Hi all, hope you're going to send him a big list roman

Like the maxi allbuggiedout

Sorry about the non arrival of SIL blossoming

Don't blame you for giving in to zebra top temptation hells - love it

Can I ask for opinions on this dress for a wedding. It's SILs wedding and it's an informal do in a 15th century chapel on Gozo. She's already said that DH shouldn't wear a suit, just light trousers and shirt, so not a smart do. We'll have been over there for a week so the turqoise would look fab with my (hopefully) golden skin and sun-bleached hair. Would pair with gold glads. I adore the dress but wonder if it's a bit short, even for a relaxed wedding? SIL a fan of bum-skimming dresses herself so don't suppose she'd mind but don't want to be gynaecologically (sp?) inappropriate!

AllBuggiedOut · 17/04/2010 18:50

Love the colour of the FC dress, Fleecy. I've seen it in the shops and it looks to hang a little oddly on the hanger - the fabric is very thin and the beads heavy, so it pulls a bit, but might be better when on? I don't think they're frighteningly short, either, unless you are of model proportions?

Off to a bowling party this evening - thinking black skinnies, Hasbeens and French Connection black on pink oversized dots top. Presume a skirt would be a no-no...?

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 19:10

fleecy you can see from the pictures that the beading's too heavy for the fabric. I also think it's too short too, tbh. You might feel embarrassed compared to the others, or regret it when you see the photos. Not to be prudish, but it's barely knicker-length! I'll see if I can see anything similar but better

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 19:23

Have you looked at Reiss? The Grecian wrap front one is lovely, I think, and there's a sequin tank dress that also looks v.nice on the model

blossoming · 17/04/2010 19:32

Hi all,

Well ILs have left, and we had a pleasant day after all. Nice food, chilled chablis, and a long walk, then they kindly left.

So have loads of leftovers and won't need to cook for the rest of the weekend. Great stuff!

I also think that dress is a bit short fleecy. I went to a wedding once in a short linen suit (well it was back in the 90s). The pictures are horrific even though I was thin at the time.

This weather is making me think of beaches in the summer. Has anyone seen the new summer range from boden? In particular the beach throw on and the controversial beach dress.
Aargh, I can hear you screaming hideous from here.
On holiday we go to the beach in the morning and the pool in the afternoon, so it is clothes for here that is now missing in my wardrobe. I find they don't keep well after too much suntan lotion, fake tan, chlorine, salt etc.

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 19:34

I'm crazy for this Pucci dress too so go on fleecy make me happy by buying it! I know they're v.expensive, but my Puccis have ended up pretty good value. You can wear them to formal and casual things, and just around shopping or whatever. You can stick them over leggings or jeans for days when you feel like some colour, with footless tights and strappy sandals for smart/trendy, with bare-leg tights, high courts, and a posh clutch for more formal parties. The prints always cheer me up and I always get a zillion compliments. I'm such a fan. Just about all the dresses are 1000 euros in Rome, and knocked down to 600 in the sale, so go and visit (Via Borgognona) one July, even just for fun. Via Borgognona happens to be in the world's most spectacular setting too. Remind me why I don't live in Rome anymore?????

blossoming · 17/04/2010 19:34

The beach dress in blue.

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 19:38

I think they're both quite nice blossoming, but would never wear a Boden print anywhere where you're likely to see another Brit. Or anywhere probably, as I'm not that keen on those prints (I also loathe all that Orla Kiely etc). So prefer the plain one.

Fleecy · 17/04/2010 19:40

Oh dear - that's what I was afraid of. I love it and don't have anywhere else to wear it but I did wonder if I would look back at the wedding pics and feel I looked trampy!

Do you mean this one I really like it but wonder if it might be a bit heavy for September on Gozo? Have also spotted this which would look fab with summer accessories but it doesn't say how long it is! Might have to order and see. Tis always fun to try! Thanks for your wise advice

Fleecy · 17/04/2010 19:47

Funny you should say that Roman - I was looking at this yesterday but sadly, it's out of my price range. I do think Pucci has a lovely summery feel to it and should be worn with huge sunnies and an oversized hat. I am obviously drawn to blue mini dresses this year!

I love Rome - good question, why don't you live there? We could all come to visit and have a wonderful meet up

I like the dresses too Blossoming but have never yet taken the Boden plunge.

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 20:20

That is lovely isn't it.

LetThemEatCake · 17/04/2010 20:29

evening all

Roman such a shame about your Manhattan trip but glad you enjoyed your day with the boys. tracey happy birthday to mrbath and hope you have a lovely evening out tonight.

minor disappointment here - dh is going to be away working on a film for 3 weeks in May. No major drama, am used to being a media widow but was looking forward to the small thrill of going to the Chelsea Flower Show with a friend on 25th. We went last year and it was a excuse to get dressed up a bit and swan around, dinner & drinks afterwards etc. Anyway, was esp looking fwd this year as will no doubt be in need of some 'me' time when doing the single mum thing. We've got tix from 5.30 and I just assumed that I'd get a sitter for P&C and take L with me, feed him there. have him in the buggy - but no children/ babies under 5 allowed!! So I can't go. What a shame Was of course already outfit-planning

Have been pondering the satchel thing but wary of looking too Chung ... esp with newly acquired trench. Stopped at local 'vintage' store today and found lovely tan cross-body bag in 'genuine coach hide" (what is that??), definitely satchel overtones but not a satchel per se - was marked at £25 but got it for £15. Hurrah.

In keeping with promise to wear new stuff more, yesterday I wore Primark indigo skinnies, leopard print pumps, linen sand tee from Zara and charity-shop trench which worked rather well and together cost under £40 in total! Today I wore same but with biker jacket instead of trench. A bit wannabe WAG, the combo of animal print & leather, esp with the oversized OP sunnies, but I quite liked it.

blossoming why is the beach dress controversial? Glad your day with the ILs turned out okay. Fleecy I think that turquoise lovely colour on you but agree too short, esp with your height, and beading looks to be pulling

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 17/04/2010 20:36

Buggied have a great night. blossoming was it you who was asking about shoes with skinnies? I wear my Ash high tops with the top two buckles undone so that they sort of come up and over the hem of the jeans (or jean, if you will ) I think my daytime 'look', if such it can be called, is quite scruffy but that's good bc as Dolce says, I always rock up looking vaguely harassed and dishevelled but this way people don't know if I am non-coping mum or channeling my inner rock chick Skinnies, printed tees, sketchy ponytail and Ash high-tops are my Mon-Fri staple.

OP posts:
Romanarama · 17/04/2010 20:46

btw, if anyone else has been finding the flatness of their high-tops a bit uncomfy, as I was (they were giving me back-ache), know that a 'support' insole makes themn infinitely nicer to wear.

I also wear my high tops with skinnies, nearly every day.

cakey, why can't you leave Leon with a sitter - he'll be old enough not to need feeding all the time then, no? I would, and would just wake him up and force feed when I got home to avoid boob pain/leakage! Would be lovely to go to CFS - I've never been but have admired your pix!

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 20:55

I'm not planning to buy these, but thought I'd flag them up as quite nice despite being Dr Scholl!

LetThemEatCake · 17/04/2010 20:59

it's the timing roman - our tickets are 5.30-8 so he'll need his bedtime feed ...

I was pregnant with him when I went last year (American Vintage maxi ) so would have been nice to go back with him, esp as likely the last time I will go. But I am soppy like that.

By the way, I adore Rome too, have been a few times. Would love to live there, at least for a while. What's the name of that market over in the Trastevere? Many of my fave clothes were bought there. Not sure how I would do on the food front if I were to go back now...

BTW, was it you who asked about Jamie Oliver? yes, a lovely guy. Very down to earth. Filthy mouth

OP posts:
Romanarama · 17/04/2010 21:15

what do you think of these?

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 21:16

Porto Portese?

blossoming · 17/04/2010 21:20

Okay, my iPhone is doing that annoying thing again where it doesn't show who's posting.

I only called that dress controversial as it has the lowest ratings I've ever seen on boden.

Re high tops, do they suit a bigfoot like me? Shoes have always been a pgoblem. When leggings were in fashion before c 1990 I never wore them cos I didn't have footwear. People wore them sith loafers or doc ms. Dreadful look on me. I avoided by wearing 501s and converse for 5 years!

LetThemEatCake · 17/04/2010 21:24

I like those a lot Roman. Yes, that's the market

Hi blossoming Cake here. Am a size 41/42 and find Ash much more flattering than Converse, dunno why!!

OP posts:
Romanarama · 17/04/2010 21:31

I've only been to Porto Portese once and it turned out to be the beginning of the worst few weeks in recent memory. There was nothing we liked in the market (it's become v.tacky), then got home to find that the diamond in my engagement ring had fallen out. Cue endless wrangling with Bulgari (who said 'twas my fault for riding my motorbike with my engagement ring on. I have never driven a motorbike in my whole life, so was unconvinced....). They then ripped me off totally, billing me 6000 euros for the replacement diamond, which they lied and said was cost price. How do I know? Because they left the dealer receipt in with the certificate by accident: USD 2080. Moral: never, ever, ever buy anything from Bulgari, and don't skimp on insurance!

LetThemEatCake · 17/04/2010 21:36

OMG, dreadful story Roman you poor thing!

We've had a few wedding ring/ engagement ring dramas too .. have only been married 5 years and dh is on his third ring - has lost 2 surfing. He now wears a £15 piece of tin from a surf shop My engagement ring was made by a guy at Camden Market and I wanted a square blue sapphire with a tiny diamond on either side ...didn't cost the earth, obv, but wasn't a tenner .. last year in Australia, the central stone looked dirty so I took it to a jeweller to get it cleaned .. not dirty, he said - cracked. Apparently that can happen with stones like BLUE TOPAZ which apparently cost about $20!!!!!

The ring now has a sapphire. I think.

Romanarama, I'm not too keen on those clogs - I don't like the metal studs with the wood. This, of course, is just my own highly-subjective opinion.

I wore my own Hasbeen-a-like clogs today and I ended up checking them out in every reflective surface when out with dcs - am happy with them and won't ebay them after all. They are surprisingly comfortable once you get used to the extra bulk. Now I get to feel all self-congratulatory for "shopping in my wardrobe" successfully rather than buying yet more shoes.

I'm awaiting the stirrings of my next fashion-must-have obsession at present.

Romanarama · 17/04/2010 21:51

that's awful!!

(But also goes to show what a waste of money gems are really. I mean if you literally can't tell the difference then what on Earth are we paying for?)

Right, I'm off to watch Mad Men. I'm fixated by Christina Hendrick's bust - is that normal?! I'd never seen Mad Men until 2 days ago and I'm completely hooked now!
