

Have you read the Lucy Worsely TV tie in book? V good.

feralgirl · 02/09/2011 15:20

Trina, did you not have just a weeny bit of a crush on Lister? I know I do did as pre-teen. And in the Bodyswap episode in the fourth series I think thought that Chris Barrie dressed as Lister was quite hot Blush

melodyangel · 02/09/2011 15:21

Farscape - watched them all again last year took ages.

We have been lent Battlestar so have that to watch.

As for obsessive watching we had a month or so of watching the Tim Minchin Dvd's alot.

MadamDeathStare - It's so good isn't it.

feral Nope, never my thing. Chris Barrie had the better body (qv Terrorform) but he was RIMMER and fancying him would probably be a capital offence...

reastie · 02/09/2011 16:53

I was obsessed with 'lost'...until the crap ending

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 02/09/2011 17:06

Bec, do we share all the same obsessions? Perhaps we are the same person, yes. Smile No I haven't, but it's on my 'to read' list. What did you think of the first episode of the Regency programme?

Becaroooo · 02/09/2011 17:11

I thought it was very interesting...not as good as "If walls could talk" so far but its early days...got the book for my knidle and have read it twice! She has a lovely writing style.

I love the West Wing so much I called my ds2 Toby Blush (it was either that, Josh or Sam!!)

CheerfulYank · 02/09/2011 17:12

I loved the ending of Lost reastie !

KatieScarlett2833 · 02/09/2011 17:21

The Tudors too, even though I know it plays fast and loose with historical facts

I think I just like to watch the pretty people shagging, tbh.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 02/09/2011 17:27

bec, I agree; it seemed to try to cover more ground than If Walls ..., and in the process lost focus and lost a bit of her personality too. I liked the hands-on element of If Walls ... and would have liked more of that in Regency. But yes, early days!

Toby is a lovely name. Smile

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 02/09/2011 17:41

Cheerful Yank You're the only person I know who doesn't hate the Lost ending. I have to say I loved it too, I liked that a lot of things were left ambiguous Smile

Becaroooo · 02/09/2011 17:47

katie didnt someone on here call the tudors "medieval Hollyoaks"??? Grin

ladyclarice Yes. I did enjoy it, but it lacked some of the fun/character of "If walls..." She doesnt seem to be having as much fun with this one Hmm.

They did this with Victorian Farm IMO too....it was such a (surprise) hit that they made Edwardian Farm straight afterwards, but instead of filming 12 months over 6 episodes as before, they made it into a 12 episode series and, for me, it really didnt work as well.

I also love Black Books, the IT crowd, Big Bang theory, Outnumbered (new series tonight...yay!) and the Supersizers series...have loved all of those! (have you been watching the repeats?? on BBC4) I thought the best one was the 1970's one as I could remember a lot of the food (and fashions!!!) Grin
