Tattoo on the Face

I'm considering getting a very small tattoo on my face. Q1: What are your thoughts on facial tattoos generally?
I'm considering getting a small star tattoo beside and below the eye at the top of the cheek bone. Q2: What are your opinions on this? If my partner had an identical tattoo on his face, in exactly the same place as I have one what would your views be on this?

OP posts:

It’s not the star it’s the location.

YogaWannabe · 31/03/2019 16:23

I’d probably think MH problems

MrsNacho · 31/03/2019 16:26

I have 9 tattoos and some of them are really big.

I would still think it a bad idea for anyone to get a face tattoo unless they were well covered already.

OldAndWornOut · 31/03/2019 16:31

I think if anywhere on you that you'd be most likely to regret, it would be on your face.
I have met a couple of women with facial tattoos, and they're really not to my taste.
A few years ago though, I may well have wanted one to be different.
I don't want one now that I realise I'm not all that different and find I don't care.

MargotLovedTom1 · 31/03/2019 16:35

I think it would look bloody horrible.

dreichuplands · 31/03/2019 16:45

Facial tattoos have strong links with gangs and murders where I live.
It is your choice but you would be judged and relying on successful self employment seems rather limiting.

YouBumder · 31/03/2019 16:45

I wouldn’t think “prison” but I’d be concerned that people would be judgemental - evidenced by some of the posts on this thread - and you’d be limiting your life chances.

My dad has tattoos on the back of his hands and I know he hates those as he feels people judge him on those and they’re visible even when he’s dressed smartly.

Nowordsleft · 31/03/2019 16:57

Op can I ask if you knew that a teardrop tattoo under the eye indicates murder?

Bluelonerose · 31/03/2019 17:01

Op you might find it really hard to find a tattooist to do a face tattoo.
Generally chatting to mine and he said unless someone already has a face tattoo or are very heavily covered in tattoos he would refuse to do it.

mimibunz · 31/03/2019 17:04

If you lived in a city and worked in a tattoo shop I wouldn’t think anything of it because I would understand the context. Otherwise my mind would wander, wondering how people react, why you got the tattoo, have you been turned down for a job, etc.

Saucery · 31/03/2019 17:05

I’d think you were someone who had definitely weighed up the pros and cons of having a tattoo you could never cover up and that you must have strong feelings about the design and placement of it.
Your actions and personality would tell me everything else about you. I wouldn’t make any assumptions about them if I just passed you in the street.

NuclearReactor · 31/03/2019 17:08

I wouldn't think jail but I would think "wtf". You could draw what you want on your face and keep it for a few days to see how you feel about it. Is the star significant? Is a tattoo on the face significant? If the answer is no to both I would think about it long and hard before going ahead.

Susanna30 · 31/03/2019 17:10

I would just think 'ah that's a shame, she's got a lovely face and she's gone and put a tattoo on it. Would have looked nicer without' and that's probably as much thought as I'd give it.

I'm not a tattoo fan. Think the body is beautiful as it is. But I've always loved when people have unusual birthmarks / beauty spots.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 31/03/2019 17:13

The person getting one may be setting up their own business so would not be interested in whether or not it could effect their employment.

I've been self employed. People are even more fussy about who they work with. I'd be very cautious that as generally people are not familiar with nor fond of facial tattoos, that would negatively impact my business. And I'd think they wouldn't probably negatively impact my life, as most peoples only reference point would be jail tattoos.

I'm not saying that is right, by any stretch, but it's how I'd make my decision. You have to cope with society as it is today. We all know that nobody should be treated differently; but they often are, that's reality.

Pocket0219 · 31/03/2019 17:16

If you don't like the responses why ask for people's opinions. I don't understand why anyone would want a tattoo on their face, they look horrendous!

wafflyversatile · 31/03/2019 17:20

It would depend on how else she presented herself and what else I knew about her.

If someone came in for interview and was well presented and interviewed well I would not be put off by that tattoo.

I rarely like tattoos. 87% of them look objectively shit. Star ones are very dull and lacking in any originality or artistic merit whatsoever imo. But everyone and their mum has one these days and if they're happy with them then good luck to them.

OldAndWornOut · 31/03/2019 17:23

I keep thinking about all the women I consider beautiful, then imagining a tasteful tattoo on their faces.

FurryDogMother · 31/03/2019 17:27

I'd wonder why you decided to have a tattoo there rather than just use makeup to draw a small star where you wanted it. Same appearance but with the option for change - it's not like it'd be a lot of bother to do it whenever you felt like it. If drawing it on isn't an option for you, can you explain why - because I'm really interested!

yorkshirepud44 · 31/03/2019 17:28

@wafflyversatile I agree. There are some shocking tattoos out there.

I think very few people can carry off tattoos well. Something about black ink on pasty skin especially makes me feel a bit queasy but I keep that opinion totally to myself irl.

As an employer, I generally look past tattoos on applicants as it has no bearing on their ability to do the job (plus we wouldn't have many staff), but I know I'd never get someone with a tattooed face past our md.

I kind of think there should be a trial period for these things. Get someone to sharpie a star on your face op, and see if you still like it in a week. Grin

PerspicaciaTick · 31/03/2019 17:28

Matching facial tattoos? I don't imagine they will be a source of unending joy for you and I'd worry that you might make poor choices in other areas of your life and business.

yorkshirepud44 · 31/03/2019 17:29

@FurryDogMother yes! That's what I was trying to say. Why does it need to be permanent?

MyKingdomForBrie · 31/03/2019 17:30

I wouldn't judge you in the slightest.

VeronicaDinner · 31/03/2019 17:33

You could cover it up with professional camouflage make up. But it would be a nuisance.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 31/03/2019 17:37

Prison.

IvanaPee · 31/03/2019 17:41

If it was big, I would find it off-putting. Big face tattoos are a bit...scummy, for want of a better word.

If it was small, it would probably be a bit pointless. I think face tattoos aren’t understated so be weird to get an understated one.

Also; matching face tattoos? It’s a bit cringey!
