Does anyone ever look good in Jeggings?

They are horrible things, have just been in town and every other female under the age 25 seemed to wearing them, and they all looked awful.

I love my jeggings with a nice tunic over the top! would never show my bum though! Not like some of these girls that wear them with a skinny tshirt.. im just envious!

Crownjules1 · 18/02/2010 18:17

Next, if you like that sort of thing

purpleduck · 18/02/2010 18:19

We saw a teenager a few weeks ago - with the thin cheap pretend denim-y jeggings.

They were WAY too tight, and had gone see through. She was not toned at all. We could not look away at the fashion car crash. It still replays in my brain if I don't guard against it.

EdgarAllenSnow · 18/02/2010 18:29

so the consensus is - if you wear them in the same way as you would wear tights - with a dress that covers your bum, and boots to cover at least the otherwise bare bit of ankle -then they're ok?

why not just wear tights?

i also agree that whilst some women look ok in them, that same woman could look fantastic in something else.

CurlyCasper · 18/02/2010 18:42

as I do the tights, tunic and boots things for work at the mo (18 weeks gone) I use the jegging jeans to dress down. But I do now prefer my lovely new maternity jeans
It's all about comfort at the end of the day.

dexter73 · 18/02/2010 18:42

Leggings are better than tights as they don't snag and are warmer. I get through loads of tights so it works out cheaper wearing leggings.

queenoftheslatterns · 18/02/2010 18:48

my favourite pair are from asda, only £10 and proper stretchy denim.

EdgarAllenSnow · 18/02/2010 19:20

you want better tights...M&S opaques or Accessorize 60 deniers...

dexter73 · 18/02/2010 19:31

I need to get rid of my dog! She loves scrabbling up my legs with her little sharp claws. I always get Marks tights but even they succumb to dog claws.

dexter73 · 18/02/2010 19:34

I recently tried Uniqlo tights and they are really good and come in lots of colours.

Bodrelowski · 18/02/2010 19:51

I have a friend who put her 3 month old in them and it was tragic. I do like babies to be dressed like babies!

Bodrelowski · 18/02/2010 19:52

Jeggings that is..not uniqlo tights

nappyaddict · 18/02/2010 20:33

Republic do good ones.

nappyaddict · 18/02/2010 20:38

New Look have loads of different sorts here

Psycho How much were the H&M ones?

whomovedmychocolate · 18/02/2010 21:53

I'm the only one who looks at people in Jeggings and thinks 'mmmm sausages' aren't I?

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 18/02/2010 22:06

I keep pausing at jeggings in shops then not buying them - but I am tempted by the comfort factor and as I wear jeans with loooong tops or tunics I really don't see the difference between a good quality denim legging and skinny jeans, except the 'jegging' will be more comfy probably and without an unsightly buldge around the waist (where the belt is), which I find annoying.

I do wear leggings on occasion as well (only with tunics/ dresses and covered to mid thigh at least), however I am wondering from some of the comments here exactly what is acceptable to wear if you are over size 6/ age 25 (wich I am very much over at 16 and a decrepit 35)!

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 18/02/2010 22:07

Also would probably only wear them with boots...

whomovedmychocolate · 18/02/2010 22:15

I do think you have to be careful if you are larger, that you don't look like an overstuffed sausage/bin bag.

Actually very thin women also look quite odd in them. It accentuates their skeletal nature. Victoria Beckham, for example, looked like she'd just been released from a very harsh kidnap regime, living on Tic Tacs, in them.

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 18/02/2010 22:27

I hate tights though with their sagginess at the crutch and tendency to run - while a god legging stays up, holds it shape and tucks nicely into a boot.

I am not going to buy jeggings but this thread had made me strangely depressed about my sartorial decisions this winter - have I turned into mutton... (don't answer that - just watch out for one of those 'help I am having a crisis of confidence over my wardrobe' type threads or maybe I need Gok)???

BodyMashIndex · 18/02/2010 23:41

I actually bought some maternity jeggins!
I blame the hormones. I wouldn't wear them normaly, so god knows what I was thinking buying some, from M&S of all places, in my third trimester.

My DH, in a rare display of masculinity, made me take them back.
It is for outbreaks of sense and reason like this that I married him.

MoChan · 19/02/2010 08:19

I think anyone who thinks they look great in them must be deluded. Even people with really great figures look wrong, IMO.

Er, no offence to people wearing them right now...

octothechildherder · 19/02/2010 09:25

LOL - I think mine look like my skinny jeans esp with a long tunic and boots. I think you do need to buy decent ones to get it right. There are some horrible ones out there - esp the cotton ones which are meant to look like denim and the pale ones are a bit scary.

mummy2002 · 19/02/2010 10:16

i saw a a lady the other day with jeggings and a short jumper she looked like she was eating her bottoms lol she really should either pull them down a lil or wear a longer jumper

GreenMonkies · 19/02/2010 10:36

Ok, for those who are saying "I wear mine with long tos/big cardy etc and look great in them"

No.

You don't.

Honestly.

I am saying what your best friend should be saying.

Any tight legged clothing, be they leggings, jeggings or skinny jeans, with a long top, especially a non-fitted one (so the kind you wear when you are trying to "hide" your wobbly middle) don't make you look slim. It doesn't hide your wobbly middle, or your flabby belly, or trick anyone.

If you have slim legs you look like a balloon on a stick, if you have chunky legs you just look fat.

Sorry, it's the truth. Get someone to take a full length photograph of you, I promise you you will be horrified and throw away your skinny jeans/leggings/jeggings and slap your best friend for not telling you that you looked so fucking awful in them.

They only look cute on children, slim, athletic children. Jeggings and chunky don't mix at any age.

GreenMonkies · 19/02/2010 10:42

For Fucks Sake!! They even make this model/mannequin look tubby!

Just.

DON'T
