I've just found a bat in my kitchen sink. What do I do with it?

Confused Luckily it was in a colander so I placed a book over the top and have put it outside, but it's still int he colander. It's fairly small, would fit into the palm of my hand, and fury so I'm not sure if it's a baby (or how it got in). I haven't touched it. HELP!

Aww you area uh a lovely person to be caring for the mummy and baby bats, have you named them yet?

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 21:24

Grin Bob's gone home. I'm not sure where his mum is though. Bat lady was lovely. She said the baby is a baby, so it would have been his first time out of the batcave. He was really active when she picked him up, and he had a little water. She said they didn't like to take them unless they have to, as they become dependent on humans and can live for 16 years! Shock We took him outside (as he was so active), and he didn't want to try to fly at first. She was about to put him inside the pouch to take him away with her, when he started to flap around again, so she put him on the wall and he flew away. It was lovely, just like watching ds as he rode his bike without stabilisers for the first time.
We couldn't find mum though, so I've left the windows open in the hope that she'll hear Bob calling and she'll go to him. There are other bats outside, I saw one as the Bat lady was leaving, so he's not alone. She said they live in little families, so the other bats will look after Bob until his mum finds her way home.

You should have seen me at 1:30 this morning, Adversecamber! Blush I'm feeling very squee now. Blush

What a wonderful tale. A storybook in the making? So pleased Bob was ok.

Good luck with finding a publisher for your work. Have you thought about getting an agent to represent you? I used to work as an editor in a company that actually read submissions; sadly, most won't.

Beccatheboo · 25/07/2012 21:34

I hasten to add - I am not an agent! :-) 'Just' a SAHM nowadays.

squeakytoy · 25/07/2012 21:38

awww this was such a sweet thread.. I would love to see a bat close up. :)

Alameda · 25/07/2012 21:40

I would like to read a story about a baby bat :)

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 21:42

Grin It's now in the pipeline, I usually write about dragons and witches. I'm really happy for him. I had a line of snails come to visit last week, they were all sliding past my front door!

I have tried to find an agent. The last one didn't sign me but told me to cut words from my picture book, which I did. Then she said she didn't love it enough to take it forwards. I can't say I blame her, it just didn't flow when I cut the words. It's now with some very Random people, and they have said they will be in touch very soon, which I think is good. I've written a novel, I'm just not sure if it's good enough though. The readers love it, one was reading it until 4am. I'm finding it so hard to get feedback which I can use to improve it. I can't afford an editor.

Aww how lovely

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 21:50

I'm really hoping his mum's there with him {sobs}

Beccatheboo · 25/07/2012 21:55

That's great if the readers can't put it down! If Random people have said they'll be in touch soon, it's looking very hopeful! Good luck x (I miss publishing...)

2Old2BeABluePeterPresenter · 25/07/2012 21:58

Aww just read the whole thread and really chuffed Bob was alright :)

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 22:03

They like a picture book, Becca. They haven't seen the novel. I wanted some negative feedback so I know what I need to work on. I couldn't get an agent for it before I rewrote it, so am reluctant to send it back to them now.

Thank you 2Old2BeABlue, I'm so happy for him. I really hope he finds his way home. I hadn't realised just how fab they are.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 25/07/2012 22:11

Aw, I am so glad Bob is happily flapping away! Hope you find mum soon.

Good luck with the novel.

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 22:13

I'm hoping I don't find her because she's flown out of the window! Grin

Thank you. It's so hard to write a book. I must be a sucker for punishment as I can't seem to stop. Blush

OP posts:
LRDtheFeministDragon · 25/07/2012 22:16

Nah, bet she's under your pillow or something.

Grin

Sorry, I'm evil.

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 22:18

Grin Nope, I locked her in the kitchen. {runs off to check under the pillows}

Mum and son reunited. Heartwarming news! Cue time for bed.

(The picture book is looking hopeful so it's a 'foot in the door'. Don't lose your optimism. Perseverance is everything. I hope I have a novel 'in me' some day. You've already done the hard slog.)

X

Just read the whole thread...awww I love a happy ending

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 22:26

Smile Thank you. I'm about to head off, I can't survive on 5 hours sleep. The picture book is a huge foot in the door, they are great publishers . You should give it a go, there's nothing to lose.

OP posts:
LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 22:28

Grin Thank you, Malinki. Wine

Yay for bats! Sounds like it might become a regular occurance if there are lots near by.

Maybe you could use them as inspiration. I would buy children's books about bats . . . Don't even have children yet
