i think theres a pic on my profile

mine was halterneck, ivory satin. hand beaded and made to measure i got it from a chinese tailors on t'internet for £45 delivered. it had a long ribbon train swell. and i wore a veil with scattered pearls and diamante's with a diamante hairband in hind sight there was a bit too much boobie-flashing on the day as the dress was ALOT more low-cut than first anticipated i loved the dress though

AnnieLobeseder · 06/01/2010 19:12

Mine was cream chiffon over champagne satin, with slits in the skirt so you could see the satin when I move.

Can't really see the underneath when I'm standing still (which is why I had the chiffon shortened so the satin pokes out at the bottom)

But when I'm dancing, you get the proper effect.

YoMoJo · 06/01/2010 20:47

mine was fishtail shape & heavy brocade lace with crystals sewn all over.

I bought it with my Mum at a very snooty bridal shop after a "Pretty Women" moment, still at how much it cost - new I HAD to have it but wished we had tracked it down & bought elsewhere!

YoMoJo · 06/01/2010 20:56

forgot to add - for those of you that can still fit into your gowns there are plenty of wedding dress balls to air them out in!

mine sadly is sitting in the bottom of my wardrobe unlikely to ever fit again!

YoMoJo · 06/01/2010 20:58

angfirsttimer - think we must of had the same dress!

SkaterGrrrrl · 06/01/2010 21:21

Gorgeous dresses on this thread.

Mine was way way beyond budget. It was a Caroline Castigliano sample with crystals the link is here.

It was worth every penny and I loved it - though should sell it as its been in cupboard ever since.

blithedance · 06/01/2010 22:16

petunia I remember looking at that Butterick pattern when I made mine!

TheBossofMe · 07/01/2010 16:20

Amanda Wakely Couture - utterly gorgeous, long sleeved (was winter '99) bias cut heavy-weight satin-backed crepe, deep drape neck with flat bodice under, puddle train.

Still under bed.

Have been known to put it on when drunk.

petunia · 07/01/2010 16:54

blithedance I remember buying a whole book of wedding patterns and choosing several 'possibles' before narrowing it down to that one. Once I got going on it, it was fairly easy to make. It's now sitting under our bed and DD1's already got her eye on it. (She's only 10 but has plans already!)

NappyShedSal · 07/01/2010 19:02

Mine is now a Christening robe. My mum made a gorgeous christening robe from the material from the skirt and train. The bottom had beads sewn all around which my mum unpicked and resewed onto the christening robe. It's absolutely gorgeous (far nicer than it was as a wedding dress!!).
It's been worn by my 2 DDs but unfortunately we have such a small family - no cousins at aall - that it's unlikley to becaome a family heirloom, although hopefully my 2 DDs wwill want use it on their children - insert wwistful looking smiley -.

PanicMode · 07/01/2010 19:07

Great thread - there are lots of beautiful brides on here (ignoring the ironic postings in the middle obviously!!)

I also had a Sassi Holford dress, but I can't remember what the design was called - it's almost ten years ago. I tried on a Vera Wang which was to die for, but my father put his foot down when he heard the cost of that one!! I was still spoilt rotten with my dress though - and I sold it almost straight afterwards to someone who desperately wanted it but couldn't afford it full price as I couldn't bear to have something so beautiful rotting in the attic. I have bought myself some emerald and diamond earrings and a matching necklace with the money, so I get to wear my 'wedding dress' on special occasions.

I can't find a picture to link to, but it was a fairly 50s style - strapless duchesse satin but with a gorgeous bolero jacket, so it didn't look strapless really - and it was in what Sassi H calls cappuccino - so a sort of pale gold/creamy colour. I absolutely loved it and felt amazing in it. Funnily enough, after I chose it, I found a photo of my grandmother in her wedding dress and it was very similar!

TheBossofMe · 07/01/2010 19:30

NappyShedSal - I wanted to use mine for a christening gown for DD, but when push came to shove, I couldn't bear to cut it up. Plus gave me a good excuse for shopping for a new dress for DD - family gown was destroyed in fire

cheapskatemum · 07/01/2010 20:47

Not sure if anyone's still reading this, but mine was an embossed crimson suit, very fitted, by some Italian designer and it had the most amazing huge collar. Loved it.

magbags · 07/01/2010 20:57

Got mine made as couldn't find what I wanted in the shops. It was a duchesse satin a-line with a very small train and lace overlay sort of slit-neck on top. Loving all the photos btw. x

oldandknackered · 07/01/2010 21:29

I bet mine was the cheapest... I paid $12.50 for it at the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scotsborough, Alabama. It was lovely

traumaqueen · 08/01/2010 09:32

Mum and I made mine - it still has a pinprick of blood on it which I had to cover with SOmething Old (her beautiful pearl brooch). Tight bodice, full skirt, sash bow at back which was pinned on because we forgot to sew it on, and a sort of pouffy bit round the scoop neckline with real pink rosebuds sewn on all around it.

It was very sweet and after a bit of post-separation-anorexia I can still get in to it although various bits of me don't seem to be in the same place as before.

Oh, and it was a boned bodice so didn't wear a bra and I forgot to put nipple shields on so all the photos have my nipples sticking out DH liked it anyway.

bean612 · 08/01/2010 14:14

A bridesmaid's dress, traditional ivory colour but not a meringue, made of chiffony material, sort of Grecian on the top and stopped below the knee to show off my scarlet shoes (hurrah!). Dress cost £150 which seemed (and still seems) rather a bargain. Shoes, however, cost 3 times as much - but I regret nothing, I still get them out of their box on a regular basis just to marvel at their (handmade) beauty!

bean612 · 08/01/2010 14:23

Ooh, here it is

And the shoes , but in red. Love 'em.

treedelivery · 08/01/2010 14:50

Mine is here

What you can see of it, but I love that shot.

The thing around my shoulders is a spanish lace veil that I found on holiday in Menorca. So beautiful and so heavy! Th epic sort of shows it, without revealing me to the world

I agonised over that gown. It took 18 months of fittings, 6 weeks to choose the fabric [2ply Thai silk in the end] and actual arguments about colour. I wanted white white, the designer found this nearly-white-but-not-white-so-she-could-sleep-at-night colour in the end.
It had a big train too, which I couldn't find in the shops.

I wanted a dress that looked like whipped cream. Which is why I like that shot from above.

May have tipped slightly over buget. As in the budget tripled. Before shoes and veil.

Bettymum · 08/01/2010 16:47

Ooh bean612 I had these with a tiny gold ankle strap. I saved so much having my mum make the dress I blew the budget on the shoes .
My tiara was made from a plain metal hairband, a selection of pearl and crystal necklaces from Claire's accessories, and a glue gun. Cost about a fiver. I had to have a very chunky tiara as I have big curly hair and all the delicate ones in the shops just disappeared into the curls. Plus they cost £££.

Sunshinemummy · 08/01/2010 16:49

Alicet a friend of mine wore the same dress as you. Looked lovely.

Mine is on my profile as I only got married last August. It's a purple evening dress from Paul & Joe which I wore with a jewelled Paul & Joe belt. I absolutely love it. Knew straight away it was the one. Funnily enough I was looking for something knee length and less dressy as I got married at City Hall in New York but I was so pleased with this.

bean612 · 08/01/2010 19:01

Oh bettymum, another Emmy fan, yippee! One Day When I Am Rich all my shoes will come from Emmy as a matter of course.

WheresMyWaistGone · 09/01/2010 08:33

I got married in February, and I'm ALWAYS cold, so I had a skirt with fishtail, bodice and jacket which had a high, chinesey collar. It was silver/grey slik, embroidered with butterflies and flowers in greens and pinks (sounds gruesome but was am-az-ing!) and I had bright pink shoes to match and the roses in my flowers and hair were the same pink.

Although I now can fit into size 14 jeans again (hurrah!) I can't manage the skirt!

Apparently the first thing my (ex)dh noticed was my shoes!
