Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

Lulabellarama I introduced 2 friends to The Wire, and Spiral. I'm only sorry I didn't know about Wallander when it was on. Bet I'd have loved it.

Might have to rewatch the bit where Bengt gives his opinion on the suspect to Lund. Just to make sure my facts are accurate, you understand, not for any other reason Wink

Highlander · 07/03/2011 14:00

ooh, is someone suggesting that there will be The Killing 2??

Shock that is a very interesting theory Lulubellarama about the hunting(strokes chin pensively) I agree that Nanna's rape & murder is a step too far in the political game, but that Bremer is taking the opportunity to link it to Troels and ruin his career & also knows who dunnit. I can't wait to see how it all unravels. It would make sense that it was organised by several people, the way the evidence was obliterated etc.

I have also wondered how the driver of the car got out of the water having left Nanna to drown? Or did he (she?them?) push the car off the bridge? How did they then get away from the scene, which is isolated? They can't have been on their own really.
Bengt said to go back to the car didn't he, but Lund only found out about the petrol tank...leading her to the CCTV footage at the petrol station which was a false lead. Maybe she needs to go back there... Finbar think yu should start there as Lund has lost it abit Smile

Glad to hear you're mostly Wire fans too...anyone see Idris Elba in The Big C on Thursday?! (drools)

atswimtwolengths · 07/03/2011 14:36

Just got to page 9 but bursting to join in on this!

1 The boots - did you notice that Morten had new shoes in the first episode (I think)? Why have they done nothing about the boots? They looked unusual and it would be relatively easy to find out where they came from and probably who paid for them.

2 The library books - why did she return them to her teacher at midnight?

3 The girl's bike - the police said they'd found her bike at the teacher's house. We weren't shown that (were we?) Why would she leave the bike there?

4 I think there's a group of sexual predators (who are not necessarily linked to the murder.) I think they are going to Latvia for sex - probably underage. Don't forget the victim was a schoolgirl. I think the mayor, the leader of the coalition (with greasy hair), the mayor's press adviser and probably (a hunch here) the new police chief were involved in it.

5 I don't think that the perpetrator is going to be new on the scene now.

6 Troells is gorgeous. It's hard to believe there were no rumours about him being on that site.

7 I'd forgotten about the girl running through the woods - thanks, whoever reminded me - even though it's on every episode! How, then, could she have died in the flat? Was she running, then caught, then taken to the flat? Wouldn't attention have been drawn to her then?

Gah! I love this programme! It's the best since Wallander, and far better because of the tension. And knowing the answer is on Wikipedia just TORMENTING me doesn't help!

atswimtwolengths · 07/03/2011 14:38

Oh meant to say:

Yes, the landlord thing was very suspicious. I wondered whether the dad was feeling guilty because he knew it was retribution for whatever he'd done. He does look guilty, doesn't he? Not of the murder, but of something.

cornerstone75 · 07/03/2011 14:41

Hi atswimtwolengths!

I didn't notice the new shoes! Good point on the boots too.

That thing about her being a schoolgirl - maybe a Danish MN'er could explain this, as she was 19 wasn't she? For a while I couldn't work out if it was a school or a uni, but you're right it is a school.

On number 7) she died in the car, which was trawled out of the lake in the woods. But she was held for up to 2 days somewhere before that, somewhere with a concrete floor as she had sores on her legs from lying on a hard surface. So the chase scene at the start of each episode would have been before she was tied up and put in the car.

Oh nooo, have managed not to wikipedia this yet but so tempted! Getting a bit too involved!!

wigwam1973 · 07/03/2011 14:42

Idris Elba is fine (said in west baltimore accent). Still can't believe Stringer Bell is no more, and that Idris Elba is from Hackney. Haven't heard of The Big C. Would you recommend?

Good point about the car/escape. Hadn't thought of that.

The implication is the letting go and hunting her was all part of the thrill (according to Bengt). It was deliberate. So chase/hunt thing is important. And I had kind of thought along the lines of someone further up the thread that this was some sort of game or something....So timeline goes:

  1. attack in flat
  2. taken elsewhere (drugged), attacked. Left on floor.
  3. released and hunted.
  4. recaptured and dumped in car.
When did the cleaning up happen and where???
cornerstone75 · 07/03/2011 14:49

wigwam1973 Yes, I very much recommend! A world apart from the Wire and this prog, but still good in it's own kooky way. I was not expecting Idris Elba to show up, very nice surprise. I agree that he is mighty fine, I was like "Sheeeiiitt!" Grin I miss the Wire

cornerstone75 · 07/03/2011 14:53

Yep - lulubellarama the man in the woods did have goggles - I seem to recall a full body suit?! and I forgot the attack in the flat before being moved to the other place (avec concrete floor)

Bengt said it wasn't a crime of passion, it was planned. The crimescene at the flat looks the opposite though doesn't it? And left that way, to frame Troels maybe? So many questions..

atswimtwolengths · 07/03/2011 15:01

Oh now you've all given me MORE to think about!

The flat wouldn't have had a concrete floor, would it? Troell's holiday cottage did have a room with a concrete floor, but no blood was found there.

I gasped out loud at the chase/hunt with the sexual predators. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh hadn't thought of THAT! Trouble is they don't look like they could run far.

If she'd been attacked and raped and held for two days, could she really have run that fast?

atswimtwolengths · 07/03/2011 15:02

I have to admit, I'm absolutely hooked on this. It preoccupies my mind constantly! I watch it with a friend and don't know anyone else who's seen it - so frustrating as I'm always dying to talk about it.

cornerstone75 · 07/03/2011 15:08

Grin atswimtwolengths me too, and funnily enough I can't persuade any of my friends or DH to watch 14 hours of a Danish thriller on iplayer to catch up...no idea why!

Really love the idea of the victim being Pernille's and Troell's child.

I remember vaguely that she isn't Theiss's (sp?) daughter - can't remember when that came up.

The long look between Pernille and Troell, though, was because she suspected him and he knew he was a suspect, wasn't it?

atswimtwolengths · 07/03/2011 15:11

Sorry, keep making up the spelling for the Mayor of Education!

Good idea, Lula. We're all focusing on the Friday night, when it should be the Saturday night that matters.

Were all the men meant to be in Latvia on that night?

The leader of the Coalition Party got very shifty about which hotel they'd booked into - just minutes before Lund found the car.

What was that about the missing purse and keys? Didn't notice that.

Why doesn't she carry latex gloves with her? She messes up all evidence!

cornerstone75 · 07/03/2011 15:17

Shock lula what a theory! I love this thread. Must extricate myself now as LO has awoken

It's only (I think) a theory that Nanna is not Theis' child - I am fairly sure that hasn't been catagorically stated. Certinly there is an age gap between her and the boys, but it hasn't been made clear why.

bettys · 07/03/2011 15:47

Right, back to the jumper!
Thanks staranise I have bookmarked that on Ravelry though I don't know if I'm up to adding stars instead of owls..quite like the owls. Is the wool itchy?

A time goes on I'm beginning to find Meyer quite likeable & endearing with his bananas and apples.

jammietart · 07/03/2011 15:55

lullabellarama I had the same thought re hunting when Oliver's Dad was first mentioned. Like the ultimate sport for some sick minded executives.

The fact that Lund didn't ever follow up on Nanna's designer boots has always annoyed me. That and the missing girls file. Has she not been back to her desk since episode 12?!

But I still think it is Morten. I think he has a great political mind but has always been over shadowed by Troels. He murdered Nanna for his own 'pleasure' but framed Troels for fun.
