I’m getting my forearm blacked out tomorrow!

That’s it really! It’s currently a jumbled mess of a snake/ roses/ leaves but there’s no colour so it’s hard to distinguish what’s going on and I’ve never really liked it so I’m getting the whole arm between elbow and hand blacked out.

never had black out before, has anyone else? Seen it on other people (mostly cool guys in bands tho 😂)

It’s gonna be a 4 hour session 😬

Here's Kat's. She left her fathers portrait. She posted this with it, which some people on here should heed:

"Before anyone feels inspired to negatively criticize my tattoo, please remember that not everyone connects with the same things. I’ve been tattooing well over 2 decades and have seen so many tattoos in my lifetime that I personally would never get, yet feel happy for the wearer because it means something to them.

"I don’t think there should be room for criticism when it comes to self expression, and a tattoo is personal to the person wearing it. So thank you ahead of time for being respectful. Much love."

Nah that’s really nice OP. Don’t listen to the laser enthusiasts. I like it a lot, you’ve chosen well there.

MissWings · 11/02/2023 16:53

@Megifer

I appreciate what you’re saying. Let people express their own individuality and creativity how they see fit, but I think a total black out goes above and beyond a tattoo. It doesn’t really look like art does it? I would actually be concerned for my daughter as often it can be sign of body mutiliation. I mean it doesn’t look like body art but I appreciate the OP might really like this look so yes each to their own. I think it would be in context really to the individual who has it done, whether or not they are mutilating themselves.

@DontLikeMenthols

Well I just think it looks really rough and trashy that’s all, no offense.

I think a lot of tatts are a bit chav and rough anyway as well as kind of ugly on women, but whole blackout is just taking it even further and I would assume that either self harming scars or some fascinating offensive or insane tatto was being covered by it

But that’s just me, it’s fine if you’re a tatt person. To each their own.

Seriously? Can you see the irony of adding "no offence" to what you've written ?

You don't like it. I get that, but do you need to be nasty.

One thing that is certain is that you are horribly judgmental.

Happysalley · 11/02/2023 16:34

Lol! Picturing a horde of goth and emo men chasing op down the street Benny Hill style.

It’s not that far off the truth!

Thankfully I am on the cusp of age-invisibility now but I have spent twenty plus years fending off pervy blokes saying stuff like ‘I like your chest tattoo love… how far DOWN does it go?’ whilst eyeing my cleavage.

Porkandbeans1 · 11/02/2023 16:58

Art is subjective. I think some modern art looks like a child's drawings but others love it. It would be a very dull and uninspiring world if we all felt the same and liked the same things.

The clues in the name... Black out

There are lots of blackouts that have designs as part of them though. The clue’s in my question.

freckles20 · 11/02/2023 16:58

ElizaGumpyLeg · 11/02/2023 16:32

@All4Stars

What the hell? I meant no offense I just don’t get how someone can do that to their own body?

WTAF @ElizaGumpyLeg. You meant no offence? You must be quite something when you do mean to cause offence. Can you go away now and stop being so nasty please.

desperatehousewife21 · 11/02/2023 17:03

Ahh I’ve caused a riot!

I quite liked trending 😂 to be honest some of the replies have cracked me up. ‘Freak show’ and ‘tattoos are for sailors and crims’ 😂 what decade are we in the 1950s?!

I can confirm I was NOT covering up anything racist or offensive it was just a jumbled mess of a snake/ thorns/ roses etc.

Thank you to those posters giving positive comments and defending me against the trolls 😊

Also, the difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed is that we don’t care that your skin is bare 😉

The op has left the parts she didn't want blacking out

freckles20 · 11/02/2023 17:04

I've never visited the tattoo board before, and I don't have any tattoos. However, all of a sudden I feel the urge to have an @ElizaGumpyLeg tattoo to remind me how much I hate nasty judgey people.

Suppose it depends on context.

A daughter who is happy, doing ok, has friends and interests etc getting heavy tatts is probably nothing to be concerned about.

A daughter who has a history of mental health issues or self harm or ED's etc, yes there might be more to it. Although it still wouldn't be the tattoo that's the issue although I dare say it might shine a spotlight on things.

Although you are right, technically it is mutilation, as is ear piercing, getting nails filed down within an inch of their life only to put plastic ones back on, eyebrows waxed off and redrawn back on, eyelashes glued on then ripped off etc..

WiddlinDiddlin · 11/02/2023 17:08

That looks great @desperatehousewife21 love to see it when it's all healed up! 😃

desperatehousewife21 · 11/02/2023 17:10

I have no history of self harm. I’m a married mum of 2 and just love tattoos 😄 I also love rock/ metal and go to gigs all the time so I guess that’s just my ‘look’

OP posts:
MissWings · 11/02/2023 17:16

@Megifer

Yes context is key.

@desperatehousewife21

Well good for you.

HedgeWitchy · 11/02/2023 17:25

I’m surprised at the negativity. I’ve got no tattoos as I haven’t wanted one personally, but I can like them still. I think it’s not wildly different to a full sleeve, just a different look. I quite like the skull showing and the edges. I wouldn’t think twice about seeing it on another mum.

desperatehousewife21 · 11/02/2023 17:26

Thank you!

The edges are intentionally ‘scratchy’ looking. I like the messy, not- neat look 😄

I kind of wish I'd got some tattoos. Always been interested. Probs not too late at 31yo.

I think the pain would be fine. I'm great at forcing myself through the pain barrier in the gym and have given myself intramuscular injections before without too much trouble.

SirChenjins · 11/02/2023 17:33

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 11/02/2023 17:04

The op has left the parts she didn't want blacking out

So no designs, just messy lines as the OP has clarified. Not my taste as it looks unfinished and amateurish imo - I like the ones with integrated designs which are more like good works of art - but also not my arm obvs.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 11/02/2023 17:36

I also really don’t understand the judgemental comments on someone else’s body. Like fine, don’t like it, don’t look. Don’t like it, don’t get it. Why come on to bark on about how much you hate someone else’s body, I find it so needlessly mean.

”tattoos on women are ugly”
I mean really this comment goes beyond judgemental, women are free to do what they like with their own bodies, just as men are. Some attitudes are ugly. On a man or a woman.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 11/02/2023 17:38

Some people are judgemental, body shaming, women shaming, classist bastards.

But that’s just me, it’s fine if you’re a bastard. To each their own.

Absolutely not too late, I’m 32!

Not at all surprised by some of the comments on this thread. A lot of users with no appreciation or understanding of the art of tattooing, talking as if their opinion is gospel. What’s new.

I have seen some incredible blackout work recently, it looks incredible. It’s not something I would get personally as I am definitely not that cool, but I think it’s such a bold, strong move. It isn’t for the weak.

I have several tattoos and I love every single one of them. Genuinely. I go to an incredible artist and I find the entire experience so cathartic. It’s something I do for me, and only me (which is quite rare as a mum of 2!).

I love the entire process. Deciding on design concepts and having a collaborate effort with my artist. Going into the studio and figuring out sizes and placement. The stencil going on. And even the pain! Working through that pain for something beautiful in the end.

At the end of the day, you have one life. I’d much rather live my life in the present and enjoy my twenties, thirties and forties than do nothing and wind up in a care home at 80 (if I get that far) and regret everything I never did.

Life is for living.

I got my first last year at 27. 31 is young. Lots of people get their first in their 60s, 70s or later!

It’s never too late.

Being in your thirties mean you know what career path you’re on and what might hold you back, and what won’t. You’ll have more disposable income than when you were 18 so you’ll be able to afford to go to a great artist and get incredible work. You’re also aware of what a “bad tattoo” vs a “good tattoo” is and not go to someone down the road who is available the next day just because you’re impulsive and want a tattoo done that week.

You have wisdom on your side and by now you’ll be very self assured in terms of who you are as a person.

Definitely don’t think you’re too old. In a lot of ways you’re at the perfect age to start.
