Mad Men - amazing stuff

It doesn't make you laugh, but it is getting more subtle and complex by the minute.
I loved the way Peggy looked at Pete through the glass as she went off with her hip friends regret, hope closure, and the way Peggy refused to admit she had ever been in Alison's shoes (although she had), and the way Don bumps into the elderly married couple bickering about pears.
I love the way it is Alison who is the first to make Don face up to his problems with women. He thinks of himself as kind and caring and respectful. I love the Ponds - all women want to get married --- stuff.
Each episode is like a mini-play.

on one of those stalls in indoor shopping centres, should have bought it really

Nuttybear · 30/10/2010 21:36

Thank you

Nuttybear · 04/11/2010 23:28

Wow Just watched this weeks episode. Loved the closing shot. To me it said 'So you thought this story was about the Men!. Ha!

icapturethecastle · 04/11/2010 23:41

It is just so brilliant - such a treat. I want to know more about all of them especially Peggy - 45 minutes is just not long enough. Also love reading all the online reviews where they dissect the episode - just been reading some on last nights.

Nuttybear · 05/11/2010 09:18

icapture Which reviews do you read? I can then extend my enjoyment Smile

Matsikula · 05/11/2010 09:56

I warn you, if you start with the reviews, soon you'll be on the plot spoilers. Did it a couple of weeks ago and I still feel dirty and ashamed.

Nuttybear · 05/11/2010 13:06

Shock maybe I could save them to read them next year!

icapturethecastle · 05/11/2010 18:19

Yes Matsiklua - last night I looked up some of the links above and read all the episode guides until the season 4 finale - why did I do it but once I had started couldn't stop. Nuttybear I just google and read all different ones from newpaper reviews to blogs - love all the differnt takes but then I am obsessed.

icapturethecastle · 05/11/2010 18:22

sorry Matsikula - spelling/typing not my strong point!

MsInterpret · 06/11/2010 20:39

This blog is in time with the BBC4 episodes so no spoilers Wink

Nuttybear · 07/11/2010 13:32

Thank you Ms

swanriver · 10/11/2010 23:16

I think Joan kept the baby...I'm sure she did.
secrets secrets
so relieved Sally got her tickets, was much more worried about that than the loss of the Big Accounts.
Roger is looking more and more pathetic.
I love the depiction of these infantile men, needing combination of bunnies, baby dolls and sharp rap with a walking stick to bring them to their senses.
Betty and Don are getting less aggressive to each other.
Horrible irony of Mr Francis entering world of surveillance, not what Betty needs surely?

I also loved the bit where Don said sharply to his girlfriend "you're not a real doctor you know" as if she was pretending to be someone like he was Shock
I loved Betty and Sally actually being nice to each other Smile after her curt "Sally come here"

Swan I haven't seen it yet but you haven't spoilt just looking forward to watching it while DS is in bed and DH out.
A hairdresser is going to give me that gentle beehive up do thing for a fashnion thing at school. Soo looking forward to it. I won't look as fab as Joan but Hey!

bettymoody · 11/11/2010 13:52

are oyu talking last nighi? i havent seen yet

bettymoody · 11/11/2010 13:53

will go and read blog

MsInterpret · 11/11/2010 15:23

swanriver yes Betty's genuine delight in the Beatles tickets for Sally was so lovely to see.

A really interesting episode - so much going on! Feels like it's building to something big. Who thinks the agency will collapse? Will Don escape scot-free? Can't decide whether I agree about the Joan thing. I thought she had kept it on the coach home but then why hide that from Roger? Just to keep us in suspense?

Yes, I think she kept it too!

thegirlwiththemouseyhair · 11/11/2010 23:08

Ooh it's all getting very messy....

BUT how did Pete know about Don?
I don't remember that.
Hey ho might have watch them all again Smile

Nuttybear · 12/11/2010 09:50

Spolier message Watched it last night. I have to say if the story doesn't have Peggy I go off it a little.
So many questions

  1. How did Pete know about Don?
  2. Has Joan kept the baby?
  3. Didn't Trudy look shocking in her pink babydoll nighty! Would they really have worn that I don't thinks so
  4. When will they discover Rogers lost the big account?
  5. Will Lane dump his girlfriend or will he come back to her?
How many more programes to go before the end of the series?
notjustapotforsoup · 12/11/2010 09:57

Don's brother (Adam) sent Don a shoebox with photos etc in it to his office and Pete opened it. This was in Season 1. Pete then threatened to out him to Bert, Don called his bluff, Bert didn't care. Don then took the box home and put it in the Drawer of Doom in his desk and Betty found it.

I am wondering if Joan kept the baby as well. It's all too exciting.

I am still trying to work out why Don's security check went pear-shaped. I thought he was using all of the real Don Draper's info.

Nuttybear · 12/11/2010 10:13

not OH! Yes I remember now, thank you.
No, he hasn't been found out but if they do a good background check he doesn't know if they are going to contact the real Don Draper's family, college, Doc etc... When I joined the Police Force here. They wanted to know my Grandparents details! and checked Brothers details (he smashed a window when he was 16 years!) Does he know all of Don drapers info now that his wife is dead!

notjustapotforsoup · 12/11/2010 10:18

It was mentioned that his birthdate was wrong on the form, which seemed a little careless to me. I would have thought that an ad agency wouldn't need the whole kit and kaboodle clearance, so it's only kicking off because the basic info didn't match. I was wondering why it didn't.

I've asked on the Guardian blog, so will see what they say.

midnightexpress · 12/11/2010 10:18

I am wondering if Joan really has a 15 year old child....

I don't really understand the Don Draper backstory. He pretended to be someone else, but what about the real DD's family - presumably they think he's alive, but just never came back, is that right?

Nuttybear · 12/11/2010 10:22

Maybe wife covered it up!

Nuttybear · 12/11/2010 10:23

I think that's why he's so stressed it could all blow up in his face.
