Starts on Saturday!!
I can't find any contestant rumours other than Goldie, does anyone know of any?
Is Alesha back? can only find articles about her not signed contract yet.
No results show apparantly and new format for voting, can't wait - Winter is here.

One way to avoid the Jimi being kicked out scenario would be to only allow pubic voting on the bottom half of the leader board.

ITT explained the mystery of the lifts creeping in. No more say the judges!

vmcd I knew there was something familiar, just couldn't put my finger on it!

TigersChick · 08/11/2010 22:05

mummychicken - What did they say about the lifts? Can't watch ITT Sad

potplant · 08/11/2010 22:18

Tigers - it was Karen talking about them. Said that you can't do them in most of the dances and that Len said he was going to start penalising for illegal lifts.

Skillbo · 08/11/2010 22:47

Been reading for ages and can finally post - always forget this is here and then get sucked in! Always a great read!

Ok - my thoughts:

Am devestated that Jimi had left the competition - he was far and away my favourite and thought that his flashes of brilliance (his first dance was just full of joy) showed he could become a great dancer! He loved dancing and makes me sad to see him go!

I despise Ann - I hate her political views and really dislike the fact she has spun public opinion to see her a some sort of comedy figure when in reality she is simply a vile woman! FFS, invest in a decent bra - she is everything i hate about reality tv - wanna say fuck off and die, but that might be a bit strong Grin

With Jimi gone, I have to switch my allegiance to Scott - I don't really like Natalie, bit mannish (think it's the forehead) but Scott is so graceful! His viennese waltz was amazing!

Also loving a bit of Pamela but then I also love a bit of James... he makes me laugh!

Other than that, surprised how much I like Kara but some of her costumes have been a bit ho-like.. mind you, a lot of the costumes have been pretty invisible - Flav's creation this weekend was plain strange - what was with the scarf?

Brucie needs to retire, and soon! Did anyone else read Tom Chambers comments in the Sun, can't find the rubbish link now.. in a nutshell he said it was all so fake and he hated it. You had to smile at all times in Tess' area or it could effect voting, he didn't like Austin at all (some crap quote about taking him out but might have been a joke) and how he hated the tour (I wiki'd the results - yup, that lame - and it turned out he got his arse handed to him by Rachel & Vincent who won something ridiculous like 60 times whereas Tom and Camilla won twice!) I really disliked his smugness so am not surprised by his comments but strikes me as a bit disloyal somehow!

Anyways best head but am loving it, like every year! Just wish there was a Matt and an Ian [smile}

StableButDeluded · 09/11/2010 00:04

Well I'm just totally fed up of Anne Widdecombe in it now-you can only take so many 'comedy' routines.
She makes no attempt to dance anything properly, and now decent dancers are going while she's not even in the bottom two-ridiculous.

Who are these sad members of the public that find her so entertaining that they want to see the same old lame comedy dance every week?

They'll have to re-name it Strictly Come Do-As-You-Like' soon, cos she certainly aint trying to dance.

fartmeistergeneral · 09/11/2010 08:59

They have GOT to do something about that next year. Fair enough Anne was quite funny at the beginning, and I know it's an entertainment show as well as a dance competition - but Jimi was entertaining AND a good dancer.

I also find the voting a bit annoying. How can Gavin be given a 7 and eg Matt given an 8? Their dancing skills are poles apart.

Interesting comments about the tour. I'm going in February. Does anyone know how many sleb dancers take part?

CeliaFate · 09/11/2010 09:07

I think the rule should be if you're bottom of the leader board for 3 weeks running, you're out.

fartmeistergeneral · 09/11/2010 09:12

I agreed with Flavia on ITT, she was saying she just cannot understand how someone who was 4th on the leader board can then go out. I totally agree, I just don't get it. I can only imagine that people just forgot about Jimi and didn't vote for him, rather than actively not voting for him because they didn't think he was good enough. And for some unknown reason, people are getting carried away with Anne (her self deprecation is driving me mad, we get it, you think you're rubbish and an elephant). With her still in the competition, and the voting going the way it is, anything could happen. If Scott or Matt or Kara get voted off in favour of that woman, I will be very miffed indeed!

JannerBird · 09/11/2010 11:21

Maybe they should change the voting to a Big Brother style 'vote to evict'? So instead of voting for your favourite you vote for your least favourite.

Snowstorm · 09/11/2010 11:45

That's an excellent idea JannerBird but do you think they wouldn't do it because they'd expect a drop in voting calls/revenue? Also because at the moment they can say to the fragile celebs "Oh well never mind, it's not because you aren't popular and very much loved, it's because you were in that dangerous middle spot on the leaderboard' whereas your way would be a straight 'Okay, you are out because they hated you and your dancing'?!!

oxocube · 09/11/2010 14:14

fartmeistergeneral, I completely agree. The voting is ridiculous and an insult. The only way to change it though is by people refusing to vote until something is changed. I bet the BBC would be quick to listen if it affected their revenue Hmm

JannerBird · 09/11/2010 15:49

Although, after some more thought, voting for your least favourite may also result in someone at the top of the leader board going. Confused

What if the the judges scores and the public vote weren't given equal weighting, as they are now. Say 70/30.

potplant · 09/11/2010 16:09

the BBC don't actually make any money from the voting. The revenue covers production costs its not revenue generating That's why the cost of the call is so low compared to commercial stuff like X Factor and why voting is only open for such a short period of time.

Snowstorm · 09/11/2010 20:06

They should just bring back the dance-off really shouldn't they?

Skillbo · 09/11/2010 20:43

I liked the dance off as sometimes I would miss a dance in the live show but got to see it at results time so bring it back, I say!

Glad I am not the only Anne-hater!

Meant to comment on the judging last night... the judges seem to be watching something that I'm not as some dances seem really overmarked whilst others which I really enjoy get a bit slated. I also don't get the Gavin love - his chest isn't enough for me to overlook the rest of him - and I didn't actually like their dance at the weekend.. he got his highest mark though! I have to agree with Craig on a lot of bits but I've always thought he was the best judge (Len - too patronising, Arlene - too letchy, Bruno - too hysterical, Alesha - too Alesha) but he tends to tell it like it is. Don't think I'd like to be on the receiving end though (although of course I dream that one day I'll become famous enough to take part - perhaps through marrying Christian Slater and winning an oscar Grin. Anyway, I'm paired with Matthew Cutler and we shimmy and glide our way to the glitter ball whilst I drop 3 dress sizes and develop a waist to die for!! One day.....)

fartmeistergeneral · 10/11/2010 09:10

Why the 'Strictly' in Strictly Come Dancing?

potplant · 10/11/2010 09:19

Come Dancing was the old programme for professional dancing from the 70's (?).

Strictly refers to the film Strictly Ballroom that was out not long before the first series started. It's a bit of a joke.

vmcd28 · 10/11/2010 17:32

fartmeister and potplant, I get where the bits of the name come from, but "Strictly Come Dancing" doesnt make any sense as a title, does it...?

Marlinspike · 10/11/2010 17:37

Skillbo, maybe I'll be on the same series as you, when I too am a sleb (for doing something amazing; not quite sure what yet). I'll be dancing with Vincent as I am vertically challenged. My best dances will be tango and paso. I think we stand a pretty good chance of getting to the final, don't you? Grin

fartmeistergeneral · 10/11/2010 18:00

I can see myself doing the Argentine Tango.

Marlinspike · 10/11/2010 18:05

YES Fart, me too, in an understated yet devastatingly sexy black lace dress, split to the thigh.

I'll get 4 10's for that one (it will even melt Craig's heart, and my handshaping will be perfect!)

Snowstorm · 10/11/2010 19:09
Smile
Skillbo · 10/11/2010 20:46

Ooooh - I would LOVE to do the Argentine Tango... lots of flicks and lifts - very gorgeous! I think me and Matt will be so amazing, Brucie will be speechless (and let the judges just talk for an effing change!) - perfect 10's here too Smile

I guess the title is a bit useless but seems to work... we're the only country that use it I think - was cool on ITT the other day to see Darren and other matey talking about Strictly around the world. Had read about the lesbian couple - they sound fab! Not sure I want our Strictly to start to be so prop filled though - there was a snake fgs! I am getting slightly annoyed by all the bits littering the floor as it is. It should tell the story without big things that just distract (sorry, rant over!)

Weird to see Chris on ITT today - seemed very 'when we did it' and 'i found' and 'me, me, me' but I wasn't particularly enamoured with him last year - didn't mind him winning though!

fartmeistergeneral · 10/11/2010 20:50

Hey, hey, hey! Matt is MY Argentine Tango partner!

I will force him to wear eyeliner like he did for 'Matt out of Hell'

fartmeistergeneral · 10/11/2010 20:50

He'll have to bump and grind like I know he can. Wink
