Old thread's getting full, so here's a nice new acid-resistant one...

One thing that might make for a disjointed feeling about the season, and go some way to explain the lack of 'Where's Melody' stuff, is that both the last two episodes were originally meant to be shown before Melody was born - The God Complex was originally intended for the last series, and Night Terrors was swapped with the Pirates episode. So any mentions of Melody would have had to have been shoehorned in to the episodes, which probably didn't have a lot of slack in them

scaevola · 19/09/2011 18:26

Why couldn't a ganger Doc have companions? After all Rory didn't notice he had a ganger wife.

AitchTwoOh · 19/09/2011 19:09

i am rubbish at all this stuff but is it possible that we have wrongly assumed that the second doc in america is one from a different timeline and he is in fact a ganger all along? or are there three docs? ganger, dead guy and 900 year old?

teejwood · 19/09/2011 23:15

aitch as soon as the gangers were introduced i automatically thought it was a ganger doctor who died. if gangers were exact reproductions down to blood clots in the brain then why not regeneration capabilities too?

tash i completely know what you mean about the eps being switched round but it's more than that. there is just too much repetition of ideas and concepts iykwim.

eg - when you think about it, of the 11 episodes we have had this season, 7 have obviously featured copies/clones/the same person in two different timelines - that we know of:

  • Impossible Astronaut (two doctors)
  • Rebel Flesh (obviously the workers and the doctor)
  • Almost People (ditto)
  • Good man goes to war (ganger melody)
  • Let's Kill Hitler (Mels/River and Tesselecta pretending to be anyone it needed to replicate)
  • Night Terrors (a "cuckoo" alien who pretended to be human to assimilate into the family)
  • Girl Who Waited (Amy in two different timestreams)

we have also had a motif of illness used in 2 eps (Curse of the Black Spot and Girl Who Waited)

2 eps where aliens consume energy in the form of faith/souls/tardises (God Complex and Doctor's Wife)

2 eps where nightmares are featured (God Complex and Night Terrors) - albeit these two are almost mirror images of each other; in one George and his dad needed to have faith to overcome the nightmare, while in the other people needed to abandon their faith to survive. Also - in the first half of the series Madame Kovarian would bleed through into Amy's consciousness almost like a waking dream...

i mean - that is repetitive, no?

scaevola · 19/09/2011 23:20

Good post teej!

BTW - does anyone remember if the Doctor who walked out to meet TIA was in a blue (or red) bow tie, and ditto the one who came out of the bogs?

teejwood · 19/09/2011 23:35

ta, sacevola, but i think i've just given myself a headache thinking about it all Wink

doctor who was zapped had a blue bow tie; same for the doctor who walked out of the loo, unfortunately!

teejwood · 19/09/2011 23:35

sorry scaevola Blush

scaevola · 20/09/2011 07:03

Rats - I was feeling quite inspired by the bow tie watch earlier in the thread!

Unless there are 2x ganger docs, and the real one is again in the Pandorica or something.

teejwood · 20/09/2011 13:24

scaevola there may yet be something in bow tie watch.

also - there are so many things that do not make sense or we do not know, even from the first episode - this series needs a massive clear up in the next two eps.

  • why was the doctor so keen to draw attention to himself in the run up to tia?
  • why did he need to escape from the Tower of London in a hot air balloon? where was the tardis? have we had a tardis-less doctor at large?
  • if there is another version of the doctor running around from the start, i have wondered if it was the doctor who knocked out Canton in ep 1 when they were in the Silence's lair. we have assumed it was the silence or the girl - but maybe not?
  • what really happened when rory and river were in the silence tardis as the silence approached? there was a lot of light crackling in the background - was that just the silence cracking energy or were they engaged in a struggle in the corridors with another party (eg doctor?)

no doubt this is all a load of phoey, but speculation is half the fun, isn't it?!

cardibach · 20/09/2011 22:42

scaevola a ganger Dr. could have companions, just not Rory and Amy as they have been with the other Dr. Or perhaps thqat DR. was the ganger. In any case, only one of them has Rory and Amy as companions so to stop us telling the Dr.s apart neither Dr. can have them. IYSWIM.

AitchTwoOh · 20/09/2011 23:13

just watching dr who conf... does beth willis hate piers wenger or wot? and vice versa?

teejwood · 21/09/2011 11:45

aitch yy - that interview really showed frostiness between the pair. still, they have moved on now; hopefully the next team will work out better...

teejwood · 21/09/2011 11:47

ohhhh aitch do you have access to the final ep yet??

teejwood · 21/09/2011 11:50

another thought that has been playing on my mind. we assume that the astronaut shoots the doctor dead. but we don't know what that ray actually was. what's to say that it wasn't a ray that could stabilise the form of the being it was shooting and then cut off the link for a ganger version of the doctor?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/09/2011 11:59

I am as confused as a confused person with a degree in confusion from the University of Confusedness. Confused

teejwood · 21/09/2011 12:29

SDTG it is indeed confusing Grin

AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 14:04

no, on my preview site it has a big banner saying COMING SOON over the link.

ScatterChasse · 21/09/2011 15:51

I'd love it if he wore a green bow tie next week, you know, now SM realises we've cracked sort of his fiendish plan!

Btw, can anyone answer my River question, or are you all as confused as I am?

Have you seen it yet Aitch, is it a corker?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 21/09/2011 16:48

I am soooo confused. Which I hate, because you should be able to work it out if you are nerdy enough about it. Humph.

I am really hoping that some light is shed on it all in Saturday's episode.

AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 18:03

ah bollix, have just clicked on the 'coming soon' banner and it says 'Please note - we will not have ep. 13 available on our online previews site.' how dare they toy with me like this?

i do know the name, though. do we all know that already?

MigratingCoconuts · 21/09/2011 18:46

STDG is that in Confusedtown, in NewConfusedland....cos I'm there too!

TashHag · 21/09/2011 18:49

The TARDIS Index File says its 'The Wedding of River Song' - is that right?

AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 18:50

aye.... start speculating, kiddios.

AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 18:51

am quite pleased that will see it on the proper night, actually. the temptation is too strong if it's sitting there on the computer, but i do prefer watching it with the rest of the plebs. Grin

MigratingCoconuts · 21/09/2011 19:24

Yes, that episode name is what one of my students said it was. I've asked him to watch his box set of episodes so that he can check out the bow tie colour thing for me...

He sort of started looking at me in part confusion and part respect when I started banging on about gangers and bowtie colour Grin
