Thanks to ltec for the new title.

ny I lived and worked in China for years. Boring suits are the norm, but wear scarlet if you'd like them to feel you made a special effort. (As in a red top under your black suit rather than a whole clown outfit!)

Mumsnut · 26/05/2010 17:15

See A&O? I told you. Advice AND 25% off!

FritziGreenEyes · 26/05/2010 19:14

I think I could manage the Shrek DVD . Don't know if it would have any positive effects on my body shape...

Fleecy · 26/05/2010 19:16

florence I have a Burberry trench on my I-will-buy-it-one-day list. As someone else said earlier, it seems like such a lot to spend in one go, but they are classic and go with so much. I currently just have a Gap one that's a touch longer so I can wear it with above the knee skirts and it's very versatile.

All this talk of the VW is tempting me. Must resist as I really don't need it and wouldn't get enough wear out of it to justify the cost!

hells if I could bring that sun back out, I would, believe me! I tanned this morning - what a waste!

notyummy · 26/05/2010 19:21

Thanks for the tip Roma! As an auburn, I have precisely no scarlet items, however I do have a red (ish) scoop neck top that i have dug out of the wardrobe following your advice.

traceybath · 26/05/2010 20:06

I love love love that burberry trench - and you know its the same price as a mulberry handbag and cheaper than the new Sprouse/LV scarves. I suspect it would pay for itself on a cpw basis over the years.

LTEC - where are you?

Esher - I tried on the bandeau maxi in navy in the white co today. I wasn't convinced to be honest - I do find their clothes can be just a little frumpy. Well actually the manager in my local shop said oh we design for the older woman with lumps and bumps to cover and i must confess that has ever so slightly put me off.

I don't think it was any nicer in fact probably not as nice as the DP version at half the price.

Have been busy packing today - lordy - god knows what I'm taking as just sorting out all the dc's stuff. Plus as we're doing a villa - not as though I'm going to be strutting my stuff in the evenings in front of an appreciative audience - only DH and if its low or short he'll be happy.

carciofi · 26/05/2010 20:29

I love that Burberry trench.

Congratulations, Verity and Romana!

I liked [[http://www.thewhitecompany.com/productdetails.aspx?Id=1000836&ItemNo=DECIC&SelectedItem=DECIC] this White co top I tried on today but didn't buy it in the end. I saw a really nice pair of red jeans in the window of Calvin Klein but DD was shouting so we had to beat a hasty retreat.

carciofi · 26/05/2010 20:32

Oops, this White co top

Tracey, hope you have a great holiday! DH working from home tomorrow so won't get on the computer (and I have a useless Blackberry, not an iPhone).

LetThemEatCake · 26/05/2010 21:32

hellooooo everyone!!

uncharacteristically absent .. spent last night with hair removal cream, ped egg and nail varnish on Skype to girlfriends back home ... was so fabulous and life affirming, like SATC but without the frocks, whiny voices or winsome staring into the middle distance

Massive congrats to verity and roma - lots of big, exciting changes afoot, have no doubt that you wise, avid, together ladies will have it all under control.

Must be something in the air as I have also just accepted a couple of commissions ... I know I said I was going to take it easy for a while but have been feeling a touch bored. Sleep when you're dead, eh.

So ... on that note I will dash and go off to Bradshaw the night away but not before I say hello & welcome to any delurkers - nice that our little family is growing and do you realise that this thread has been going since mid-Jan?? rock on!!

Roma I note that you are in London for all of July, does this mean that you can come on the 17th??

finally: these arrived and are going back - very insipid colour, shame as 30% discount was good ... these in black are great but also going back as mum is bringing them over from Australia (cheaper) ... she could also bring me these and I am sorely tempted as I love pink and purple .. the shop is holding them for her until tomorrow, what say you? I am thinking mum of 3 young children = you can never have too many flats??

Romanarama · 26/05/2010 21:36

Yes, they're lovely, get them. Beware your husband's reaction if you spend your whole time in flats though!

I will most likely indeed be in the vicinity on 17/7. What was the plan?

LetThemEatCake · 26/05/2010 21:38

my dh?? why?? what reaction?

think plan was drinks in some suitably stylish bar before TB gets the late train back - T?? is that right??

FritziGreenEyes · 26/05/2010 21:41

LTEC - love the pink/purple Blochs! Will be great for summer.

Have placed order with White Company tonight. Will report back when the clothes have been delivered. Delivery will take up to 14 days though as I don't live in the UK anymore (sob...)

Romanarama · 26/05/2010 21:42

Not yours in particular, just men ime. My dh, for example, has started to get visibly dismayed at my addiction to flat shoes.

I think we should get guestlisted somewhere incredibly fashionable. Who can sort that out?

Romanarama · 26/05/2010 21:43

Sorry, will stick to talking about my own husband, having not met anyone else's

Where do you live Fritz

FritziGreenEyes · 26/05/2010 21:50

Germany. But I don't have hairy legs and I swear I don't have that horrible accent when I speak English .

DH and I used to live in London for a long time and I really miss it sometimes! I visit twice a year though to shop and meet friends.

LetThemEatCake · 26/05/2010 21:51

a-ha! I was wondering how you managed to go to a Vero Moda shop.

Roma - your dh is Italian isn't he?

rufus101 · 26/05/2010 21:52

Gosh NY that will be hard when your DH goes away for that length of time. DH is never home till about 9 or after and I find it very hard with 3 small DC. Also work f/t, so I feel I come home and still am working hours later. Not an option for me to not work or work less, it's not that kind of job. And if I stepped out, I wouldn't get back in. Am in a senior role now, wheras up till 2 years ago was working less hours, and boy do I feel the difference. Hence all the online shopping or else I'd never get to a shop in RL! Well done Verity on the job. It sounds so exciting. My dream job. I've moved house twice in the last 6 years, and used to go around permanently with a tape measure to measure up anything that caught my fancy on the hop! Was in a shop today, and saw a sideboard, and said to the guy "can you give me the measurements of that? It's about 1.2 mts isn't it?" He said (snootily) "no, it's shorter than that" taking out his tape, but I.Was.Right. Felt curiously triumphant!
Saw this on matches LTEC and thought of you would work it well.this Would look fabulous on someone tall and dark.(Not me, dark but short arse)
BTW NY think that Jigsaw suit is the very same as the one I have from about 10 years ago in dark grey. It's always a winner isn't it? Will look great with the dark red top to brighten it up.

FritziGreenEyes · 26/05/2010 22:07

Vero Moda must be the only shop we have here and you don't have in the UK. I'm really glad there is online shopping.

It is already past eleven here and I need to go to bed. Have to work tomorrow and DH is off to somewhere on an early flight.

Night all!

OllieWollieWoo · 26/05/2010 22:49

Hi - just run in from the SITC2 showing. One word - fabulous! Some real laugh out loud moments (along with a few eyebrow raising one - in a 'did they really just do/say that?' kind of way!). Kim Cattrell is on form - but all my friends and I agreed that Carrie was just annoying - she is quite self centred and naggy in this film and it grated a bit. Clothes/shoes amazing - as expected! Highlights for me were a wedding, the phrase "take a sip" and a butler called Abdul! Wont say anymore......

Fritzi - we are kindred spirits! I live in Holland having moved here from London and I still miss it 4 years later! I have become a bit of Dutch bore on this thread but shopping here is pants compared to UK! Agree re online shopping - its my saviour!
Verity big congratulations on the college place - v exciting for you esp as its obviously going to be something you are going to enjoy doing.

Nearly midnight here so signing off. Nigh all.

florenceuk · 26/05/2010 22:52

I am sure a Burberry trench is more suited to Roma's lifestyle as highflying jetsetting consultant than mine as minor (albeit now senior) civil servant. Today we were told no more tea and coffee for meetings, and no more newspapers and magazines! The Barbour trench actually looks good, if not as snappy. However I might still head off to the Burberry shop on Regent st and pretend to be a wealthy tourist just trying things on!

blossoming · 26/05/2010 23:37

Just back from my meal out. My outfit was a winner!

traceybath · 27/05/2010 06:42

Yeay Blossoming!

Just checking in quickly before school run and got babysitter coming this morning so I can whizz to beauticians.

OWW - I so want to see SATC. Choo - are you off there tonight and what was the final outfit decision?

hf128219 · 27/05/2010 07:31

tracey Have a fab - and well deserved holiday!

roman excellent news re job. A lot to think about.

Have a great day ladies.

notyummy · 27/05/2010 08:02

Do I get ceremonially chucked off the thread if I say that I have no desire at all to see SATC? I know we have people here lucky enough to go to the premiere, which I am sure was great, and I like looking at the clothes in the magazines, but the idea of the films leave me cold. Did watch (and enjoy) some of the TV series though.

Not knocking them btw for those who have seen/about to see it! OWW - glad you enjoyed it.

I worry that this somehow disqualifies me from the W & A thread, and I will have to think of some other way of prooving my credentials!

Have a good day all.

LetThemEatCake · 27/05/2010 08:10

great news blossoming - was that the dress you made or your NaP-inspired outfit?

and how did the UO combats go down on the school run?

tracey - enjoy some pampering!!

find myself in a flap over clothes this morn as I prepare to see my father .

have opted for skinny indigo jeans, this stripe tee and the Bloch black pumps which I am now keeping as it turns out the Aussie store don't have them in my size. (they do however have the purple/ fuschia ones so I will get them in a few weeks when mum arrives)

with a trench. Weather looks iffy.

have a good day all
