Credit to Everything for the lovely new title!

LetThemEatCake · 02/05/2010 20:38

I have just realised that he probably hasn't bought me any presents and was trying to butter me up.

when will I stop being such a sucker for a compliment.

nearly time for a new thread!! Hope you're all thinking of potential titles ...

esher totally with you on despair at OP's refusal to get dressed up. That 40th I went a few weeks ago in my MJ dress? It was in a tres swish restaurant, private room etc etc and people were wearing things that I'd not deem acceptable for the school run

traceybath · 02/05/2010 20:42

Never knowingly underdressed - thats us

eshermummy · 02/05/2010 20:45

ooooooooh Cakey - you really were very near me then as we are not far from the high street
Bernard - stocks a lot of big name stuff, used to be all Chloe/Stella McCartney mega-bucks but they now seem to be stocking some younger (and cheaper) stuff like Acne. Also lots of See by C and M by MJ.
TBH I don't go in there much as I find

  1. It is too expensive and a lot of it is to me unwearable wag-tastic evening wear of which I have no need
  2. The assistants are very snooty and all over my case when I go in and I always feel under pressure to buy. I would never ever trust them to give an honest opinion, having seen them tell other people how great something looks/fits when it sooo does not.
Nice but small shoe selection though and the sales can be good.

Further up the road on the other side is Club - apparently owned by a real life WAG but the clothes are much younger/edgier - Sass&Bide, Twenty8Twelve, Elizabeth &James - have picked up some great sale bargains here too.
Opposite Bernard is O'Keefe - staff much more down to earth and friendlier, less pressure, more helpful. Stocks more affordable stuff incl Day Birger, Farhi, Paul Smith, Alice by Temperley. Slightly yummy-mummy-tastic.

And that, my dear, is Esher shopping in a nutshell

Were you visiting your IL's

This is actually my hometown (moved back here 3 years ago) so I went to school around here and I must be more or less same age as your DH (1973) so am intrigued......

OllieWollieWoo · 02/05/2010 20:46

LOL Traceybath - maybe that should be the new thread title???!!!!!!!!! (Seriously!)

Good point re skinnies and WS top.

OP posts:
eshermummy · 02/05/2010 20:48

Cake - Sorry, have just realised you were meeting your glam friend for lunch down here, not IL's - yes?

notyummy · 02/05/2010 20:49

Oh God! I LOVE to dress up, but we live in a small market town and the opportunities are extremely limited. We used to go to loads of work social events that were formal and I could wear loads of of fab dresses (were military 'dos' though so no rats etc unfortunately - think more cool wedding outfits.) Dh now moved to a different post with much less social life so that outlet has been taken away from me! Tend to dress up for work instead.

I saw this and thought it could be a contender for you rats ladies.

Am also liking this

I love this but on someone more tanned and slimmer than me. Prob quite tall too.

Also, anyone looking for a good value plain maxi - I have this in black and am thinking of getting it in another colour as it hangs nicely.

MarshaBrady · 02/05/2010 20:49

Lol Tracey! That's a good one! (back later).

monkeysmama · 02/05/2010 20:50

Hello Tracey lessons going ok though I was very nervous this morning having not driven for a week. It went fine though I am not exactly enjoying it. The foot I have on the gas gets so achy. I'm doing well though apparently and as long as I can drive to the forest by the end of summer I'll be happy. Thank you for asking .

What's the cliquey stuff about? Did wonder if anyone would think that.

Am smiling at those of you with lovely dps. Mine has turned into a grumpy old man since I've been away and hasn't smiled once.

Off to watch "Last stop 174" on DVD.

Night all.

eshermummy · 02/05/2010 20:51

Never knowingly underdressed.

I love it

BTW - none of you ever commented on the JL ad that i said had moved me to tears but after I posted I was over in Chat and saw that there had been a whole thread all about the very same.

OllieWollieWoo · 02/05/2010 20:53

notyummy - that may just be THE dress to pop my maxi cherry. Thank you! Wish the blue was a tad darker but the pink is lovely!

OP posts:
RedBlueRed · 02/05/2010 20:55

Esher I commented on this thread not being cliquey after seeing the comments during the week about the TDWP thread.
Someone expressed concerned so as an outsider/lurker I thought I would let you know. There is a bit of cliqueyness on MN but I suppose thats the way of it.

notyummy · 02/05/2010 20:58

oo-er OWW - not sure if I can take the responsibility!

Come over to the dark (long) side....

LetThemEatCake · 02/05/2010 20:59

Dh supposedly getting 24 ready but now faffing on laptop so I will do same

esher you may well know him! Claremont .... you?

TG not visiting ILs. Have managed to dodge that particular bullet for a while now... there are good things about dh's ridiculous working hours/ days

MM glad the driving is going well, I was a latecomer to it and still find it quite stressful but so liberating. Have to say, driving to Hersham today, alone, unsure of route, with the 3dcs in the back, in the rain, knackered me.

JL ad made me cry first time. Have toughened up since. Think it's an odd choice of song though no?

traceybath · 02/05/2010 21:03

I don't like the JL ad - although to be fair had read the thread on here first especially the bits about the song lyrics.

LTEC - is that the new episode of 24? I can't see it on itunes yet - taps fingers impatiently.

eshermummy · 02/05/2010 21:09

We were in Hersham today too Cake, went to look at the steam fair on the green but was too cold (actually I felt too tired and hungover) to actually get out.

Not Claremont, I went to school in Kingston.

I recently started driving again after a (intentional) gap of 15 years Not mad keen on driving myself but agree is liberating although I only currently drive in about a radius of about 6 miles from my house (driving phobic).

LetThemEatCake · 02/05/2010 21:10

my god!! we were on one of the streets off the green!! Burhill Road.

Tis actually quite a spooky feeling to know that one of my style gurus was so close by

tracey am a few eps behind - think I am about to watch the sad one of which you spoke

eshermummy · 02/05/2010 21:11

Cain - thanks for clarifying. Was worried there had been negative comments about the thread.

RedBlueRed · 02/05/2010 21:13

Can anyone tell me about the sizing for these?
I'm concerned that it seems to keep riding up on the model in the video but I like the fact that it has matching dress etc.

blossoming · 02/05/2010 21:18

Someone needs to tell me right now what TDWP stands for!!!!!!
No one explained the other night and now it's starting again. Grrrr!
Dh on phone with mil. Might be some time....

OllieWollieWoo · 02/05/2010 21:24

The Devil Wears Primark blossoming. Is it bad MN form to explain what happened?

OP posts:
eshermummy · 02/05/2010 21:24

Blossoming - it stands for The DevilWearsPrimark who is a poster that was involved in a misunderstanding or disagreement with some other posters on MN that was played out over the last few days. I think the threads have now been deleted but in those threads there was a suggestion that some threads operated as cliques and excluded others.

RedBlueRed · 02/05/2010 21:27

I don't know if its bad form but it feels a little like talking about people behind their backs iykwim.

I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding and it seemed like everyone got involved on a thread about it but I only read a few posts so can't explain any more than that.

eshermummy · 02/05/2010 21:27

OWW - I hope I haven't overstepped MN etiquette by explaining but I didn't think Blossoming would be any the wiser and may actually think it was to do with Primark the retailer given that this is a S&B thread!!!!
