Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

if the theory about whodunnit is correct i don't think he wanted the body found - he feels it is "his" according to bengt
BUT i think he wanted it known that nanna was dead so the family were not living waiting for her to turn up iykwim.
that might impact their ability to operate and therefore his job.
thing is if that is right he is even more of a selfish b***d than most serial killers as he knows how precious nanna was to her family Angry
or maybe he realised what he had done and DID want the family to be able to bury her - it was his concession to their link with him

ROFL-ing at the pans on the stove
have a lovely time lula - maybe the hotel has digital tele with iplayer?!

Fivecentsplease · 12/03/2011 13:56

So Vagn is the number one suspect today? Hmm. He does have a wife after all, as he said the wreath was from him and someone. Not sure why a wife would temper any psychopathic tendencies, but might reduce his opportunity for a weekend of murder etc (eg "If you think I'm looking after the kids all weekend while you go out murdering, think again, I have a hair appointment") Hmm

Fivecentsplease · 12/03/2011 14:00

Oh and I agree about the tele in the hotel Lula :Just leave him in the bar for a bit....Grin

atswimtwolengths · 12/03/2011 14:02

;) @ fivecents. If only it was that easy to control a psychopath!

I think Vagn and Morten have both been hidden in plain view - a common feature in a thriller. They seem so inoffensive and unlikely that nobody's questioned them thoroughly, if at all. We assume their genial natures mean they are 'normal'.

I cannot wait until tonight, but am resisting the cold beans in an old pan. Seafood pizza with double anchovies is on the cards, I think!

Fivecentsplease · 12/03/2011 14:12

Ah, 'The Troels' dinner option. Remember, you must sit at a table for that.

Ohh thanks Proles - There goes my only hope for Vagn. It would be plot-tastic to have had Nanna call on Vagn for help from the flat, only to have him kill her off.

By the way, on the Menu tonight, you can also choose from "The Meyer", which is basically a banana and a fag, with salad and feta on the side (but only if you buy it yourself on the way home).

Smile
muminlondon · 12/03/2011 15:09

I'm sure the spa will do a low-carbon version of the Meyer for lula

The Guardians write up of tonights episode's mentions Bengt so seems like he might be back in it? Maybe something serious happens to Lund. I'm so looking forward to it but also starting to feel anxious its nearly over!

Poppet45 · 12/03/2011 16:28

Less than five hours!!! Am loving some of the new theories implicating multiple parties and a potential 'rescuer' going bad. Right am off to go and braise some lamb shanks for us to eat out of our pans.

atswimtwolengths · 12/03/2011 16:46

Laughing my head off here at the deli orders here.

I think the wreath was from Vagn alone.

If you have a copy of episode 1, go back and look at the start of Pernille and Theis. They have a leak in their dishwasher and end up making love on the floor. The apartment is bright and sunny and colourful. They're laughing and rolling on the ground. (Had to wince as Theis threw himself down on the floor, actually. Thought that might be the death.)

Then later, Theis has to go off to work and his workmates are waiting for him. Pernille says his name and he turns to her. The expression on her face is just lovely. Full of love. The workmates' faces soften and Theis just looks at her; he knows exactly how she feels. It's so moving. And then their world is wrenched apart. It makes their break up and his ending up in the doss house even more poignant.

atswimtwolengths · 12/03/2011 16:47

Oh get a cushion ready this week or next for when Lund is in the apartment and whoever cut the wire to the landing light comes to get her...

atswimtwolengths · 12/03/2011 16:48

First thing Bengt will say, as Lund lies on the floor, attacked by ummm the attacker, will be "Why the FUCK didn't you read those files!"

so to summerise the menu tonight is:
A Lund - something unidentifiable eaten (cold?) out of the pan.
A Meyer - banana and a fag with a pack of crisps on the side (and you may have to share your fag and banana with someone else)
A Troels - pizza - eaten at a table with a knife and fork and a glass of wine
humm......not find this overly appealing :)

wigwam1973 · 12/03/2011 17:07

Lol, atswim!

I remember the broken dishwasher bit - can't say it would particularly put me in the mood, but hey ho, whatever floats your boat.

Am super excited/nearly fainting at the thought of seeing the lovely Bengt today. Will he rush in, save Lund and carry her off to his polar pine sauna for a bit of, er, de-briefing Wink?

Microwave meal for me tonight. Not quite eating out of pan, but not far off either. Not long to go now. On the Killing page on the BBC website, it suggests that tonight we might find out the identity of the killer...

Jammie - I'm also worried about the thought that it will soon be over. Hope BBC4 think of me and put on something else suitable to fill the void.

Blackduck · 12/03/2011 17:18

But for the second episode tonight it says Lund won't get on board with the view that the killer has been found and for next week (this is just a oneliner) it mentions an old case - you're not telling me she is going to read that bloody file!!

atswimtwolengths · 12/03/2011 17:24

I doubt they'll find the killer tonight, just find the person who isn't the killer but who the chief of police thinks SHOULD be the killer! In fact I think we could definitely say that whoever is arrested tonight isn't the killer, given we will have four more episodes!

Mind you they might just mean Troels as he's banged up (abroad) isn't he?

trickquestion · 12/03/2011 18:20

In the Radio Times there is a picture of Lund talking to the taxi driver who dropped Nanna off (at least I think that's who it is) . Could he be a suspect after all?. I had to call DH in from outside to tell him I had solved he case when I saw that.

atswimtwolengths · 12/03/2011 18:27

:) at trickquestion. Has your husband been avoiding you all week, because of your obsession? I watch it with my friend and we don't know anyone else who watches it. Have to admit I ask nearly I everyone, even when I'm buying chocolate or a newspaper.

It was funny, I went on the steam mop thread and could feel the urgency to own one rising in me. It was exactly the same feeling as I'm having over The Killing. The solution, as far as I can see is to order a steam mop to arrive the day after the finale. (Please don't confuse me with someone who likes housework - not sure what I'd do with the mop once I'd got it.)

muminlondon · 12/03/2011 18:28

wigwam they'll be showing Spiral series 3 I think - maybe they will also repeat the first two series as they may get bigger audiences now that people are anticipating a weekly Eurocrime fix. I'll need it, I think ...

Ooh here's something from The Guardian's blog, a comment someone made:

"I was thinking about the Halloween party where it all started and the fact that Nanna went as Madam Mim, the witch from Disney's Donald Duck movie (as Meyer reminded us!), but originally of course the sorceress from The Sword and The Stone. In that story Mim is a shape shifter who appears as different things to different people and causes havoc for Walt, the young King Arthur. Have the writers put that in as a clue to what Nanna Birk Larsen was like, ie did she appear as a different person to different people (like Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks and Agnes in The Woman In Question), maybe even using different names. Eg she was a sweet innocent girl to her mum, a sexy flirt to her boyfriend, a wild party-goer at the club where she worked, a conscientious scholar to her teacher and so on."

trickquestion · 12/03/2011 18:33

atswim - no DH hasn't been outside all week (although tempting!). I live in a small northern market town and was sure I saw Morten in the street today, so yes, unhealthily obsessed.

Fivecentsplease · 12/03/2011 19:05

Love the Guardian bit, atswim - I think that really is the gist of it - and the writer is, after all, a writer, so would not be able to resist that analogy. BTW, steam mops are fit for nothing except selling on 'as new':

trickquestion, I suffer in the same certifiable way - went to DS1s parent evening and found a Dad who looked like Troels. Yikes.Did you follow Mortenn?

Fivecentsplease · 12/03/2011 19:05

Mush is still hot in the pan. Worried it won't be cold in time.
