Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

elliott · 06/03/2011 20:36

Yay! I said it was something to do with Holck!!
And yes agree that there will be Latvian victims
But now also wondering about Bengt...and also agree that Rie has got to be involved in something dodgy...
But still confused about how setting up Troels fits with the serial killer plot. I have a nasty feeling that the ending is going to be less satisfactory than the journey Smile

bettys · 06/03/2011 20:50

Here's a pattern for the other jumper - in Danish Grin

I can't wait for Sarah to look in the file on other women.

And was the girl who attacked Theis Nanna's friend?

Habbibu · 06/03/2011 20:50

We're a Discussion Of The Day!!!!!!

GoodnightNobody · 06/03/2011 20:53

All the men have very similar paunches.

why?

staranise · 06/03/2011 21:06

hmm...thanks bettys! I'm going to adapt this one as it's (a) in English and (b) I've knitted it before and it's easy! I'll add a patterned yoke rather than owls.

Now all I need are some depressing Danish landscapes to wear it in.

Blackduck · 06/03/2011 21:15

I love the way this thread veers from:
a. whodonit
to
b. her sweater
to
c. the men
makes me :)

I love the way everyone is impacted by the case and things are unravelling (but not Lund's sweater ;))....
What had Olav realised when he spoke to Bremer - it felt like more tha a simple 'I've been had' moment.
And the scene in the cottage where Lund and Meyer were in the same wavelength and he just got what she was thinking....loving it!

wigwam1973 · 06/03/2011 21:37

bettys, just looked at the pattern (not that I could knit it). Not liking the red version at all - the original one by far the best.

Now wondering if Lund is in the second series, and if so, does she have a new jumper? I can't see her getting it on with Meyer. His ears stick out too much, and, well, why would you if you have Bengt in his polar pine sauna (even if it is in rural Sweden)?

Haven't come up with any new theories since yesterday, unless Holk and Bremer are in it together (although his reaction to Olav's questions seemed pretty genuine to me).

cornerstone75 · 06/03/2011 21:56

Ooh hello everyone
Just caught up on Sky+ finally

Can't believe I am saying this, but poor Olav, his death scene was v.sad. I think Bremer knew what Olav was trying to talk to him about, and Blackduck maybe that look was that realisation, that he knew but he would never be tied to it.
There is such a sense of a big conspiracy at work now, with the money Olav was getting now being (falsely?) linked to Troels, and Olav's death, it feels like a massive set up by Bremer's party to get Troels out of parliament (government? Politics never my strong point) and esp. with Brix's insistence that they find evidence that Nanna was at the cottage when she obvs wasn't!

Poor old Theis...bettys I don't think the girl (in the gang that attacked him) was Nanna's friend, I think he was just taken aback that it was a girl that he nearly decked. Poor Pernille too Sad

I rather like Troels's wee paunch, it's zexy Grin Think DH noticed me perving when he changed his shirt!

Have had a feeling from when Holck (he of the v-necked jumpers) was introduced that it was him, but agree that now it seems too soon for it to be him. V.worried for Lund! Why does she insist on leaving her keys in the ignition?!

teej I think I may be stealing "ugly old shagaround...with baggage" as my new put-down of choice!

staranise · 06/03/2011 22:01

Ooh, i've jsut looked at the trailer for the US version coming out in April - it looks exactly the same as the Danish one, even down to the woolly jumpers. The American politicain isn't a patch on Troels though.

There's also lots of info about The Killing 2 if anyone wants a look at who's in it...

Margles · 07/03/2011 01:22

No Troels in the second one though (sigh)

Stokey38 · 07/03/2011 07:53

I feel so sorry for Pernille and Theis but I have to say that it's a bit much everyone telling her to move on when Nanna was only murdered two weeks ago. I wanted to cry seeing Theis eating his soup in his Superman t-shirt.

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/03/2011 08:12

Rats... Just discovered The Killing thanks to MNEt... but on BBC iPlayer the episodes start at Episode 2.... any idea where I can find episode 1?

Blackduck · 07/03/2011 08:15

I think was is so great about the Pernille and Theis storyline is how authentic it feels. The sense that no one really knows what to say and that the two people involved most closely can't seem to help each other. I felt so sorry for Theis. And the bit at the graveside was eerie. Was there someone watching who had sent the wreath, or was it from the guys as Vagn said, or is she losing the plot a bit....
I am also now worried that those kids have got Theis' keys.....

Blackduck · 07/03/2011 08:34

They take them off after a limited number of days - I'd watch two and we'll fill you in with anything you need to know!!

MsFaithless · 07/03/2011 08:37

Knitter I've had a quick search and can't find it anywhere unfortuately. Why on earth is the iPlayer starting at episode 2, that's just cruel!

Perhaps they'll start showing it again?

Watching saturdays episodes tonight so am backing out of the thread lest I find out about an important plot twist...

MsFaithless · 07/03/2011 08:47

Anyone been following the Guardian blog?

It goes episode by episode giving a round up of the facts so far followed by wild speculation chat/theories

The Killing What do We Know so far?

The Killing: episodes 13 and 14

Sorry if this has been posted up thread but am avioding in case of spoilers

[Danish crime drama geek emoticon]

Finbar · 07/03/2011 09:42

Agree with Blackduck - who was that wreath from? Vagn really?
Or maybe Theis sent it before he hit the drink?

Holk looks too ineffectual to do anything.

Why would you leave your scene of a suicide attempt not tidied up especially if it is such a terrible secret? Surely Morten would have sorted it.

Also Charlotte said that the affair with the secret man was petering out andNan had said goodbye before he went away....perhaps on the Latvia trip.

Finbar · 07/03/2011 09:44

Nanna that is, not Nan ( arf!)

teej · 07/03/2011 11:01

oh! we're discussion of the day think this might be my first time Hmm right long post to catch up - sorry!

fivecents - like the idea of a Lund/Wallander jobswap to tie up the case!

as mentioned by many of you - Lund's failing instinct and the cottage scene are two of the major inconsistencies in the plot. there may be a case for saying that Lund's failing is a reflection of the turmoil in her personal life, she isn't 100% focused on the job. but other than that it fits within the norm in the genre - not even Holmes/ Marple/ Poirot etc were perfect otherwise the cases would be wrapped up pretty quickly! the cottage not being cleared i think we just have to accept as a convenient part of the plot.

staranise welcome to the MN Killing choir, to be found chanting "look at the ruggy file, look at the ruddy books" every saturday night (or thereabouts thanks to iplayer)
kind of like a modern day gregorian chant...

knitter be honest, it's the starring role for the jumper that attracted you, isn't it?!
wrt the first episode, that is bizarre as epi 1 and 2 ran together, so either both should be there or neither. agree with Blackduck - watch 2 before it goes and we can fill you in.

elliot well done on the Holck hit! bit sad i was right about troels, albeit wrong about the method/place. but noooooo the lovely Bengt would have nothing to do with such horrors!!!! isn't that right wigwam?!

Blackduck great summary of the key attractions of this series Wink

margles no troels?! please don't say no bengt either!

cornerstone you're welcome, glad to have been of service Grin

stokey agree they have really done a great job of following pernille, theis and the boys. i think the point re Pernille is that her inability to move on at all is having an impact on the rest of the family. she has already been told the price another person had to pay because they could not move on from their grief. i think they are just trying to shock her out of that phase rather than telling her she should not be grieving ifkwim.

gah have to get back to work - to everyone else

InmyheadIminParis · 07/03/2011 11:22

Ooh have only just seen this thread - can I join in too?

I agree, staranise - Lund hasn't looked at the file yet, and she seems to have forgotten everything her boyfirend said about needing to find the other unsolved cases.

Felt heartbroken for Pernille yesterday - and Theis eating his soup

Glad I'm not the only one nursing a Troels crush.

Finbar · 07/03/2011 12:18

Hey Lund - send those files to me - I have day off work today and would be glad to be of assistance; you can have a full report on your desk in the morning ( isn't that what they usually say?!)

Oh, I love this thread!

Just a quickie though. Do we think Lund and Troels were actually properly flirting before he spilt his wine and then found out she knew he didn't have an alibi? Or was she just trying to pump him for more information. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but she looked prettier in that scene at the kitchen table - better lighting or something. Maybe just because she wasn't frowning/pensive. Because then did make that comment about how far would she go to get the truth i.e. would they end of in bed etc.

Sorry, not really essential to the plot, but of interest none-the-less. Please tell me that Troels ditches evil Bree before the end.

And Teej, I agree, the lovely (and very handsome) Bengt could never in a million years be a villain or baddie. He is a great, very clever man - I wonder if I could fly over to Copenhagen and attend a few of his classes. Might not understand a word, but could just ogle.

lulabellarama I have been telling all my friends about 'The Killing'. They all think I'm a bit sad. I think someone on this thread mentioned the Oliver's father theory before. It does sound plausible - but does that fit in with the lovely Bengt's profile of the killer (working alone? might be making that bit up).

Back to parenting duties. Will mull over some more while watching DS swimming later.

Katenotts · 07/03/2011 13:32

I've just watched the first two episodes on 'on demand'. My mum started watching early afternoon and has managed to watch nearly the whole series, but she is retired and fed up with my lazy dad who is a 'film buff' ie just watches films and does nothing else all the time.

I think there's something going on with Theis's (is that the father's name) right hand man, but my DP says that would not make for a good political thriller, so maybe I should keep my hunches to myself!
