It doesn't make you laugh, but it is getting more subtle and complex by the minute.
I loved the way Peggy looked at Pete through the glass as she went off with her hip friends regret, hope closure, and the way Peggy refused to admit she had ever been in Alison's shoes (although she had), and the way Don bumps into the elderly married couple bickering about pears.
I love the way it is Alison who is the first to make Don face up to his problems with women. He thinks of himself as kind and caring and respectful. I love the Ponds - all women want to get married --- stuff.
Each episode is like a mini-play.

Right I think that Megan was exactly what the his lawyer was talking about when he said 'you want to come home to a steak on the table'. Megan also made the kids happy, he noted that with the 'Von Trapp' comment.
He was emotionally tied up with the death of his friend. She appears to be straight forward and uncomplicated. The Doc was getting too heavy and he wasn't experiencing happy times with her. She wasn't coping with the thought of the children. he wasn't happy with the Heinz deal, two-timing her and that she lost her job becuase of the newspaper advert. So she did nothing wrong but everything around her was wrong. I think at the last moment it dawn on him he wasn't in love with Megan, just in love with the American Dream.
Love the Peggy story line. The 'Model' who got harry's attention Ha!ha! Fact he didn't notice that she might be gay.
Peggy nailing the deal and giving Ken an odd look when he had no idea what he was talking about!
The metaphorical talk from Don...'I love you like a sister....that pissed her off.
The chat with Joan was top rate, they now have been through so much together, will never be best mates but it will turn out to be a very important relationship for them both.
The fact we knew Joan had kept the baby and passing it off as her husbands!Shock
Love it Love it..... Now where is di I put the Sky contract....Oh! I need a pen too Grin

Nuttybear · 03/12/2010 09:53

Ops! I think Megan is also trying to follow in Peggy's foot steps but sleeping her way there but..... I think she'll surprise & piss off Peggy with getting the attention (when she gets those teeth sraighted!) and having some good ideas. That also pissed Peggy off that only marriage and being pretty matters! Now I must do some house work Grin Over to the fly thread!

TheFoosa · 03/12/2010 12:04

isn't Joan's husband a Dr? how can he believe that it's his baby, he's been away ages

swanriver · 03/12/2010 12:43

She hasn't told him the true due date, hence his comment that it must be showing already and how will she conceal in office. If I remember he wasn't a gynaecologist or obstetric doctor, and not that good a doctor either...

Why is Dr Faye soo much more sympathetic than Megan - or is that just me? I found the bit where Betty sees Don take the whisky bottle from the secret place in back of kitchen cupboard and is smiling, very sad.. Of course she knows far more about Don than Megan, even though Megan makes that comment that she knows everything about him (or was that Don)
It is soo sad. Why can't they just get back together again.... Or at very least he should have stuck to Dr Faye.

No,No, he would just break her heart later. Dr Faye needs someone better than Don.
I think Joan's husband was only away for a few weeks before the event with what's his face. I think he'll help her cover up and say the baby was born early! I think that's what they did in those days. Smile
Betty is even more screwed up than Don and we all know it.

swanriver · 03/12/2010 16:12

But Don didn't let her breathe before, she was stuck in his stereotype of how she should be. Now she has broken free, and it is her chance to be a new person, but for some reason she can't enjoy it. That's what is so sad. I suppose we all think other people drag us down (in this case Betty believes Sally is root of her difficulties in new life married to Henry, and by extension this is because Sally is Don's daughter, so she blames Don for any trouble that exists in present relationship)

I suppose the whole thing is a frightening parable - there are 1000s of people we could be happy with, the only person we can't change who will always make us happy/unhappy is ourself.

back to the glitter and pompons now Hmm

OH MY GOD I HADNT TWIGGED ABOUT THE BABY

oh my god
I HTOUGHt she was just making it up then would "miscarry"

agree about california, love the scenes there and love don there - very perceptive thought.
agree about the doctor being too much of a challenge for him- after all he wants a mother

was betty ready to seduce him in the scarily plaid kitchen?

WikiFreak · 03/12/2010 16:15

i thought the falling in love was utterly convincing

WikiFreak · 03/12/2010 16:18

the milkshake thing was so different

WikiFreak · 03/12/2010 16:30

this is interestING

DukesOfTripHazard · 03/12/2010 22:20

Thanks for the link WikiFreak. I was gobsmacked by the proposal but the milkshake was a huge moment and I plan to channel Megan forever in that kind of situation.

Ha fecking ha.

ibangthedrums · 04/12/2010 19:16

Hopefully she will turn into a shreiking harridan aka normal person soon.

She makes me feel rubbish - we need more people like Betty who always makes me feel like a great Mother.

Really good series, MM is such as well written, well acted programme. The look between Don, Bobby and Sally during the milkshake scene was priceless

Nuttybear · 04/12/2010 20:22

Milkshake moment was brillant, that was the the build up to 'what a lovely wife Megan would make' moment for Don.

thegirlwiththemouseyhair · 05/12/2010 22:00

Deeply sad that the end of the series came round so quickly.

I loved that Don proposing to Megan was SO wrong. Completely destableising (sp?) when he was having what at first appeared to be an equal adult relationship with Faye.

So now we wait for months wondering what the hell that was all about.

Excellent end to the series.
Who's not going to keep watching after that?
