Thanks to ltec for the new title.

My dad met my dh for the first time 2 years ago. We've been together for 14 years.
Oddly he seems to be trying to charm his way in now I have dcs. I really don't know what to do.

LetThemEatCake · 27/05/2010 18:16

oh hf that must be really sad and difficult.

hells also at your birthday text

My dad decided not to come to my wedding, about 3 days before the event. I decided not to care as it was unlikely that he would add to the happiness of my day but quite conceivable that he would detract from it.

whelk that is a tough call. Do you think your children would benefit from the relationship. I think that's how I'd be looking at it, prob acc to the same principles as I applied to my wedding thing.

re: the tee, I can't remember your proportions but I am 8-10 up top and went for the 10 (to accommodate my huge generous hips and I'd say I prob could've gone the 8. But it doesn't lose anything from being slightly voluminous, esp when balanced with skinny jeans. HTH.

blossoming · 27/05/2010 18:22

Sorry to hear of all your troubles re fathers.

LetThemEatCake · 27/05/2010 18:23

bloss how's that book? any use?

cupparooibos · 27/05/2010 18:34

went back to lurking as have nothing to contribute at the moment but depressing mall-trawling . . .

hf128219 my dad has Alzheimer's too diagnosed nearly six years ago now. He's on Ebixa and Atacand and the disease's progression does seem to have been slowed by them, although they're very expensive and only partly covered by insurance here. I also got him onto turmeric capsules (from health food store) there's some evidence it might help clear the plaques they think cause Alzheimer's.
some details on that here (scroll down) you may have heard about this already BBC did a story last year.

Sad for you and your dad.

carciofi · 27/05/2010 18:55

Marsha, that top is so pretty.

DH is bathing DD while I am making dinner, so thought I'd check in quickly.

LTEC, hope your dad's visit goes ok.

My fil has only seen DD once.

hf128219 and cupparooibos, sorry about your fathers.

Blossoming, I wore the M&S Blossoming top yesterday and my friend liked it so much, I'm going to order it for her as well. I also have the pink Boden top.

Does anyone know how much Tod's pashmy bags are (the nylon ones)?

Notyummy, I am not pushed about SATC either, I will probably get it out on DVD but won't be going to see it in the cinema.

OK, back to dinner.

cupparooibos · 27/05/2010 19:21

Thanks carciofi, that's sweet of you.

Tod's Pashmy Easy Shopping and Easy Saccas are both US$825 (Neiman's / Bergdorf's) if that is any help getting a sense of the price range (though you are in Ireland I believe.) Love Tod's. Recently bought (but am returning) this bag an incredible deal (no dustbag or box hardly important but might be why?), but looked really silly on me when it arrived and I tried it on . . . . Am telling myself it's because it was stiffer than expected and I only seem to suit squashy handbags, but it could also be because I look crap lately.

Anyway, a heads-up on that as it should be arriving back at Yoox HQ any day now . . . !

FritziGreenEyes · 27/05/2010 19:25

Sorry about difficult fathers. Must be very stressful.

notyummy - thanks for the compliment. I am always a bit self-conscious when talking to English native speakers. I did English literature at university and DH claims I sometimes use words from Shakespeare plays that confuse everyone. Which of course is not true: The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 19:41

Sorry about everyone's dads. I must say I've learned a lot of shocking things about the men of the world from mn. Have you ever looked at the 'relationships' section? Really astonishing.

Fritzi I had assumed you were an educated native speaker of English living in Germany. And I am a pedant when it comes to grammar.

FritziGreenEyes · 27/05/2010 20:03

Roma - thank you so much. A compliment was just what I needed today. This morning I baked and decorated 36 fairy cakes for DD's kindergarten group and hulled 3 punnets of strawberries. On top of that I had to finish commenting on a really bad manuscript for work by lunchtime and by the time I got home with DD I was totally shattered.

I'm so looking forward to the weekend. Tomorrow DH goes to London and I have already ordered Grazia, Red Magazine and Twinings Lemon&Ginger teabags . After DDs birthday party on Saturday I will collapse on the sofa with my magazines and a bottle glass of wine.

Just read the jumpsuit thread from last night and feel inspired. Will check out links now!

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 20:16

Lovely pics on this blog of London dressed up for the Chelsea Flower Show.

Fritzi have you got unshiftable dark red stuff stuck down all your nails from the strawbs? I have that.

LetThemEatCake · 27/05/2010 20:17

meant to say ... still hunting for a grey dipped-hem vest, if anyone sees one. Not too dress-like but definitely of a tunic-y length please. This one that fleecy recommended came today and is lovely but just too voluminous which is such a shame as the fabric is great, the price was totally bargainous and it features exposed zips, for which I am always a sucker.

'tis very odd that I've not seen one in H&M ... they have grey tees in the exact style and length that I want - but I don't want sleeves!!

on a positive note - anyone had any lovely compliments today?

blossoming · 27/05/2010 20:30

Yes ltec, I'm on a roll. Dh and colleague popped in at tea time on way back to train and devoured some home made scones and bara brith (welsh teacake thing). Colleague said I looked 'terrific'. Was that appropriate?
Love the book, has given me great ideas. Thanks again.
hf, I love the way you just casually pop in to Harrods. Such glamour...
carciofi, any snogs in the top?

LetThemEatCake · 27/05/2010 20:35

rufus thanks so much for thinking of me and that gorgeous dress. I am actually really hankering for some yellow but the next designer thing I buy has to be from m-w. I have a credit note that needs to be used and can't justify NaP/ Matches etc until I've spent it.

FritziGreenEyes · 27/05/2010 20:40

Roma - I used a nailbrush to get rid of the red gunk under my nails. I once had a trace of chilli trapped under my fingernail and wiped my eye with it... ouch!

Fleecy · 27/05/2010 21:03

Two people liked my shoes today. Works for me, especially since they were the bargainous £10 New Look peep-toe shoe boots! And both of the commentees (making up words again) were fashion-loving girls in their 20s. Yay!

The khaki skinny trousers on this page arrived today. They're ankle length on me but it looks intentional so I'll keep 'em. Also bought this which is a bit trashy but I like it!

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 21:05

tut tut cake, split infinitive: 'to always double-check'

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 21:08

Recently I've really not been getting any compliments apart from dh and dcs.

(They're probably all thinking 'oh no, there's that grammar pedant again' )

roary · 27/05/2010 21:10

bloss how did the 7/8 trousers fit?? I have ordered and was soooo excited because they looked skinny. I know yours were generally too big but am dismayed to hear they might be baggy.

Am also dipping toe into world of maxis with the navy knot one also from White company. Anyone have one? Am keen on wafting but still nervous re potential maternity look. Also thought could wear it In December in australia if summer is already over. ltec will you be in Sydney by then?

I feel for those of you with complex dad relationships. I think there is so much focus on mother/daughter probs and relationships we forget father/daughter and yhe huge impact it has. I am v lucky with mine and again remind myself of this when faced with the inlaws. You can't have everything! And I really can't imagine losing him to something like alzheimers.

hf128219 · 27/05/2010 21:12

cuppa thank you for that link. Sorry about your father too.

Also thank you ladies for your kind words.

Bloss I can assure you there is nothing glamorous about my life. I went into Harrods to use up the cash I had on my rewards card before the end of the month. Bought some Jo Malone goodies as a present for the friends we are staying with this weekend.

When I got home I took off my skirt as it was feeling a little tight. Sometime later the doorbell rang and I opened the door - to dh's driver (not as glamorous as it sounds) forgetting I had no skirt on - luckily I was wearing some black opaque tights.

He was very professional and didn't bat an eyelid.

25 May 21.05, post from Romanarama

Don't tell anyone, but it looks like I might have a job - workwear will rear it's head again!! I do think it matters what other people wear a bit MrsJuan, I quite often shudder at the horrible outfits in my office (there's no hip maxi vibe about the long flowery skirts).

straight back atcha baby

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 21:19

(Own up - how long did you spend looking for that?)

LetThemEatCake · 27/05/2010 21:21

I noticed it the other night and thought how out of character it was, and an indication of how frazzled you must be by the prospect of gong back to work!

so was easy to find it. Sorry. Mean and puerile.

roary · 27/05/2010 21:22

Ha ha at roma not for the grammar (also pedant who slips up but I blame iPhone) but for orig post I just read properly. You should see what passes for appropriate workwear with my colleagues let alone what passes for style. Knee length crocheted vests over mom waist trousers has been one fave. And all the others you mention!

blossoming · 27/05/2010 21:23

roary, I'm afraid they were really not skinny at all. They were like a fc pair I had for work in 2003 (shudders). Also the person in charge of colour description knew nothing of welsh slate. They were grey.
Hopefully a better fit will be more successful on you.

Problem is I really want a skinny pair of slate 7/8's now. Who can magic some up for me I wonder!
