just seen a trailer with the gorgeous Captain Jack and Gwen. No idea when it will be shown bit I'm so happyyyy. We really thought they'd killed it off with the last series.

Anyone know when it's coming??!!

I thought tonight's episode was much better. I was close to giving up after last week.

alowVeraWithPurpleTwuntyPants · 04/08/2011 23:36

Eew gruesome tonight. I don't like this weeks episode of TW, too much horrible things going on.

Captain jack = yummy.

HarrietJones · 05/08/2011 07:19

Yes I'm going to watch it as an American drama now and see if that improves it.

Trailer for next week looked more promising

KatyMac · 05/08/2011 07:44

Who would need 'bodies' and why?

I'm thinking either the people who wanted the kids last series or Cybermen

Any other traditional Dr Who 'enemies' who want bodies?

strandednomore · 05/08/2011 07:49

You see, I am really enjoying it but I've not watched Torchwood before (or modern-day Dr Who except for one episode with Kylie Minogue in it) so have nothing to compare it to. I think it's got a great premise - all these super-hero types saving the world but still having their own personal lives to deal with at the same time. I really like Gwen, and I'm enjoying all the old 1980's Brat Pack movie stars turning up (Mare Winningham, C Thomas Howell).

Are they going to be using the bodies in the overflow camps for organ donation or something?

WhoWhoWhoWho · 05/08/2011 08:26

I do think it works best if it's not compared to the old torchwood. It's not going to be the same is it, so may as well just go with the flow. I tend to choose american shows over english ones anyway so it's not as if its some horrid format.

So I guess I didn't miss much last week then?????

RustyBear · 05/08/2011 08:37

So are there two sets of aliens in hiding all around us - and do the Torchwood lot, whoever they are, know about The Silence? Or have RTD and SM been emailing each other? Grin

There was an occasion once before when SM and RTD came up with the same plot device unknown to each other - Donna's 'parallel lives' in both Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead and Turn Left - they had to switch the running order of the episodes around so that they didn't come consecutively.

strandednomore · 05/08/2011 08:43

who is sm and rtd???? now I'm lost.....

HarrietJones · 05/08/2011 08:53

Russell T Davies & Steven Moffat

RustyBear · 05/08/2011 08:53

SM=Steven Moffat (Doctor Who producer)
RTD= Russell T Davies (Torchwood producer & ex-Doctor Who producer)

strandednomore · 05/08/2011 08:58

ah ok thanks so what I am gathering here is that there is a similar plotline running in Dr Who (which I don't watch because I can't shake the feeling that it's really a show aimed at 8 year old boys) at the moment? Perhaps they will converge?

RustyBear · 05/08/2011 09:12

There were several stories in Torchwood series one & two concerning people not dying - in Random Shoes, an alien eye keeps Eugene 'alive' (though invisible) and then there is the whole resurrection glove thing - though when Suzie is revived with the first glove, she only stays alive by draining Gwen's life force, and Owen, who is revived with the second glove is more like an animated corpse than the living dead in this series - can't eat, doesn't feel pain etc.

But it could be a new development of the same technology, which allows the glove energy to be refined and broadcast worldwide instead of being concentrated in the glove. And that could explain Jack's problem - if the TARDIS energy Rose gave him is being drained by keeping the entire 'dead' population alive, maybe it stops him healing as he usually does.

No idea who would be doing it, or why, though...

Quenelle · 05/08/2011 10:52

Well I had more idea what was going on at the end of last night's episode. But no, it's not Torchwoody really, more like a US sci-fi drama. DH and I agreed it's still better than Heroes though.

strandednomore Give Dr Who a try, it is aimed at 8 year old boys on one level, but is very adult in other respects. And it's not even always very science-fictiony. I never watched the old ones when I was little, they scared me shitless, I have only come to watch the new ones as an adult and I think they are a completely different show.

cakesandale · 05/08/2011 11:24

I've given up on it, as of halfway through last night. I want aliens, dammit!

vogonmothership · 05/08/2011 11:48

agree, thinking of it as American scifi drama with 2 characters who used to be in torchwood made it a lot more palatable last night

I think bodies are food/energy cells for aliens, that old chestnut

I was a bit Hmm when Cap'n Jack referred to George Elliot as He. But on the plus side Gwen had fab legs and should get them out more

notcitrus · 05/08/2011 13:34

How does an action thriller show manage to be so slow and clunky?
The gruesome bits were almost laughable. I'm not sure I'm going to bother watching any more of this, despite the best efforts of Gwen and Jack and Dr Juarez (though all her lines now are 'OMG you can't do this!', followed by standing around ineffectually).

Pixel · 05/08/2011 19:24

I thought he referred to George Eliot as 'she'. I noticed because the name Mary Ann Evans immediately popped into my head. See, English A level wasn't a waste after all. Grin

alowVeraWithPurpleTwuntyPants · 05/08/2011 19:44

George Elliot was a she.

Pixel · 05/08/2011 19:53

Well, saddo that I am I went on to iplayer to check Blush and he did say 'she' at 13.57. So that's all right then!

vogonmothership · 05/08/2011 20:21

Hurrah Pixel thank you, I was quite Shock that RT would let 'He' slip through! Grin

Flossie69 · 05/08/2011 20:41

Have just watched this, and thought it was good - the tension is really building, and the trailer at the end was reall good.

But WHY must there always be a baby the size and shape of my 14 month old DD in peril, or abandoned? I find watching that very difficult.

The eye in the crushed car was cool though Grin

DanseMacabre · 05/08/2011 21:06

Holes.....

Ok - so the bloke had his neck shot through - but he was still alive and could write yes? Why did they just leave him there? Take him back and find out the truth surely? Also - if they leave him there no one will believe the server just burned out as was the original plan - there's a shot bloke next to it...

.....also why does Rex only refer to and constantly patch up the front of his (rather lovely) chest when the rod went all the way through him???

talkingnonsense · 05/08/2011 21:59

Excellent points danse. And why, now they know they've been found, haven't they moved again?
