Thanks to ltec for the new title.

NY - I haven't seen the first one, rarely watched the TV series and hate Carrie Bradshaw with a passion.

not too keen on the others either, although Samantha makes me laugh

will join you in the dunce's corner.

CHOOGIRL · 27/05/2010 08:40

I love SATC although the reviews have been so so. Have some Choos waiting for me at Harvey Nicks. Will post link later as on iPhone. cake there is a Vero modo in Bromley opposite Karen Millen. Am looking forward to our meet up but getting slightly anxious that in real life I look quite ordinary and nothing like the Halle Berry cake has visualised. Is 6 weeks enough time to book in for plastic surgery?

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 09:03

Relax Choo, I definitely definitely do not look intimidating, so you can sit with me if you like!

I really enjoy SATC. Partly I have fond memories that it was on HBO at 10.30pm every night when I was living in Beijing with newborn ds1 and that was my regular evening bf appointment!! Also I find it entertaining and the clothes are great to look at. Carrie is totally annoying, but the other 3 are fun. I enjoyed the first film, though only got round to seeing it about 2 months ago.

Yes cake dh is Italian, crazy for high heels and designer clothes, and enjoys shopping. Harvey Nichols is his must-go-to destination when we're in London. (I'm making him sound v.superficial - he's actually massively clever and works 60-hr weeks. But there's that special Italian-man aesthetic thing about him)

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 09:05

Now, I'm spending the morning looking for an Italian au pair who: wants to live in Brussels; is nice; loves small boys and bouncy dogs; has fabulous employer references; will enjoy cooking my dinner every day. Whaddya think - long shot?

MarshaBrady · 27/05/2010 09:12

I was in Boston when I watched SATC first time so reminds me of excellent visits to New York. Haven't seen first movie or series for ages, find Carrie a bit drone-y but love the good clothes.

OllieWollieWoo · 27/05/2010 09:27

Meant to say - the amazing apartment Carrie and Big live in in SITC2 is my dream bolt hole - lovely furniture, good use of wallpaper and a cool coffee table that has a ridge round the edge of it for books to stand in - v chic! Oh yes, and the walk in closet - swoon!

Promise to stop going on about the film now - must pack for trip over. What should one wear to see The Gruffalo so you think????!!!!!
Good luck with your Dad LTEC.

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 09:39

Gruffalo: Jeans and breton I'd say. (Presuming it's not a hot evening date? ).

What do you think of this hareem jumpsuit ? I'm thinking it's 2 trends in one so a bargain??

blossoming · 27/05/2010 09:45

Morning everyone. (Feeling a little worse for wear..)

Outfit was the nap-a-likey. It was fabulous. I felt a million dollars. DH went wild for the jbrands with the heels combo. I always worry about belly overhang when sitting down in squashy sofas, but I would have paid £120 for that so flattering £12 top. I was really confident, and dh snogged me (again) this morning saying he was so lucky to have me and I was sexy and witty and great company. What more can I ask for?

ltec, good luck with your dad. Afraid the weather turned nasty here yesterday afternoon, and I had to change out of the combats and put fly boots on. My mum liked them though, as did my brother who came to visit with his daughter, so cute, almost 1.

traceyb hope you have a lovely holiday.

I knew the answers to all the questions about SATC when I went on the tour bus in New York back in 2003! Because I was a teacher and used to spend long holidays in DH's place (before we were married), he bought me all the box sets to keep me occupied during the day. I think the series tackled real themes that were relevant to me. I had been single for a while and lived on my own in the city, earning good money (for Wales). Anyway, I will probably see the new film sometime. The first I saw on my own and cried real tears at the Miranda and Steve storyline. Made me think how important it is to nurture your relationship.

Anyway, back to clothes, but feel free to look away now, last week when I was hot and had nothing to wear with my denim skirt apart from my joules polo, I bought this in the blue and this in the pink. Think campsite chic.
They arrived this morning, and I am beyond pleased.

I am such a plonker - sat here thinking where is babysitter and then double-check my booking and I've only booked her for tomorrow!

So have had to cancel beauticians and will now be doing diy hair removal/fake tan/pedicure. Have also spend a very stressful half an hour trying to locate DH's driving licence.

Lovely day here though.

hellsbelles · 27/05/2010 09:48

morning all,

Tracey have fun at the beauticians.

Choo looking forward to the links...and OWW glad you enjoyed the film!

LTEC - you clever thing you! I got the coggles delivery and love love love the easy blue dress (firetrap) and the pretty emily and finn one (my stupid computer isn't letting me do links but hopefully you remember)...both were blue. Thing is I wouldn't have ordered them without your guidance and that's why I'm so thrilled.

I did order a couple of things from Orion but have realised their current crop of things are way too short of my old legs. They are all above mid thigh on me so just not right.

I also have had a few successes from M&S - I did a tentative order (expecting to have to send the whole lot back) but there were a few keepers. Will do links when I can.

All this frugality is good for the soul but i feel another NAP order coming on!

Sorry I missed previous mention that you were seeing your Papa! Not sure of the background but hope it goes well. I have a rather errant father. He sent me a lovely birthday messsage 'My darling girl - I celebrate the day you came into existance'....4 days late (i.e. he didn't know my actual birthday)...which is pretty typical - very charming...but utterly useless.

FritziGreenEyes · 27/05/2010 09:50

LTEC - I always stress about what to wear whenever I see my parents (which is not often). I'm about your Blochs. I have been hunting for black ballet flats for ages...

OWW - I am going to see SATC2 next week. I convinced my friend to see the English original. Couldn't bear to watch the dubbed version. Carrie speaks German in a high squeaky voice and that makes it completely unbearable. Whereabout in the Netherlands are you?

Roma - good luck with the AuPair! I'm sure if you mention your wardrobe you won't have problems finding someone. Maybe put a lock on?

MarshaBrady · 27/05/2010 09:52

I was thinking of getting this. Nice or no?

FritziGreenEyes · 27/05/2010 09:54

blossoming - can you please link to the snog-inducing top you wore last night? maybe that could tempt my DH too... can't really remember last proper snog

bodsmum · 27/05/2010 10:05

ooof..just got through marathon postings..so many interesting topics covered but time pressed for too much comment.

just wanted to say huge well done to VB..the bit about your portfolio pics from when you were 11 brought a tear to my eye.

quick query for LTEC..I too want to bf in strapless dresses(including day dresses)..how do you negotiate this without major flashing/what do I do bra-wise/do other people ever comment...though of course gorge weather already disappeared from my part of london.also hope all goes well with your dad.

OllieWollieWoo · 27/05/2010 10:24

Fritzi - altho Blossoming is far too modest to admit it, this here is now what is referred to in elite fashion circles (ie W&A) as The Blossong Top. I'm picking mine up from store on Saturday - am looking forward to a few snogs from DH next week when I wear it

I'm based in The Hague in Holland - lovely city to love in - near beach, lots of restaurants and other expat. DH is Dutch so its a permanant move - unlike lots of my expat mates who have all started to move away - sob! Where are you in Germany?

notyummy · 27/05/2010 10:29

Marsha - love that top!

Just back from presenting to the Chinese delegation. Had to pose for one million photos and was given a pressie! Beautiful silk scarf....that I will have declare in our 'hospitality register' for propriety purposes of course.....

bunnymother · 27/05/2010 10:40

Hi! Have been reading (most) of the thread, but not great at posting lately. Before I run off again, wanted to say:

Roma - congratulations!!!!!1 BTW there was a compliment for you from me in the last thread...

Verity - also, congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!

WONDERFUL news for both of you!!

MarshaBrady · 27/05/2010 10:42

Thanks Notyummy! It is pretty I think.

Bravo on the beautiful silk scarf!

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 10:47

ny we have a collection of some of the most extraordinarily hideous things you could imagine, that were gifts in China. We kept the worst for a laugh! V. common in the 90s was the 'kitten plate', a sort of transparent display plate with a picture of a cute fluffy kitten suspended in the middle of it

I really miss China shopping - silk and cashmere practically for nothing. The pearl markets are also fantastic - ladies will whip you up any design of jewellery with pearls and other semi-precious stones - you just have to take a photo and watch their hands fly.

notyummy · 27/05/2010 10:51

Roma - it sounds like I was lucky then! Having said that, I think DD would LOVE a kitten plate so it could have gone to a good home. My mum and dad lived in Hong Kong and Singapore for 3 years (a LONNNGG time ago now; in fact I was conceived there!) and my mum has always talked about the dressmakers and tailors and how clever they were. She still has a couple of the dresses from that era and they are lovely, but don't fit her now and won't work on me as I am nearly 6 inches taller than her.

Romanarama · 27/05/2010 11:05

Thanks bunnymother! (Roma wonders whether she's desperate enough for compliments to trawl through last thread....)

ny it's still worth the trip to China just to buy fabric, go to the tailors, and buy furniture.

FritziGreenEyes · 27/05/2010 11:14

OWW - I actually love Holland (for holidays have never lived there). We went to Katwijk last summer as my BIL is half Dutch. The reception was held in one of the beach restaurants and it was great!

We are based near Frankfurt. It is only 20 minutes by car but feels quite rural (could hear frogs croaking outside last night...). DH and I are both German (as you might have gathered from my misuse of English prepositions ) but DH works in an English speaking environment. Most people think he is American. Not sure if that is a good thing

Got to run and pick up DD. Will wear leather jacket it is cold today!

notyummy · 27/05/2010 11:16

Fritzi - your English is excellent. As someone who can just about order a meal in broken French and no more, I am am always impressed by others who have much more mastery of languages. We are lazy in this country and should start learning languages much earlier at school IMHO.

FritziGreenEyes · 27/05/2010 11:16

And thanks for the link to the Blossong top. Looks great!

Whelk · 27/05/2010 11:27

Good luck with your dad Cakey. I have a highly complex (to put it politely) relationship with my mostly absent useless father. Love your outfit though. In fact I'm going to order the tee.
