I think McGann's the policeman who got shot in 1969 was shot by other policemen and McGann's character came to know about it.
The son somehow got the gun from the scene and embarked upon a 'career' as a serial killer. When McGann's character tried to stop the guy in the gold capri from kidnapping the boy in the early 80s, he reported it but was told to go no further (for reasons I do not know) and that his reward would be a high rank in the force.

Either that or Withnail did it.

MollieO - I wish it wasn't stopping but this is Series 9 I believe so maybe it's better to go out with people wanting more? You should try finding some earlier ones to watch as they were fab too. Die hard fans would say they were better. I've seen and loved them all!

They are cancelling it to make way for new drama apparently. I think it's a shame as it's not as if we have overkill with WtD. It isn't on that often. I've been watching series 1 and they all look so young! Spencer makes silly jokes, he's not all serious like he is now.

are you watching series 1 on tv on demand or a dvd? I quite fancy watching some early ones.

Never watched it before as I can't stand Trevor Eve. Ended up watching this series by accident and now wish I'd watched some of the other series.

If they are doing a spin off of WTD though, is that better than keeping WTD with new characters?

If we had known before they were stopping it we could have made MNHQ start a petition. Maybe we could have got to have more Spence, Grace, Eve, Boyd and the other one who is a gonner

DVD, Piste. Have just started one about a missing police officer. One of the first ones has Hamgela Griffin in, she is awful

diddl, I think that they are going down the route of focusing more on the pathology as that is what is popular, and certainly fashionable in US televiion at the moment. Unfortunately, there's a glur of that sort of stuff and I think it will probably be a dud. I's much rather see some development of the other characters within the WtD scenario.

Agree re McGann being the pregnant woman's baby,I thought the shot policeman's son was the killer of the boys.
McGann knows he is the killer,but maybe Mcgann shot his father and that is the hold he has over him?
