We sent our forms back in April and the tracking is still saying 'awaiting documents' - DS is 17 in July so I am really hoping it will be here in time!

DD's turned up about 5 days after I spotted the 'issued' status (but it might have been at that for a week before as I got bored checking).

@TeenMinusTests - partly our parenting style, DDs always had to to persevere more with DD learning things and we've never let her give up, and it's useful to be able to drive with a manual. Also DH doesn't consider driving an automatic as "proper driving" Grin. DD will get there. Eventually. Which is why she's applied for her licence so early, she wants to be ready for lessons on her 17th birthday.

Lyn Fair enough. DD1 had 1 year to learn (summer birthday and not going to uni) so passing on something quickly was more important to us than manual. Having done that for DD1 it makes sense for us for DD2 too (especially as I'm currently doing 1hr round trips to drop her to college...)

The follow up question to getting a provisional license tends to be how much to insure.
We have just purchased a small auto for DD to learn on, DH is main owner and main driver. Insurance for DH, DD & myself is £278. (With Admiral multicar).

I applied for my sons provisional licence in may online
Then they sent a form out to fill out and send a photo to which I did return a couple days later
But today I’ve received a refund and no provisional licence issued
So don't understand why ?
Can't get throu to them to ask why

LynetteScavo · 05/10/2021 16:23

@emsie2 - that happened with DS at the beginning of the first lockdown. I'm pretty sure it was because of lockdown- but it seems strange (and very frustrating) for it to happen now, especially as it's virtually impossible to speak to them on the phone.

Thanks Lyn ...did u reply again
As u say no answer the phones or email so you don't know if the photo or form was incorrect
I thinking to just reply again and hopefully

DS just applied again. I don't think he could do it until the end of the first lockdown (I can't remember when that was) by the end of August O was getting a bit annoyed and did manage to speak to someone, who sent out another form to attach a photo to...then at the beginning of September the licence magically appeared. I think the backlog is now even bigger though, than it was a year ago Sad

DD did her first driving session with DH today, and it went well. Smile

Just to let everyone know Today in despair I applied for my sons license again online! We have been waiting since June! The upshot is the new application verified passport photo and signature there and then so you should not need to send the photo which has been what has been causing the delay. It should hopefully now come within 3 weeks!!!

Bessiebigpants · 30/10/2021 08:59

Update, yesterday I received an email it’s been processed and is due in 2 weeks unbelievable

Idontwant2 · 04/11/2021 22:01

We are waiting on DDs licence, applied and paid online 17th September but had to wait for the form to arrive and send back a photo as dd didn’t want to use her passport pic as she is only 12 on it.

The form arrived within a week and we sent it & photo straight back and nothing since, the tracker still says awaiting form 😩 hoping it arrives soon so I can get her booked in for lessons as these are supposed to be part of her birthday presents and her birthday is at the beginning of December.

Not holding my breath though for it to arrive & can never get through to dvla to check, phone line just cuts you off and we chat advisors are always unavailable
