jet, RT must have it wrong. Tonight's was 6/8. Got to be MaryAnne to win, some things she does are inspired. Jo is quite flappy. Holly, I cannot warm to. Quite like Janet and her mad staring eyes. Poor old Yasmin, she did looked relieved to be out though. Thought they are looked knackered and stressed tonight.

Overall I don't think the standard is as high this year. In llast year's semi, Ed, Ruth, and Miranda were all very good.

Mary Berry looked like she just licked piss off a nettle quite a few times tonight, while Paul seemed a bit less brutal.

Still missing Jason.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2011 22:24

yes,go Mary Anne !! am disliking Mary Berry more and more.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/09/2011 22:29

"licked piss off a nettle" :o

I read that Ruth from last year's blog and she's a world apart from this lot.

MollieO · 20/09/2011 22:41

Just watching it on Iplayer and I am finding Holly unbelievably irritating.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2011 22:50

Holly takes it way too seriously..Janet is just funny and daft.

MollieO · 20/09/2011 22:55

wtf has the gingerbread house got to do with it. Based on her croque thingy Holly should have gone.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 21/09/2011 00:06

Grin I love 'licked piss of a nettle' - brilliant!

I really like how Janet comes across as a person - she just seems to nice, and ridiculously calm. Wouldn't she be awesome to know?

I like Mary Ann too, love the way she always has interesting different things to do. Yasmina was a bit blahh.

How old is Holly, btw?

LRDTheFeministDragon · 21/09/2011 00:08

*so, not to. Duh!

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2011 06:52

I think MaryAnne will win, but Jason was my favourite and my best Sad

How old do we think MaryAnne is?

jetmonkey · 21/09/2011 07:09

I think it said somewhere on the show that she was 40's. I remember thinking "wow she looks a lot older than that" at the time anyway Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/09/2011 07:20

She's 45

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2011 07:23

Shock I thought she was at least 10 years older than that, could pass for 20 years older Shock

Chandon · 21/09/2011 07:24

I like Janet, I want her to be my MIL Grin, she just seems a nice person. Not the best baker though.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2011 07:30

think Holly's about 31

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2011 07:32

Yes Janet's lovely. How old is she? Not old enough to be my MIL, I'd wager!

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2011 07:33

I'd have Jason for my son though Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2011 07:37

think Holly's about 31
Janet must be in her sixties

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2011 07:37

woah- repeating myself.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/09/2011 07:42

Janet 63
Holly 31
Jo 41
Yasmin 43

Here

FancyForgetting · 21/09/2011 08:01

I'm glad Yasmin seemed relieved to go - she seemed so stressed last night.

Jo is a sweetie, but her lack of consistency is nerve-racking to watch - I worry about her too.

Love, love, love Janet - she is so drily witty and self-deprecating (in a non-Kate-Winslet way!) and seems gob-smacked when it goes right. Don't think she's technical or consistent enough to win, though.

Holly is just too try-hard and seems not to enjoy it as much as the others, unless she is winning. I am liking her less and less, particularly when she seemed to make Yasmin going all about her. We laughed when Queen Mary of Berry said 'you're just the perfect mum' and she said she wasn't - DD wonders if she locks her children under the stairs while she perfects her creations!

While Holly bakes with her head, Mary-Ann bakes with her heart, she is so intuitive with her flavour, she obviously just loves it, and has taken on board the criticism of her presentation.

Mary-Ann to win Smile

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/09/2011 08:09

Well it comes down to whose house would I like to go to for tea and it'd be Mary-Ann every time :) She'd give you loads of lovely creations, refill the teapot often and not mind if you got jam on the tablecloth :) I'd like to have Janet there too but it's Mary-Ann's cooking I'd want to eat.

Tea at Holly's would be like a scientific experiment and tea at Jo's would give you a nervous breakdown!

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2011 08:13

I'd rather go to Janets. You could have a really good giggle with her.

MaryAnne reminds me of one of those posh two fat ladies that used to do cooking programmes.

ppeatfruit · 21/09/2011 09:26

Janet to win!!! She seems so genuinely self deprecating; that cheesecake looked sooooo fab and soft but light. I miss the lads too!!Grin.

BTW i actually make that chocolate roulade and it ain't hard unless you've never made it before i suppose. Janet obviously hadn't!!

ppeatfruit · 21/09/2011 09:32

IMO Mary "licknettle' lol Berry's recipe of roulade is beaten hands down by Saint Delia's she'd be a better judge wouldn't she?

Poledra · 21/09/2011 09:46

GwendolineMaryLacey, I said almost exactly that to DH last night! Tea at MaryAnn's, the food would be delicious and she'd not mind you going back for seconds (and thirds, and possibly fourths, if you could squeeze it in Grin).
