Got married in shorts, sandals and a very tropical top overlooking the sea in Jamaica (where we lived at the time). DH in shorts and another tropical top. I was four months pregnant. And I don't believe in wasting money that could be spent on lovely holidays on expensive wedding dresses that you will only wear for one day. Lovely as they all sound.

Ivory empire line shift, embroidered with seed pearls by an Australian designer called Nelson Leong. Spotted in a shop that did posh evening wear so it got me interested in trying out dresses in colours other than traditional white (although that's what I went for in the end
Strangest (but memorable) moment was when a stranger walked in off the street (as I was trying the dress on in the shop) to say how beautiful I looked and hoped it was for my wedding.

Wanderingsheep · 05/01/2010 16:42

God, you lot are all so stunning!!!

Bythepowerofgreyskull - mahoosive my arse! You look fab!

Some really gorgeous dresses here. I'm getting married in August and I can't wait to wear my dress!

trellism · 05/01/2010 16:54

A short Marc Jacobs rip-off by Watters and Watters in cream with black sash and black embroidery. I am the height of a garden gnome so a meringue would have looked stupid.

I would post pics but dh and I hid from the cameras as we are both appallingly awkward.

heather1980 · 05/01/2010 17:04

this was mine
here

and here
i loved it, it has a train that come out from under the dress and is all embroidered with beads

idealcamel · 05/01/2010 17:27

Skater! Long time, no speak! And now you're discussion of the day!

I had a winter wedding too. And wore this. Even though I had sworn to avoid strapless meringues.

I've just sent mine to a local charity's shop; hope they realise it's worth that much second-hand!

MamaLazarou · 05/01/2010 17:45

I wore an ivory crocheted minidress (from the sale rail at Whistles - only £50). As it was a late November wedding, I froze my arse off, but it was well worth it for the glamour.

CMOTdibbler · 05/01/2010 17:53

Mine was very plain - full length, straight ivory silk crepe with long sleeves, boat neck at front, very deep neckline at back, train attached to waist. My mum made my beautiful silk cathedral length veil, complete with 10m of handmade silk lace round the edge

EdgarAleNPie · 05/01/2010 17:55

mine was burgundy silk with lace up-back bodice off-the shoulder sleeves and gold indian style lace overlay on the bodice..full length skirt with netting - princess style.

it was my sisters but fitted ok, didn't want to buy my own as was 15 weeks gone with DS. - wore a less formal silk empire line dress in teal silk print by Sarah Arnett for the evening.

sayanything · 05/01/2010 18:02

The one on the right. I loved my dresss - I saw it online, tracked it down and bought it all in the space of three days. It was the only dress I tried on.

teafortwo · 05/01/2010 18:02

A long blue cotton halterneck sundress from Next and flip-flops.

MarshaBrady · 05/01/2010 18:05

That is a beautiful dress Sayanything.

sayanything · 05/01/2010 18:11

Thanks MarshaBrady!

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 18:11

sayanything, I agree with Marsha - tis beautiful and very you must have had the figure to carry it off - mine was more of a disguise than a wedding dress

pranma · 05/01/2010 18:33

White wild silk with slash neck and train from shoulders for wd1]
White crepe mini dress with long sleeves for wd2]
Cream and burgundy paisley silk two piece for wd3]

maamalady · 05/01/2010 18:39

Mine was the second dress I tried on - I loved it! It was Sophia Tolli "Alexa", I just loved the embroidery all up the sides that turned into the straps

With my bridesmaids

pigletmania · 05/01/2010 18:41

BTPOG you look lovely in your wedding dress so small and thin, me on the other hand looked like a big whale. I will put some pictures on my profile. Anyway my wedding dress was a dress that looked like it was in two parts, a bodice and an a line skirt with puddle train, all the rage when i got married about 5 years ago.

pigletmania · 05/01/2010 18:43

ooh Julz thats what you look like, that is such alovely dress on you will put some piccies on my profile

pigletmania · 05/01/2010 18:43

need to alter my profile as i have since m/c

wilbur · 05/01/2010 18:56

Such lovely dresses! Everyone looks gorgeous . I wore the dress in the middle but without the embroidery, just a plain organza coat over a straight satin dress.
