Oh, and Bunny - local nanny training colleges are always clamouring for placements...Norland Nannies are good...they will second people out for placements and assignments FOC for on-the-job training, in your home. Great for day to day assistance.

notyummy · 16/07/2010 20:08

Hi all

Firstly - CONGRATULATIONS bunnymother !!!! I can understand how shellshocked you must be by this news though, and some of the implications. Although there may not be direct experience of twins on this thread, hopefully we will be able to help support you in any way we can (inc stylish options for your beautiful tummy later!)

Zembo - so glad you like the dress. For that price a bit of draping is a bargain, no? The Asos top you linked to was cool as well.

Today was DDs birthday - tomorrow the party at home, with around 30 people here (and the weather changeable, at best. We are going for a traditional party - cake/sandwiches/ironic 70s cheese and pineapple and cheese hedgehog, and crisps /veg sticks with dips. Plus jelly, cake, choc crispy cakes and choc fingers. In fact all you need is some Angel Delight and a soda stream and it will be 1978 A few party games planned, but at 4 they still quite often just want to play. Will be sticking to the 5pm finish though - party bags handed out then as not so subtle hint...

This weekend a chuffing social whirl for DD. Graduation ceremony and party at her nursery today (complete with mortar boards...) DH and I went for fear of being branded 'bad parents' - but really - a 'graduation'?? They are 4. Anyway, she enjoyed herself. Went home and opened presents. Whenever we do this, it reminds me how random kids are, and how what WE think is exciting is not the same for them. DD got lots of lovely things - inc a new bike and Toy Story 1 and 2 on DVD, plus books and games. The best one? The one that made her skip round the room saying 'I love this present, it is the best present in the whole world'? A DVD of Anne of Green Gables (the series shown on Channel 4 in the late 80s/early 90s.) There is a back story here - in Italy I found in the library a slightly adapted version of Anne of Green Gables (easier version for younger kids.) I read her a chapter a day, and she couldnt get enough - was MESMERISED by the fact that Anne has red hair like her etc. On returning home I remembered the series and found it on Amazon and bought it for 1.99 as an extra birthday present. The new Raleigh bike is ok. The DVD is a WINNER!

Wish me luck for tomorrow. Will be knee deep in Pass the Parcel as you crack open the Prosecco.

Have a lovely time all - and roll on meet-up 2!

traceybath · 16/07/2010 20:10

NY - I loved that series of Anne of Green Gables - your DD has excellent tast

notyummy · 16/07/2010 20:11

Roma - it is to balance the long working day/family thing so quite understand why you haven't been posting. Hope you keep lurking and posting occasionally though - would be great if you could make a meet-up. Glad that the job is going well - and well done surviving the axe. I am not sure I will be so lucky - but hopefully other options will materialise. The ex-military officers'old boys/girls' network has been pretty successful for me in the past in finding good challenging jobs, so fingers crossed..

MarshaBrady · 16/07/2010 20:14

Ok got indigo 7fam and pre-dc ressurrected Paul and Joe shirt, florally with lines, and red suede pumps. See you all later on!

VerityBrulee · 16/07/2010 20:16

Oh Bunny that's amazing news I am so envious, I always wanted twins! I have a friend with identical twin boys, a girl, then non-identical twin girls! She had 5 under 5 Their house is full of love and fun, as yours will be. Don't worry you'll be fine.

Have a great evening Marsha and anyone else who's going out

DolceeBanana · 16/07/2010 20:16

Oh Happy Birthday babynotyummy (no, that should be yummybaby...you should change your name you know!)

Glad DD had nice day...and good luck for tomorrow! We are having DSs party in Village Hall next Sat...all marauding pirates...

Graduation does sound a tad OTT I agree...but did you blub? I had to dart out when all the children said goodbye to each other and the Nursery staff kissed and hugged DS and said how they'd miss him...Don't think he really understands he's not going back! ... sorry maudlin...Bombay Sapphire has been opened....hic!

VerityBrulee · 16/07/2010 20:25

NY I cried at dds pre-school graduation and am already dreading ds1's grad from primary school next year, I think I'll need medication to get through it! Good luck with the party, you'll have to show us a picture of the cake so we can shame the other dh's on the thread

Dolcee the real Verity Brulee is a character in a Lauren Child story about a pampered poodle. VB is the owner who spends her days reading magazines and shoe shopping. I could relate to her

DolceeBanana · 16/07/2010 20:27

VB - 5 under 5...blooming heck!

OllieWollieWoo · 16/07/2010 20:27

Bunny - congratulations - lovely, lovely news! I'm one of a twin and my Mum has always said she felt it was a privilage to have twins! (She also says its far easier having them as a 'second' child iykwim as you already know a lot from DC1 so have faith!) I know it must have been a shock and like the others have said, I think almost everyone bursts into tears as a reaction. And at 18 weeks gone, you are almost half way! (Sorry - am I like your DH and focusing on the positives a bit too much?)

Cain - great shoes and great story of how you found them! Really made me smile! I love anything that gives you that sort of reaction.

LetThemEatCake · 16/07/2010 20:35

will post properly later but oh my good god, bunny how amazing!! Totally understandable that it's a massive shock - more pregnant than you thought in two senses!! Unbelievable. But an unbelievable blessing, too. When you think how rare identical twins are ... and these guys chose you and dh ... well, no wonder ttc was taking longer than expected, miracles take time!
And they will be Sagittarius ... the best star sign

huge congrats to you and hope it starts to feel less daunting soon. So excited for you

and dammit, am feeling broody again. I just want an excuse/ justification to gain weight don't I??

OP posts:
eshermummy · 16/07/2010 21:05

Bunny - that is amazing news! Is quite funny really that you were saying how big you felt for 12 weeks - not surprising now you know you're nearly halfway and with two!
I can imagine it's the sort of news that is a bit of a thunderbolt when it comes so only natural to take some time to get your head around it.

Still haven't decided on outfit for meet-up - going upstairs in a bit to try stuff on with selection of shoes that arrived from ASOs earlier. Have got to sort this tonight as will be no time for fannying around tomorrow - will try and get 5.30pm train which should get me there for 6.30pm.

Soz to disappoint but there will deffo be no photos (of me anyway) as, like Tracey, I'd like to remain unidentified on MN

NY - hope your dd has a lovely party and the weather holds.

DolceeBanana · 16/07/2010 21:08

VB - good choice of name - I love Lauren Child...! Yes, would aspire to relate to Verity Brulee I think!

One day! mmmmmmmm ...

notyummy · 16/07/2010 21:40

Funny

Just on case you haven't see this thread with the Mitchell and Webb clip. Dh and I watched the show and laughed out load at this one- so recognisable to the sleep deprived and grumpy new parents!

PlumSykes · 16/07/2010 22:21

Hello. Have been distinctly AWOL for about 3 threads-seems hard to keep up with A&W and RL sometimes, but have been propping up the bar on other S&B threads and still thinking of you all often, especially when out shopping. Speaking of which, have just bought this yellow Vanessa Bruno dress for £40, down from £160 in Urban Outfitters. It's a pure egg-yolk yellow, and looks just 'right' One of those rare moments when you look at yourself in the fitting room mirror and just smile.Would like to wear it out for cocktails on Thurs, but have had to make an appt today to have wisdom tooth out on Thurs (am in swollen face agony) so she may have to hang in the closet for another day.

Anyway, just wanted to say, have a wonderful meet-up. I've had it on the calendar for months, and bet you'll have a wonderful time. damn Dh and his annoying making plans to go away months in advance ways.

And also, bunny, congratulations! What mazing, terrifying, completely out-of the blue news! No wonder you balled!

Will try and get back in the game, and maybe work on reading/posting once a day-though school holiday not perhaps the ideal time to make such a commitment.

Big love to all

blossoming · 16/07/2010 22:23

I really need to go to bed. I have to be in the car at 6.30! Have a great day shopping traceyb, I will look out for a splash of leopard print. Good luck with the meet up everyone!!

monkeysmama · 16/07/2010 23:36

Anyone seen this thread. WTF.

RedBlueRed · 17/07/2010 00:05

On a far more wholesome note can I bring your attention to this?

Please vote daily if you can.

traceybath · 17/07/2010 06:56

Plum - love that dress and have seen you on other s&b threads. I imagine you as Audrey Tatou so can see you looking tres chic in that dress.

MM - that thread is shocking indeed.

Bloss - have fun! We should have arranged to meet for coffee and shopping - next time

Right - off to get ready - soooo excited. And the sun is shining so definitely wearing viv dress.

Zembo · 17/07/2010 06:57

So the day of the first ever A&W meetup has dawned! Lovely and sunny here in Nottingham, so hopefully should be a lot better in the big smoke. HAVE A FABULOUS TIME LADIES.

Tracey we're celebrating my Dd's 4th birthday next weekend. Just a small tea party at home for 4 of her friends (cos she's 4 ). Very traditional here too Notyummy Its a flower and butterfly theme. I'm planning to get them to decorate plant pots and plant sunflower seeds. Need the weather to be good. I was up making decorations last night. Still need to decide on a cake (all a bit last minute Jo compared to you). Hope you're party goes well and the weather holds out - forecast is dry anyway. Your menu sounds just right. Also Anne of Green Gables is ace!- must try to find that easy version for my DD. The rasberry dress is indeed gorgeous, esp for the money.

Dolcee totally agree that life only throws us what we can cope with, so Bunny you will be fine. I was disappointed at both my first scans that I wasn't having twins!

Hi Plum well done on that VB dress - lovely!

Marsha hope you enjoyed your night out

Zembo · 17/07/2010 06:59

Tracey what shoes will you wear? I often think of you wearing heals all the time and wonder how you manage. On shopping trips I sometimes start out in heals and then switch to the havs I have stuffed in my handbag

traceybath · 17/07/2010 07:03

NY - hope party goes well!

Zembo - We've got in-laws staying next weekend and then more coming for little tea-party/bbq on sunday. I have already purchased Bee cake decorations and am contemplating bunting too - which i know is frowned upon on mn but hey - I like it. And for me its fun getting to do girl stuff after 2 boys. Although signs are that Bea is going to be a bit of a tomboy.

JustBeachy · 17/07/2010 07:42

I am more of a lurker on here but wanted to say bunny you'll be fine - I have twins and can honestly say it has been nothing but lovely! I've known loads of peeps who have had way more hassle with a single baby than i ever had. And seeing them share a cot is the cutest thing ever! Check out TAMBA for a twin/multiple forum if you fancy it, they do local meets etc too - i've not ever used it but might help if you want to talk to others in your position.

Good luck!

OllieWollieWoo · 17/07/2010 07:44

I love bunting too Tracey! Have it up for bdays only but if had a girl it would be the first thing I put up in their room!

For those of you at the meet up - have a lovely, lovely time! You are all going to looking amazingly stylish! Please post all the details! I will have a few glasses of cava in your honour later.

Not quite the same as Anne of Green Gables but I have got DS1 a Tom and Jerry dvd for his bday at the beginning of August. We watched one at the house on holiday and he roared and roared. We are having 2 celebrations - one for his little group of English friends and another for his Ducth school friends - just couldn't seem them mixing well cos of the language thing! The only date the English group can make is his actual b-day - the afternoon of the day we return from our holiday to Norfolk (overnight ferry) so v limited prep time! Goodies from M&S I think and will save the homemade cake for the Dutch party! DS1 wants a rocket ship!

Zembo · 17/07/2010 08:02

Another bunting lover here - my DD has it up in her bedroom and I think it looks lovely. I've found some long flower garland/ bunting type things in John Lewis so we're using that for our little party.
