P.S Had lovely lunch on Saturday with friends and their three children! All 10 of us...delicious food and good company...and kids good fun too, so feeling quite all's well with the world! 6 little blonde heads !

Sunday, took kids out househunting!!! ...So maddening that what's on paper invariably is so not right in RL !

I have news on this but not ready to divulge quite yet!!!

Anyway, after car picnic (due to bloody cold!- in my car so I was anxious about crumbs everywhere!!!!)we took them to museum and park....lovely lovely time had by all...sorry if this sounds smug just was a genuinely fabbo weekend !!!! Hope you all did too!

Romanarama · 08/03/2010 12:45

OWW sorry, have only just noticed the diva dress link when reading through - I really like it (I do have plenty of things that cost less than £700!)

So knackered from this weekend - had people for dinner on Saturday and ds3's 4th bday party on Sunday afternoon, so have basically spent the entire weekend inside cooking and entertaining. And it was sunny, though I'm reliably told also freezing.

plum I've often had cropped hair and it def needs wax to look nice. I got tired of it everytime as you really have to concentrate a bit harder on make up etc to look feminine, but don't worry - it grows, and you can enjoy it while it lasts.

hellsbelles · 08/03/2010 12:47

Dolce - how exciting...perhaps we can start a W&A thread for styling houses. I need help desperately in that area!

Thanks all for the feedback on the shoes/dress. I knew the shoes would get mixed reviews

Tracey - I am determined to be slightly more careful with my spending...so we can support each other in our frugality

GW - I like the dress -

blossoming · 08/03/2010 13:04

Having my wise head on, I've realised I don't need a dvf mini dress, or indeed have anywhere to wear one.

What I do have coming up is my baby's christening, and also my dh's 40th.

I think this might be a strong contender

hellsbelles · 08/03/2010 13:14

urghhh - I think I must have blocker on so I can't click through to your links blossoming! What is the name of it? I can get onto the DVF site so I can wittle it down from there

hellsbelles · 08/03/2010 13:33

Tracey - when you've sold some stuff on eBay they have the Halston Heritage white dress at NAP here though it's selling out fast.

I love it but I can see it'll be too short for me

PlumSykes · 08/03/2010 13:38

Dolce, I got my black Ash High-tops here. Seemed to be the best price, after I missed out on the Cocosa sale.

traceybath · 08/03/2010 13:38

Hells - I'd got it reserved for me but deleted it from my basket as decided that I didn't really have anywhere to wear it, its polyester! and also its just too associated with sjp.

Blossoming - I can't see your link either.

Hells - did you get your shoes from the chie mihara site?

hellsbelles · 08/03/2010 13:42

oh - I just did think it would look amazing on my mental image of you . And I'm sure one of our ladies posted to say that polyester is now the fabric de jour! But as you say no good if it makes you look like an SJP wannabe!

I got the shoes from a shop in Islington called 'Spice' so I got to try them on.

blossoming · 08/03/2010 14:23

How annoying about my dvf links.
If you go to dvf.com, then dresses then view all, it' a knee length cap sleeve blue ( bluebird they call it ) dress with ruching at waist and pleating at neck.

Btw, forgot to say that I saw that ted baker butterfly dress in rl on sat and didn't rate it.

As previously mentioned I have some unworn jimmy choos in my wardrobe. They're chocolate brown pull on suede boots with 75 mm heel. They cost me £550. I hold my head in shame.
Yesterday I decided I'd list them and had a quick look onthe jc site to see what they cost now. They're only on sale! For half price!! Really annoyed. Brown isn't one of my colours so there's no point keeping them.
Any idea what I should ask for them? They're a 41 in case anyone's interested.

blossoming · 08/03/2010 14:32

Oops, just checked and they're 'coffee' and 41.5.

DolceeBanana · 08/03/2010 14:51

Hells - thanks - will keep you posted!

Plum - they're fab ... thanks for the link...really like them...and weirdly don't seem as 'flat' as converse either IFYSIM...? Good price too...

And I am sure your hair is looking good now you've done it yourself! I have only met a handful of hairdressers who can blow dry hair without; a) you leaving the shop looking like a WAG; or b) looking like Mollie Sugden..!

Blossoming - another one who can't see the link...!

bunnymother · 08/03/2010 15:36

Am hiding out in cafe while DD sleeps... And would have been rude not to order and gobble eat some carrot cake. Yum. Will try those recipes for ladies' afternoon tea am hosting soon. We love our sweets, but our skinny jeans more!

GW - nice Mint dress but not mad about it.

Oh dear, she wakes...

Romanarama · 08/03/2010 16:16

I can't open the DVF links either.

Shall I get these Choos for my interview/work wardrobe?

LetThemEatCake · 08/03/2010 16:21

afternoon all

hells so sorry about dd. Dress & shoes both yay from me, but not together

looking fwd to a proper look at that site. Thanks for the star shoes Marsha - they are lovely.

blossoming - I can generally do a 41.5 in Choos .. can you link to the ones on the site?

GW - that dress is a little too busy for me .. the two-tone background and floral design .. too much iykwim?

out with a friend this morning who took one look at my nails and said she didn't like the colour .. and then went on to add that maybe it was just what I was wearing it with - which for the record, is indigo straight legs, silver ash high tops, Urban Outfitters horse print tee and long-line silk/ cashmere Zara charcoal cardi.

with all this talk of wheat free going on, is this weird/ rude: I've not eaten wheat for over 2 years now. It's a much-discussed, well-known fact in dh's family. MiL came on Sat (as you know) bearing a Thornton's chocolate cake saying, "I brought this to celebrate your anniversary. I mean, you won't be able to eat it but the rest of us can enjoy it."

Is this like taking a beef casserole to the home of a vegetarian? sorry to go on about my i-Ls. And, hey - who needs the calories? But still ...

awaiting the DHL man and the arrival of my seahorse. Also having to be, alternately, Aunty Em, Glinda & wicked witch of west to Dorothy (dd) and Lion (ds1). DS2 is a flying monkey. Better go give it my full attention.

blossoming · 08/03/2010 16:24

Yes. Definitely.

blossoming · 08/03/2010 16:26

To roma's choos!

Romanarama · 08/03/2010 16:36

Courier just came and I was so excited about my Westwood, and it was......

15kg of dog food.

Ltec your mil prob just thinks you're being annoying about the wheat thing. I stopped eating wheat for 2 months because I had bad tummy ache and it really did go away totally (it was the kind that had been slightly debilitating for several years). But I found it a pita and started again. I'd like to stop - do you find it easy?

LetThemEatCake · 08/03/2010 16:39

yes Roman I do find it easy. There are so many wheat free versions of everything around. I don't get sick if I eat wheat, but I don't feel great - tummy bloats, digestion packs up, I get very lethargic and tired. Which with 3 young dcs is not ideal!!

I also have psoriasis and it just disappears in the absence of wheat

DolceeBanana · 08/03/2010 16:51

LTEC Your MIL sounds like she's trying to be nice (bringing a cake is essentially a 'nice' act), but misses the mark, because she's just thoughtless (you can't eat it!). Women of that era (our Mothers etc.), I think sometimes tend to be a bit envious of our lives on the one hand: ('they' managed a large family, and looked after a house with no help, no tumble dryer (!)...etc etc etc.... (honestly on stroppy occasions my Mother has actually said this!...and I point out - yeah well, you were 21 and I'm 40!!!); and on the other think we make things more complicated - 'what do you mean you don't eat wheat/are macrobiotic/are vegan?' In my day....
It was like this when I was pregnant - 'oh, we ate whatever we wanted dear...' (oh yes, and smoked!!!'well everybody did dear')
I just humour my MIL, and Mother for that matter....I believe they 'mean' well, and so don't get so irked by their silly well meant comments...
Roma - like the Choos, but not wowed...I know they are potential work shoes and so would begrudge the cost for work, but, if they make you feel fabulous then I would say go for them....

DolceeBanana · 08/03/2010 16:59

Interesting what you say about psoriasis LTEC. My DH suffers badly at times, and his sister is wheat free, as she feels better, less bloated without...am thinking he should try wheat free for a bit ...mind you would be tres difficile to convince...

And at least you get to be exciting characters ... I have to be Mummy Princess and play 'hair pretty' whereby my hair gets tied into all sorts of vicious knots, with various bits of tat in it, (which I forget about until the doorbell rings, and a neighbour looks on with a rather amused expression!)...

DolceeBanana · 08/03/2010 17:04

Anyhoo- the spritely, refreshed, alls well with the world feeling has disappeared as I've well and truly got the 5 o' clock slump! Urggh...good job its leftovers tonight (ooh my Mother would be proud of me thrifty ways!)...

Anyone got a dead cert. for a pick you up - a non calorific sort preferably.....zzzzzzzzz

PlumSykes · 08/03/2010 17:14

Roma, yes, fabulous

LTEC, that is weird, and a bit off, but probably not intended to be mean. Though it does mean next time you visit them you can rock up with a boot full of booze.

blossoming · 08/03/2010 17:50

LTEC - here is the link
lol at rock up with a boot full of booze!

I have always loved cooking and baking, and always make an effort for ILs when they visit. There are 23 counting us who are considered close family, and I once catered for them all after we moved to this house, ranging in ages from 2 to 80, plus my disabled dc2.
Anyway when I worked I remember making an effort to make a cake when MIL came to stay when we were still in Cardiff, and she only came with a bought cake when she knew full well I would have baked.
I have heard all the 'she means well' over the years. At least now she doesn't come to stay. She came to help out when I was in London on Saturday. Baby still screams. Shame.

So annoyed no-one can see the dvf dress. It's not on matches or NAP.

blossoming · 08/03/2010 17:53

Um, written down, that sounds ridiculous.
Certifiable even.
