sorry couldn't help myself

Fimbow no offence, it just rhymed

dexter I dunno ... it's an odd shape to have altered and I'm wary of it looking funny and 'wrong'. It doesn't look terrible wearing it too big but it is obvious, iyswim

thanks fleecy. I bought those sundresses from Matalan last night, plus these shorts which might look quite good with tan glads and the sand-coloured tee I got at Zara on the weekend?

You're all so exotic.

I am terribly anglo saxon, fair hair, fair skinned - dirty puddle coloured eyes.

But not too chunky/stocky - can you tell I'm still traumatised by Hana's link yesterday

LetThemEatCake · 01/04/2010 17:44

okay, just quickly before dinner: (sorry for multiple posts)

so there's been all this discussion about having 3 dcs. Now, I love having 3 dcs but I won't deny that it's bloody hard work and that it doesn't leave a lot of 'me' time. Having said that, I think I do a reasonably good job of parenting.

There's a mum at P's nursery. She has one dc, with whom she seems constantly cross and short. It's usual at the nursery to stick around for a while (if you/ your child wants) and I generally do, just to read a story and whatnot. It's nice for dc2 ,too as he is so close to P, and will be starting there after the summer. This mum also gets cross with her dc if she wants a story and generally seems quite frazzled most of the time. She even yelled at nursery staff and her daughter the other day when she was sent home for having suspected scarlet fever, shouting "I've got a million and one things to do today!"

The other day, I had a 'situation' where dcs 1& 2 both needed the loo, I had the babe in arms, struggling to hold him while assisting with bottom-wiping etc. She was in the loos with her dc. She looked at me and said - in quite a, I dunno, narky way, "It's sooo good having you around.. you remind me of how glad I am that I only have one." I was feeling irritable, as I generally do when there are too many people in a confined space so I snapped "why?? do I make it look so terrible??"

She didn't exactly answer .. just sort of muttered something about the fact that she wouldn't be able to cope ... but I felt really annoyed!! I over-reacted didn't I??
BTW, she is the mother in my blog who was eating lots at the pub night

LTEC she sounds just rather tactless and short tempered and so to be ignored. Well done on your comeback though.

The thing with 3dc's is that although its hard when theyr'e so little - all my friends with older children say its fab as they're such a gang and play together/amuse themselves brilliantly.

So think in a few years - we'll be the ones laying on our sunloungers reading our books on holiday whilst our dc's look after themselves. Delusional - moi

vinauchocolat · 01/04/2010 17:57

Ooh I am pretty boring, olive skinned but deathly pale at present, greeny-hazel eyes, v dark hair.. have been told I look like a mash up of nigella lawson (yes can you imagine) and angelina jolie (not correct at all) and I look older than I am apparently (damn!!) so that's me. Have an Italian grandfather and Welsh family, hmm Wales isn't exotic is it.. hmm, lived in S America, does that make me exotic? No OK

I love the new thread title. DP advised me the other day that (oh he of all stylish knowledge-pah) peep-toe shoes are 'ugly granny shoes' so I said 'whaaaat? I like them' and he remained firm that they are vile and the toe bit is what really old ladies have (crosses peep-toe CLs off imaginary shopping list) hmpf. I disagree though I still like them. He wears primarni fleeces after all, in dubious shades

Well I have been awfully naughty. The sportmax dress that I ordered and sent back has shamefully been purchased from selfridges, yes, at full price with no discount code (flame me now) and I was kind of expecting it to be wrong when it arrived but it fits perfectly and I think it will have to stay (despite my bank balance pleading otherwise!) It's the kind of dress that, cost per wear, will be OK, as I can use it for various things (?) and it will still, I hope, be OK in 5 years time. Or even 10 years time lest I get wobblier. See, I'm a bit sensible..

malene birger skirt that I linked to before is going back.. because although I really like the print, it makes me look terribly voluminous of thigh and I can't wear it with flats or I'd look 10 miles wide and I'm trying to be wise! hmm, I like it though..

death squad dress (arrived couple days ago) great fun but v big sizing, still keeping it.. and bloch shoes are SO comfy (big sizing I think)

And again have spent all funds and it's only the 1st of the month I live in fear of DP looking at my statements

In my defence I haven't bought anything ALL DAY (gasp) or even ALL OF YESTERDAY (eek) but have serious at that yummy muted donna karan bag linked to on other thread, tis lovely

vinauchocolat · 01/04/2010 18:00

LTEC marvellous comeback and no I don't think you overreacted, that was a nasty thing to say in front of your DCs. I'm sure she didn't mean to be nasty and we all have frazzled days and some have skewed senses of humour (moi) but that wasn't appropriate of her at all as it was a personal remark, not self deprecating but critiquing you.

dexter73 · 01/04/2010 18:23

LTEC - sell the dress as you will never wear it if it looks wrong.
I wonder if the woman was horrible as she is a bit jealous. You look good, have 3 fab kids and don't shriek at them (too often!) whereas she wears fleeces and is mean to her poor dc.

FrancesFarmer · 01/04/2010 19:03

Jumping onto the new thread, love the title, maybe there?s a song in it!

Looks-wise, I am Irish, deathly pale, golden hair, blue-grey eyes. A touch of rosacea on my cheeks which is annoying although I delude myself into thinking it gives my face a natural blush. Am thin although I really need to get to work on the baby belly (hoping Davina?s post-pregnancy dvd will work some magic).

Style-wise, it?s complicated. I waver between different styles depending on my mood; still trying to figure it out really. Love colourful/patterned silky dresses and tops a la Whistles, like Acne jeans (their other clothes rather than the actual jeans) and APC (some of it too ?boxy? for me though), cardigans ? have loads (too many?), the ?French? look but more towards the Bohemian end of that look ? think Lou Doillon rather tan perfectly-groomed, am a bit obsessed with floral and square/rectangular patterns, don?t like to bare too much flesh and usually, am more comfortable showing leg than cleavage, layer a lot, struggle to cover-up stylishly in the rain (this is a problem living in Ireland), wear mostly flats ? boots, Bloch ballerinas (would agree with those who praised them in the last thread) and gladiators in summer, also like the style of Chloe Sevigny, Michelle Williams (her casual style is a good blend of stylish and practical for doing stuff with DCs imo) and Alexa Chung (although I don?t think Chung is that original - loads of young women dress like her).

OK, some links.
Attending a wedding in June. Going for a sort of luxe hippy/earth mama vibe. This is a bit of a new departure for me style-wise but one that suits my present circumstances, I think.

Dress:
www.monsoon.co.uk/Nicole-Maxi-Dress/invt/65224354&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,dresses,wommaxidress

Annoyingly, it?s polyester, not silk but on the plus side, it is breastfeeding-friendly, jellybelly-friendly and I?ve been dreaming of a gold and red dress for ages (the fabric has a lovely gold shimmery effect that doesn?t show in the pics).

Will wear it with a gold lurex-type shrug and these sandals: www.faith.co.uk/gold-metallic-desre-wedge-sandal-prod571884/ (need to wear flats as will have to carry baby around at wedding).

Not sure what to do with hair ? maybe wear down with a few golden ornaments or would that be too hippy-ish?

(Sorry for terse style but have baby on lap as I type)

traceybath · 01/04/2010 19:08

Frances - gorgeous dress and sandals.

I'd probably keep hair simple and skip the hair ornaments.

notyummy · 01/04/2010 19:09

Liking the maxi frances - I couldn't do it as am auburn and find my red hair does not suit orange/yellow/red shades. Shame about the material though - although I can see that the bf element is key. There have been zillions of links to maxis in the other W &A threads - nothing there that ticked the boxes and was silk? Or alternatively polyester but slightly cheaper?

traceybath · 01/04/2010 19:10

I do think its shocking to charge £125 for a polyester dress.

notyummy · 01/04/2010 19:15

frances

Cheaper - but is what you are looking for?

orange

notyummy · 01/04/2010 19:23

Also

silk and similar shade - would go with your lovely shoes...but not sure if bf friendly?

Will stop interfering now!

bunjies · 01/04/2010 19:26

Hi Frances. I like the sandals and dress. I would also go with hair au naturel.

Cake - what a witch. She is obviously jealous of you.

FrancesFarmer · 01/04/2010 19:27

notyummy, I like it but would not be as easy to breastfeed in, I think.

traceybath, I agree with you about the price but tbh, I was so glad to get a breastfeeding-friendly dress that fits well that I jumped at it. (I like bfing but it is limiting style-wise). I'm thinking I could sell it on ebay afterwards and make back some of the cost.

Fel1x · 01/04/2010 19:48

Frances, that is a lovely dress. It is expensive, but if you love it and its exactly right for the occasion then it is worth it
LTEC - great answer to the other Mum. She sounds quite unhappy tbh and is probably a bit jealous of you enjoying your life with three young ones when she is struggling with one. Shame for her, but no call to be nasty to you. Good on you for answering back!
Enjoy your week away!

What are the rest of us all up to over this long weekend?
DH is away until tomorrow evening so we are just pottering about tomorrow.
Saturday I am in London for the day, lunching and shopping with old friends. Lovely
Sunday and Monday we have family over.

Am currently deciding what to wear on Saturday! Am meeting friends from my 'previous life' when I used to work in fashion, so need to put a little bit of thought in so they dont think I've lost my fashion sense among all the nappies and playdough!

ApuskiDusky · 01/04/2010 20:13

Found you! And laughed at the title!

Finally it's the end of the week, and I have 4 days at home! I have managed to scan through the most recent posts and catch up a bit, but have very little to contribute - been too busy/knackered/ill to shop or even covetously browse.

I am with you all on getting v frustrated at the weather, and not being able to start to wear warm weather clothes yet; and was gutted to not read my cocosa email about the ash sale until all the good stuff had gone.

BTW, vin, I love that Sportmax dress, and agree that it'll be great for lots of different occasions.

LTEC, re commenting woman, there's no way round it, that was an unpleasant remark, hopefully just an unfortunate turn of phrase that she is now embarassed about.

Fel1x, hello, we've not crossed paths yet. This weekend I will need to be in my most glamorous of clothes as I shall be.... potty training. So I am stocked up on all necessities - pants, multiple easy-to-pull-up trousers, cleaning products and chocolate buttons. Bring it on!

OllieWollieWoo · 01/04/2010 20:16

Oh - just seen the easter bunny smileys, so wanted to say ! Cute!

Moneyspider · 01/04/2010 20:36

Hello all!

notyummy I LOVE that teatro silk maxi dress. And they do it in petite! Am always a little as to why they line silk dresses in polyester [sweaty emoticon]...

Vin lovely, lovely dress.

LTEC I think you were remarkably restrained. I just know I'd have said something far worse, resulting in an inviegling froideur in nursery loos...

Nowt arrived today, but having wine and looking forward to the long weekend

CHOOGIRL · 01/04/2010 20:39

Just tried on the MJ dress It is almost perfect so am keeping.

LTEC I think you should keep the dress as it is beautiful. BTW You should point that woman in the direction of your blog see if she recognises herself.

Vin The Sportsmax is definitely a keeper

How are we going to manage when our leader is away - perhaps tracybath or Esher will have to deputise.

LetThemEatCake · 01/04/2010 20:43

god, what will I do without this thread next week?

Our annual caravanning odyssey involves lots of mornings where the blokes get up early to urf, leaving the women on breakfast/ morning duty ... so I've texted everyone to say "pack an impractical frock, the girls are going out while there are so many babysitters on hand!" Everyone is up for it ... now, which frock??

tracey what did you decide on the white JC dress?

HH I absolutely love that whole outfit. So beautiful. Hair a bit rumpled, I think, and maybe a stack of thin gold bangles.

vin dress wise, regardless of price

Can't get sight of myself in VWA top out of my head .. Stupid money for a top though ... yes?

Fel1x what fun! what are you planning to wear?

thanks for your support about the mean lay by the way, Most other people tell me that I am a good advertisement for having a family (sorry to sound conceited) and I guess it's important to me to come across that way .. so I was a bit offended as generally I think I'm doing okay, considering!!

tracey so funny you should say that - I have this vision of being 40, drinking wine on the deck, dcs playing in the garden, aged 6,5 & 3. I'll still be young, and they'll still be young enough to be fun and cute, but just a bit more independent. BTW, when are you thinking of toilet training ds2? My ds2 is kind of making advances of his own accord and I am trying to mentally prepare myself to go for it properly...

Whispers - anyone else watching Masterchef? I'm not prone to oogling other men but that Spanish Tapas chef was yummy! Back to style matters now!
