Do you allow your 12+ yo DS and DD to have their phones / devices in their rooms at night?

Do you allow your 13+ yo DS and DD to have their phones / devices in their rooms at night!

No!!

wfrances · 08/01/2017 20:38

ds 13 - yes but he falls asleep 20 mins after his medication anyway so i know hes not on it all night.

smartiecake · 08/01/2017 20:38

That's 1.5 miles each way

iMatter · 08/01/2017 20:39

Bed time 8.15.

He can read as much as he likes but has to be in bed by 8.15.

Still have to wake him every morning though... 🙄

BangBelly · 08/01/2017 20:39

No. Phone gets handed over 30 ins before lights out for my 12 yr old DS.

PinkBuffalo · 08/01/2017 20:39

I'm 30 and have my phone switched off overnight Blush
I need my sleep!

User1234567891011 · 08/01/2017 20:39

Recently an adult

I wish my parents had taken mine away. I did have them (unless they had been taken due to behaviour). I imagine if I hadn't had them I wouldn't have been going to sleep at 2am and would have been in a much better state to study at school the next day.

Still to this day (twenties) have trouble not being on a device until early hours as I don't have the discipline and find it hard to sleep without something playing on in the background!

mycatwantstokillme1 · 08/01/2017 20:39

No. But I am lucky, my 17 year old Aspergers DS has never been really into his phone. He likes it, but not to the extent I read about on here, or other teens I know.

Ylvamoon · 08/01/2017 20:39

I stopped it on school nights, after DD (12) told me friends keep messaging her well after lights out.
So phone has to be in kitchen for charging after 8:30.

user1477282676 · 08/01/2017 20:40

Yes but only because she always turns it off when I tell her to. It's also her alarm.

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 08/01/2017 20:40

Yes i did
My dd is a rule follower unlike me 😂

She's just turned 18 and can now allow herself to watch any film she fancies Hmm

doggle · 08/01/2017 20:40

my 15 and 17yo's have their phones. 13yo doesn't. tbh the 15yo shouldn't as he is unable to self-regulate. all of his friends snapchat him throughout the night, so some of these parents who think their dc are asleep with no phones on are clearly deluded. the 'all my friends do' argument is a strong one here...

Ledkr · 08/01/2017 20:40

Yes but its blocked at 9.30 Grin
Tell him it's the law

NotYoda · 08/01/2017 20:41

No, 13 and 16 year olds

grumpysquash3 · 08/01/2017 20:42

DS would like to know if you allow your 12yo to use YouTube and internet freely when they have devices?

skinimum I am the person your DS has been waiting for :)

My DC are 15, 13 and nearly 11. They all have computers in their rooms. They all have phones. And they all have free access to YouTube and internet (we have parental control), but they can get on it when they like.

I think I am very lax. But they come home from school by themselves and are in for a few hours, so it is hard to police. Also, I do believe that looking after themselves on devices is part of growing up. At least there are no arguments this way......

vshah140113 · 08/01/2017 20:42

Yes I did but now I've stopped

BabychamSocialist · 08/01/2017 20:43

Yes, I did at that age but only from that age. They're 16 now and you'd have to pry their phones and laptops away from their cold dead hands, but they're generally pretty good at setting their own limits and they're both doing well at school, so I have no worries.

SomewhereNow · 08/01/2017 20:43

DD14 and yes but has to be switched off by 9pm and across the other side of the room i.e. no checking from bed. I'll trust her to do this until she proves otherwise - maybe I'm naive but it works for us.

grumpysquash3 · 08/01/2017 20:43

Mine don't go to bed early either :(

VirtuallyMe · 08/01/2017 20:44

No.

Phone charges down stairs overnight

As do ipads and computers

This may be controversial - no tv in dd12's bedroom either

mogloveseggs · 08/01/2017 20:44

Bedtime anywhere between 7.30-10pm Depending on how tired she is/if she's at a club that night activity club not night club

paxillin · 08/01/2017 20:45

No. I no longer asked post 16.

rednsparkley · 08/01/2017 20:46

Absolutely not - all devices/phones are handed over at 9pm to be put on charge downstairs.

And my husband has put the kids devices on a restricted channel for internet access which specifically bans YouTube as my 12yr old DS was accessing stuff we don't want him to - Grand Theft Auto for example.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 08/01/2017 20:46

Yep. DS is 16. He is fairly sensible, apart from last night when he stayed up till 3am watching a series about Pablo Escobar on netflix. He suffered today when he couldn't get up in time for football so has gone to bed already tonight. He will learn.

youarenotkiddingme · 08/01/2017 20:46

My 12yo has his iPad and phone in his room at night. They are just on his desk.

But he doesn't use them and has never used them overnight so there's no reason for me to remove them if thats where they are when he goes to bed. If they are in the lounge when he goes to bed they stay there.
