Seeing as everyone's so up on their vampires and werewolves, has anyone read the Soulless series (Gail Carriger)? I don't know anyone else who's read it yet, and it's very interesting alternative universe. I linked to the wiki entry, as her page is slightly annoying.

JackieNo · 01/02/2011 20:29

Plupervert - haven't heard of her, but it all sounds interesting; I particularly like the look of the list of her influences, on the wikipedia page.

plupervert · 01/02/2011 21:17

Well, if you do read anything, do let me know! She can be a bit arch, but the plotting is great fun. (Disclaimer: I am not connected to her or her publisher/agent!)

I wonder whether the problem with BH this season is the banality of the evil, to quote Hannah Arendt. The swinger vampires were just inane and now the "monthly curse" is a boon for George and Nina's sex life. Meanwhile, Annie is being relentlessly positive (as ever) and there isn't quite the poignancy of her cheeriness in the face of her ex's betrayal (I can't remember his name). Last season, Mitchell had some very terrible conflicts, deepest of which I think was letting Ivan feed secretly, in order to be able to present a "senior" vampire "on the wagon" to the younger ones whom Mitchell wanted to influence. This season, Mitchell scarcely broke a sweat in Purgatory.

I also found episode 2 rather slow. I think it's becuase Episode 1 had such great turns from Lacey Turner and Robson Green and then this week there was nothing really standout. Also wondering where Herrick is!

I was concerned about the whole Annie/Mitchell thing and I'm not getting any less so. I don't think I like that plot - George and Nina do it better and Annie is wasted mooning around the place.

Fingers crossed for better this week (and Herrick!)

Ria28 · 03/02/2011 16:12

Has anyone else seen Annie/Mitchell coming since series 1?

KayHarker · 04/02/2011 11:46

So much so I wrote fan fic about it, Ria. I'm a happy bunny about it all, and have enjoyed series three so far.

Squitten · 06/02/2011 22:17

So were we watching episode 3?

Wolf babies!! Grin Finally the story starts to pick up and looking forward to the return of McNair and son. Loved zombie girl, very sad at the end there.

Annie and Mitchell continues to disappoint me I'm afraid - and I'm a Mitchell fan so that's tough...

And WHERE is Herrick already?!

blackletterday · 06/02/2011 22:21

I loved the pilot of this, but it has turned out so boring Sad.

wintera · 06/02/2011 22:29

There were hints about Herrick though tonight. That other vampire mentioned Cora and then said she had "been digging up trouble" which I took as a direct ref to Herrick.

Zombie girl was very sad at the end, very moving. I agree with the other poster above about seeing Mitchell and Annie coming from season one. They even had a moment in season one didn't they? Seem to remember them both sitting on the kitchen floor and nearly kissing or something.

I am enjoying this series, some very funny scenes. Loved the line "They're all grown ups, and two of them are dead!" from George to Mitchell when he was worried about the girls. However, Russell Tovey needs to start reigning in those facial expressions and double takes now. He's bordering on over-acting definitely.

wintera · 06/02/2011 22:32

Oh . . . . and Aidan Turner was exceptionally hot in that particular episode!!

Stilla · 06/02/2011 22:37

wintera so did I -the min he said she was digging up trouble I thought he has to be in it soon .

next weeks looks fab

Ceasnake · 06/02/2011 22:39

I thought this was a corking episode. The poor zombie's death speech at the end nearly made me cry (and it's not very often you hear that). Some great lines, too.

"It's Graham. Actually, when I crossed to the dark side, I took the name Obsidian. But Graham's fine."

"I only got up for a pee!"

For all the humour and pathos though, it still manages to shock. The bit on the train, where Graham tells Mitchell that he killed his own children - 'nothing seems quite real since then' - that was a real jolt.

EricNorthmansMistress · 07/02/2011 00:30

Mitchell....yuuuuummmmyyy

Mitchell and Annie - Grin

Hairy babies - GrinGrin

coldcomfortHeart · 07/02/2011 12:11

I thought that was the best episode so far of series 3- I liked the line 'I thought we were meant to be the scary ones!'- that yucky zombie girl made me jump loads. Cara ref and digging up trouble definitely a hint at Herrick.

Agree about the lines that shock and stand out. Mix of funny, sad, ('tell people you liked me') scary and unsettling, a return to form.

And of course I'm most pleased about the wolf babies!

GothMummy · 07/02/2011 12:36

I have never found any episode of Being Human remotely disturbing or scary (but loved loved loved it always) but the poor zombie girl one really shook me up and I had bad dreams all night. I just thought, you know, I bet if corpses did reanimate in the mortuary, people really would do experiments on them in such a horrific way.

I love the way they focus on the banal amid the spooky in Being Human. Washing up fights and taking a dead girl to a night club. Thats what makes it so special (that and Mitchell!)

The Graham/Obsidian obsidian bit was funny-sad.

susiedaisy · 07/02/2011 21:31

yeap agree with other posters i loved last nights episode, and mitchell looked lush!!

JackieNo · 08/02/2011 12:57

Enjoyed it. They really manipulated us with the zombie girl popping up all over the place. Made me jump every time. Strangely, I really don't want Mitchell and Annie to get together (I prefer the tension, I think, and the will they/won't they), and didn't really get into the kiss - just didn't work for me.

Beertrickspotter - I didnt think of it like that but thats a very interesting take on it. I was thinking that truely, humans are the real monsters. All the zombie/vampire/werewolf/ghost stuff in the world cant scare me but what people do to other people

Stilla · 12/02/2011 11:58

For the Being Human fan with a birthday Grin

JackieNo · 12/02/2011 21:14

Stilla - loving those cards Grin.

EricNorthmansMistress · 13/02/2011 21:52

Ok - what deal did Mitchel doo with the swinger vampire? Did he betray Nina and George??? Shock

How come Annie can kiss Mitchell but not shag him?

EricNorthmansMistress · 13/02/2011 21:53

Mitchell do
