I've just found a bat in my kitchen sink. What do I do with it?

Confused Luckily it was in a colander so I placed a book over the top and have put it outside, but it's still int he colander. It's fairly small, would fit into the palm of my hand, and fury so I'm not sure if it's a baby (or how it got in). I haven't touched it. HELP!

Hokay. Big bat has woken up and is now flying around my kitchen.

Open the door / windows , hopefully it will fly out

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 14:52

I'm not sure where it is now Confused If I open the door, I may think it's gone when it could be hiding.

Do you still have the bats or have they been rescued?

hellymelly · 25/07/2012 18:33

Aw! very very sweet. Hope they are both fine- is the big one the Mummy bat? Baby must need a feed asap.

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 19:14

They are still here! I've managed to find someone from a local rescue centre to come and collect them, she'll be about an hour. I hope the large one is the mum, the lady's going to help me find 'her' and she'll take them both. I'm so pleased someone's going to help them! Grin Blush

will you be allowed to visit the rescue centre? Would be nice to know how they fare, you must feel quite attached by now

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 19:26

Smile That would be nice. I've never been to an animal rescue centre before. {sobs}

Yes, it'd be lovely to know it they make it!

Alameda · 25/07/2012 19:29

had to take a teeny tiny hedgehog to a sanctuary once, too tiny to hibernate, and it was lovely to know that he gained weight and was deemed fit to fend for himself the following year

am sure I used to have a life though Confused

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/07/2012 19:30

Confused. Am I the only mnetter who would feck the rat bat out into the garden and close the door on it?

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 19:33

Grin I'll ask her, Dragon.

It's not a rat, Gwen, it's a tiny bat. It's cute and frail, why would I do that to it?

I like hedgehogs, Alameda. Smile

it is illegal to harm a bat (I think) so you would have to be careful

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 19:34

You're right, it is illegal. I couldn't harm a little creature though. Even spiders go outside. Flies on the other hand...

OP posts:
GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/07/2012 19:35

I wouldn't harm it, God know. I'd feck it out gently Wink

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/07/2012 19:35

Argh! God no

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 19:38

I did try to put it outside so that it could fly away. It wouldn't budge from the bloody colander and looked as though it was shivering so I brought it back in and gave it a warm fluffy sock and a drink. {I'm not nice, really}

OP posts:
GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/07/2012 19:41

What's with the sock? Don't tell me it gets into it like a bat-sized sleeping bag? :)

MimsyBorogroves · 25/07/2012 19:44

Aaw! I would like a baby bat Envy

Not one of the big fuckers I saw at the zoo though. They were the size of chickens, I swear.

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 19:45

I looked online and it said to put something soft in the box so they could keep warm and hide inside it. It was the first thing I found.

Thank you for the link Stranded. Never fails to amuse Grin

Hope the poor ol' real bat makes it back to its bat family.

LadySybildeChocolate · 25/07/2012 19:52

Hahaha! Grin

I hope the large bat is mum. I read that they only have one baby a year, so I hope they both find a lovely home.

Catsmamma · 25/07/2012 19:59

oh bat babies!!

we often see bats zipping about the house, I guess they are in the farm buildings and old derelict farm house...I'd love to find one

Has the bat lady got them now??
