Lost could get loud and guide the ships in.

We could hire wetsuits and have lessons

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 06/05/2017 22:58

GUIDE THE SHIPS IN? What like a foghorn? I do talk quite loudly as my ears are shot to bits from standing too close to speakers. Stupidity of youth!

Let's just have a beach party and chat up the really fit surfing instructor instead. I'll bring a stripey windbreak. Smile

serialtester · 06/05/2017 23:06

I'll be identified by my glittery flippers.

I need to join this thread.

I have a serious problem. As in every day, at work, 5+ grams a week problem.

I keep making really bad choices as a result of my habit and I have to change. I just don't know where to start.

No one knows the extent of my issue. Managed to quit for 6 years, but fell off the wagon in 2015, used recreationally for a bit, then became a seriously heavy user about a year ago. Suspect I have permanently damaged my nose.

It has to stop.

serialtester · 07/05/2017 08:11

Hello dangerous. You've come to the right place. Welcome to the surfboard.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 07/05/2017 09:36

Morning all.
Welcome on board Dangerous Smile
It's so easy for a habit to snowball and I think we all understand the awful secrecy and shame that comes with it. You sound like you've had enough and want to change. Sheer bloody will power and determination is key to kicking this shit.

I found it easiest to take tiny steps, not looking too far ahead. Try one day clean to start or half a day. It will get easier. Flowers
Let us know how you're getting on. It really does help to write it all down, no judgement here!

ponzusoup · 07/05/2017 11:07

Hello Dangerous. One day at a time works for me ( sometimes). Plus just not having any in the house. Obvious but true. Can you limit your stock so you have to cut down? Give yourself small targets to reduce your use? Taking it cold turkey too scary?

It's such a devilish drug and screws with your reason .....

I also find exercise helps to beat the cravings.

Brew and a hug for you.

ponzusoup · 07/05/2017 11:11

I fell off into the mandy last night. Good or bad I dunno. Went to a party and just cannot seem just to drink. Want a buzz.

Defo up for that beach carnival with you lot. Would we ever return ?

ponzusoup · 07/05/2017 11:16

Also dangerous remember that you managed to stop before so you can do it again. Try to recall what helped you last time.

I've got buddies coming for lunch so am about to start on the meatballs but I'll be back later ...

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 07/05/2017 11:26

No we'd go out with a bang though.

You did great Ponzu with over a week clean so moving in the right direction (That can be track 3 of the Small Mercies album)

I agree the psychological grip it gets on you is like nothing else. It's so hard to fight it. All the advice/self help I've read on drug addiction concentrates on under lying issues making you use or why you're using to cope with bad things in your life.
I seem to just crave the high Confused

Be kind to yourself today, Ponz x

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 07/05/2017 11:28

Friends and meatballs sounds good Smile

serialtester · 07/05/2017 11:36

Mmmm meatballs! I'm going to the pub for lunch.

Enjoy Serial. Take your surfboard if you're crossing The Channel Wink

dangerous · 07/05/2017 20:33

I got pregnant ponzu, but I don't really want any more kids - two is plenty!

Had a better day today. Did the last of supplies in the early morning and went on to have a nice day without any. Was nice not to be strung out and jittery for once.

Hoping last week was my real 'rock bottom'. I did some awful things and took too many risks.

HoochiMama · 07/05/2017 21:03

Hey Dangerous, welcome aboard.

Well done for today, glad you feel better for it, just take one day at a time. Don't look back, keep looking forward. I've done some stupid things too, none of us are perfect Confused

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 07/05/2017 21:23

Well done today Dangerous. Try to concentrate on the positives if you can. That strung out jittery feeling isn't great is it? i know what you mean. Remember you'll be crashing so try not to start reflecting on your life with critical eyes. Nothing looks too great on a comedown. x

It's fucking hard to stay off it, especially at first, but we'll be cheering you on. Come and moan on here like I do when it's tough and cravings are driving you up the wall. Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 07/05/2017 21:28

Feeling quite calm and zen here. Had quite a chilled out day. Much better than last weekend, my moods were up and down like crazy. Probably from too little sleep and dabbling too much.

Hope everyone's ok and no one adrift at sea. Smile

ponzusoup · 07/05/2017 21:36

Well done dangerous keep sharing with us.

I relate to the pregnant motivation I stopped smoking then so glad.

I didn't even take Coke before kids was more a mandy acid speed anything else girl always hated Coke. Then had kids and it just peps up your knackered self. That said it also causes awful moods and terrible judgement.

ponzusoup · 07/05/2017 21:37

Like serial my DP doesn't know except when I admit I have some and he has one line when we go out Blush so it's both easier and harder to stop!!!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 07/05/2017 21:47

Hmm I would love to be like Mr Ponzu. Just able to have one line socially and be content with that. A sort of take it or leave it attitude.

I was completely clean too during my pregnancies and when mine were little. Getting pregnant with my first was when I turned everything around. Obviously it's not a viable cessation method for most of us lot now Grin.

DustyDuck · 07/05/2017 22:29

Interesting thing about addiction in much older people

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 08/05/2017 08:21

That was interesting, Dusty I agree many people expect us oldies to have grown out of recreational drug use.

What will happen when generation X who popped pills at warehouse raves in the 90's get older? Er, well that's me, living a "respectable" life now with my secret coke problem and drinking too much. Blush

At least we have this thread where we can be honest about it all!

Dangerous how are you feeling? Hopefully a bit more positive.

Flowers Wishing everyone a good week. Flowers

ZiggertyZaggerty · 08/05/2017 22:10

Thanks Dusty - that is a really interesting article and totally agree with you Lost, it sounds like most of us on here!
We're over a certain age, having partied in our youth and after being sensible (ish) whilst child bearing now still crave the buzz of drugs and/or alcohol.
We are definitely going to need to set up a Columbian OAP home Wink
