Tattoo on the Face

I'm considering getting a very small tattoo on my face. Q1: What are your thoughts on facial tattoos generally?
I'm considering getting a small star tattoo beside and below the eye at the top of the cheek bone. Q2: What are your opinions on this? If my partner had an identical tattoo on his face, in exactly the same place as I have one what would your views be on this?

By all means if you want a face tattoo, go for it. It makes absolutely no odds to me what someone else does with their own body. I'm just saying that it would be futile to get annoyed with people who'd judge you for it.

OldAndWornOut · 31/03/2019 23:54

I really don't think anyone is interested enough to dictate what a stranger does to their face.
I wouldn't see that it would matter whether others like it or not.

MargotLovedTom1 · 31/03/2019 23:56

I've got no issues, thanks Smile.
If it helps, just think of 'fucking daft' as blunt, Northern shorthand for 'wouldn't advise it because of society's opinions and friends' experiences' (not their tattoos are on their faces).

MargotLovedTom1 · 31/03/2019 23:57

(not that their...)

hopll · 01/04/2019 00:00

@MargotLovedTom1
Okay love

sandi2019 · 01/04/2019 00:17

Please do not do this. I have a few tattoos that I'm having lazered off. All in places I can thankfully hide but it is excruciating (I've been tattooed and pierced so many times and nothing compares to removal....it is like being burnt with a hot poker hundreds of times).
Also....the lazer may scar...as it has on all of the ones I have. Those scars may also grow.
A reputable artist will not tattoo your face anyway.
Please don't do it...I am a fan of the ink but that's going to look trash and chav.
The colours you intend may also not appear as you want on your face I.E black (outline or fill) will appear dark green.
Bad idea.

sandi2019 · 01/04/2019 00:26

Ps. It's all good and well saying....society shouldn't judge you for a facial tattoo....and you should be able to express yourself in the way you wish....reality is: career-wise...it does not work like this.

If you want a professional career at any point in your life, it's my bet you'll be overlooked if you have a facial tattoo.

Maybe it shouldn't be like this.....but the fact is: it is.

Remember....tattoos will often lose their definition....they blur....that's just gonna look naff on your face.

I cant say I regret my tattoos....but they now look rubbish a few years on (in terms of colour retention and style)....and now I'm stuck with ridiculously expensive treatments and a lot of pain.

Don't make the same mistake....certainly not on your face!

Epanoui · 01/04/2019 00:28

I wouldn't. Tattoos are fine, though I wouldn't want one myself. But getting a facial tattoo means you close off all kinds of options to yourself because, like it or not, some people will judge. You will forever close off any kind of mainstream employment bar shelf-stacking etc. You say you are setting up your own business, which sounds a great idea. Why not see if you can make a go of that first, before doing something that you can't go back on? Not all small businesses are successful and you may want the option to be employed by someone else in future. If you have a facial tattoo, that will be a lot harder.

What I'd honestly think is 'this person is a bit dim'. Because nobody who wasn't a bit dim would close off avenues to different futures unless they were really without any hope for anything better than what they currently have. And anyone who can get a facial tattoo without consequences is probably in a dead end job with no prospects to earn more or better themselves, or not working at all. I'd feel a bit sorry for them.

Unless you currently make a good living in a job where a facial tattoo would not be a problem, you should not do this.

A couple with matching facial tattoos would just make me laugh, tbh. I'd think it was more than a little tacky.

If you go ahead, I suspect you are likely to regret it in future.

Bluelonerose · 01/04/2019 06:36

Op have you actually found a tattooist who would do a facial tattoo?
You'll find it really hard and please don't go to some unknown coz if they fuck it up (hence why they tattoo from home) it's on your face for life.

TheQueef · 01/04/2019 06:37

Even Mike Tyson struggles to carry it off.

flumpybear · 01/04/2019 06:53

I wouldn't personally. I'd worry that it may put my clients off if running my own business, or if your business fails in the future it may hamper your efforts getting a job, people DO judge no matter how much you or they protest they don't.

unless you're a tattoo artist then it's of no consequence I'd say

Hollytruelove · 01/04/2019 10:51

@Oldandwornout 23:54
It doesn't matter whether or not people dictate it's about hearing other people's opinions and making your own decision with the information.
It's simply useful and helpful hearing other people's opinions.
It's harmless enough to enquire for your own interest.

@Editingfairy that's not out of ignorance btw.
How do you expect someone to reply to 140 messages immediately using just a phone? I'd like to see someone else respond to all of them more promptly from a phone. Lol I'm responding as much as I can
Despite having various other things to do today. But I am grateful to everyone who posted

OP posts:
Hollytruelove · 01/04/2019 11:16

Whether you are old or young, 80 years old or 25 it's irrelevant. If you get a tattoo it's a choice you make from day one. You make the committment knowingly to have it forever the day you get it. If you don't consider that and be happy to have it for life then you weren't thinking straight when you got it because it's too late to turn the clock back once you have it. So it's pointless regretting something you already committed to have if you did. I say either have it and be proud of it and accept it's what makes you who you are or don't get it and don't regret staying the same all your life and be happy with that.

OP posts:
Hollytruelove · 01/04/2019 11:25

@editingfairy also if you had read the messages I have posted thanking everyone for their posts and opinions you would have realised I have responded positively to all already

SherlockHolmes · 01/04/2019 11:32

I think you have asked for opinions and the majority have said they would judge you, for various reasons.

I think it would look ugly, but then I'm not a fan of facial tattoos.

As for you and your partner having matching ones - it's the same as wearing matching anoraks. Hideous.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 01/04/2019 11:34

Huge mistake.
Tacky.
Not very bright.

Judgemental? Yes. Sorry but that's how I feel.

BillyBadBreaks · 02/04/2019 11:38

I think it's a lovely idea to have matching tattoos and wouldn't judge you for a facial one. I do now judge a lot of the people in this thread more negatively though. I'm a punk who has had people yelling abuse at me in the street because of the way I choose to look though so you may not want to listen to my opinion if you're worried about what other people think!

Hollytruelove · 02/04/2019 15:53

Shocker!
Really interesting how many people take people for face value rather than evidence of their personality. I've never done that for a day in my life. Wow! 😯

OP posts:
TapasForTwo · 02/04/2019 16:55

I think you are being rather naïve about it. Did you really, honestly expect everyone to say that facial tattoos are widely acceptable (and look attractive)?

IvanaPee · 02/04/2019 17:21

You’re being rather disingenuous, OP.

All wide-eyed about people even noticing or caring.

Why put a tattoo on your face if you don’t want people to notice? It’s very attention seeking. And I’m not necessarily saying that that’s bad, but you have to know (and likely be hoping) that you’d get a reaction.

Thankssomuch · 02/04/2019 19:09

Tattoos on the face are meant to be noticed and cause a reaction, that’s what they’re for. Teardrops, for example. Otherwise if a person wanted to keep track of how many people they’d killed, they could note it down in a diary or perhaps a post it note (on the fridge door).

Torridon19 · 02/04/2019 19:14

That's great OP - You could get additional ones for every person you kill who disrespects you......

Thankssomuch · 02/04/2019 19:15

Or their cell wall, if they’d already been convicted.

Thankssomuch · 02/04/2019 19:16

How about a tally chart?
