It doesn't make you laugh, but it is getting more subtle and complex by the minute.
I loved the way Peggy looked at Pete through the glass as she went off with her hip friends regret, hope closure, and the way Peggy refused to admit she had ever been in Alison's shoes (although she had), and the way Don bumps into the elderly married couple bickering about pears.
I love the way it is Alison who is the first to make Don face up to his problems with women. He thinks of himself as kind and caring and respectful. I love the Ponds - all women want to get married --- stuff.
Each episode is like a mini-play.

southeastastr I think Megan want to sleep her way into a job like Peggy. Do you think she'll get those teeth done? >
I did love the bit with the little guy putting his hand up Te He!

swanriver · 18/11/2010 23:09

I think the bit with Peggy and new boyfriend was just very sweet andSmile romantic. I was smiling on the sofa an inane smile, dh got quite cross with me.
I thought bit with secretary just toe-curling.

And so sad the way Dr whatever her name is wanted to please Don and gave him the inside stuff on Heinz, instead of sticking to her guns. Like giving in to a toddler having a hissy fit and apologising to said toddler.

I am so desperate to join this thread as I adore this show... but I am behind everyone else, only midway thru season 2 boxset! I am getting S3 for Christmas. I would love to read what people think and discuss the show - it's truly fab. Will come back later to avoid too many spoilers (I already know about the divorce but nothing else!)

VinaApsara · 19/11/2010 22:01

Try the Guardian blog vanitypear. I can't wait to get on there after the show and read all the comments - it really adds to my appreciation and enjoyment of the show

TheFoosa · 20/11/2010 14:22

Roger's book is REAL

although out of stock

swanriver · 25/11/2010 12:02

Addicts here if you lost us!

Speaking of addicts...brilliant but schematic this week.
Women not supporting women (Betty, Don's girlfriend)v. women supporting women (Peggy, child pysch)
Addicts/free wheeling/creative spark (Don, Roger, the heroin heroine = release, conscience, free speech, disaster, downfall, collapse, breakthrough
Non addicts/controlling/conventional (Betty, Trudy) = tension lockdown anger, also stability, family values, protection, safety.

Betty is being so awful to Sally Sad She clearly wants Sally to be bad. Sally is her alter ego, her bad self. When she sees Sally as bad, she feels she is the good Betty.

Also what a sweet smile Don has - so goofy at the end..but the chilling comment of girlfriend."have your girl make reservations" putting down secretary Sad Does she smell a rat?

CheeseCheese · 26/11/2010 17:41

no the "have your girl" thing was because tehir relationship is now open
ooh i thought of a relaly interesting point yesterday i had forgotten.
LOVED the addiction/dealer thing with Midge and Lucky strike

CheeseCheese · 26/11/2010 17:42

and Don having to BUY Pete out - loved that bit too

CheeseCheese · 26/11/2010 17:54

and LOVED the shenanigans ref ( ref back to sugar thingyy hams)

mustdash · 26/11/2010 17:59

Roger's book is back in stock. That's DHs christmas sorted then.

swanriver · 27/11/2010 23:59

But Cheese, wasn't he protecting Pete's family by buying him out? Don wants to be on side of safety now not risk. I don't think he was putting Pete down, just being "fatherly"...
Or maybe as you say, more to it.
Saying - this is my poker game- you can't take the credit if I win...

Do you mean the bit when they pretend to have a fight over a ham? Confused

I thought the "girl" was a reference to the fact that she was his secretary, not his girlfriend (servantlike ref to girl) when she is woman...

I think Don will end up with the secretary, Dr Faye knows him too well and has seen him at his worst so he'll move on very soon.

Nuttybear · 01/12/2010 14:51

Oh! so much to say so little time! Back later with thoughts if school play costume and sewing Beavers badges don't take over!
Hey! we should all meet up in a cocktail bar some where and discuss this all night until our DH's suspect we are out with another man!
Do you think I don't have enough drama in my life Hmm

Matsikula · 02/12/2010 09:17

Great episode last night. I love the way that everything moves gradually towards the groovy part of the 60s, and then takes a huge leap every time Don goes to California.

In fact, I think it's California Don is in love with, not Megan. He's a different man every time he goes - much more relaxed and open. But then again, he is also literally a different man there: Dick.

Loved the scene with Peggy and Joan last night. Seemed like the first time they've ever really got on. Hope they can be friends as they have a lot to learn from one another.

Nuttybear · 02/12/2010 13:14

La La la not listening haven't seen it yet looking forward to DH going to the pub! Hope he doesn't stay in 'cause of the snow! Grin

swanriver · 02/12/2010 14:23

I felt so sorry for you know who, and also you know who 2...Sad I can see she's lovely, but talk about the newer model...Sad
anyone over 40 wll be devastated by this plotline Angry
but I like the comparison of Don's sit with that of Joan who is realising Boring husband is better than Racy Roger.
Oh Betty, I want to just tell you are wonderful and not to be angry all the time Sad with yourself. [seeks inner child]

Nuttybear · 02/12/2010 23:03

yep! DH asked if I wanted Sky to watch it, hoping I would say yes so he can have sport ALL the time! I said no I can get the box set. he was gutted. I've watched it now Swan Would it be okay everyone if i name names and have some plot spoliers? It was fab! Wonder if I can watch at someones else house when they have it on Sky!

Nuttybear · 02/12/2010 23:04

Ops! Not made sense as I haven't got my glasses on squinted and saw I balls up the last post. But what I meant was... can I chat about the programme now?

swanriver · 02/12/2010 23:43

Yes! but too late - I'm off to bed now...
and tomorrow I shall be knee deep in cellophane

I am feeling more and more uneasy about Don's decision. Is something going to tip over?
