I'm a SAHM with a 15mo DS and I need ideas!!

OP posts:
tulpe · 01/09/2009 22:48

Thanks LTEC. Love that Rick Owens top too

Ooops about your skinnies. Have you said anything? I would find it so hard if I had lent something to someone and it was trashed. Happened to me once - lent my sister a (never worn) beautiful cream silk pencil skirt (was very Italian summer chic) to wear to a wedding. It came back creased to buggery with several grease marks on it. I told her she may as well keep it - said I had gained a few pounds and would never get in it - I sobbed

MarshaBrady · 01/09/2009 22:49

New stuff so far is

Vanessa Bruno gorge mustard dress
Ralph Lauren grey cape / poncho thing. Which dh has finally admitted he really likes and am really enjoying wearing it alot.

Going to get
more wolford tights
nice boots, maybe Chloe
skinny jeans - but need to be maternity, which is a annoying first bit of maternity had to buy
flat shoes - ballet shoes

still have 2 good coats from last year, See by Chloe and Vanessa B my faves.

Going for nice fabrics and colours this year.

fin42 · 01/09/2009 22:54

Love this thread, and so glad that the sweater dress with skinny jeans/leggings and boots are still looking good for A/W.
Also love shoeboots with thick tights (are the Autograph cashmere tights 'woolly' or 'opaque' style?).

janeite · 01/09/2009 23:00

The ones I saw were woolly -but nice and fine.

LetThemEatCake · 01/09/2009 23:01

a lot of the stuff on this page is good for ideas, if not actual puchases.

I love those loose beanies, and with 3dcs aged 3 and under to contend with this winter, let's face it. am not going to have a lot of time for hair maintenance ...

That's awful about your skirt tulpe ... how thoughtless! I haven't said anything to my friend .. she has a slightly tyrannical husband who won't 'let' her buy clothes so I am trying to be gracious, as my dh is a sweetheart, and very generous with it. Well, not generous per se, but non-eyebrow raising at the constant DHL deliveries!!!

tulpe · 01/09/2009 23:17

I know, LTEC, but my sis was in similar situation to your friend so I let it go.

My DH is very cool with expenditure. He would rather I spent a lot on a few items than a lot on loads of cheap stuff which needs to be replaced every 6 months, IYSWIM. I guess I do a 50/50 compromise on that! Tis my NY resolution for 2010 to totally work that attitude though so am watching designers with interest.

I found the leather skirt on Guardian website (not on M&S yet). Tis quite cool with a Balmain/Preen edge due to the quilting, non? Will definitely be investigating once it is up there.

Marsha - glad DH has finally succumbed to the beauty of the cape . Still haven't found a link for it but sounds gorgeous.

I found this black sequin skirt that I thought could work as a fun item for evening. I know exactly what I want - A-line mini, non-stretch (sequins sewn onto silk georgette type fabric, I guess???) but am worried will look slightly mutton. There are a few out there but they are all tight, stretchy numbers which are definitely mutton!

MarshaBrady · 01/09/2009 23:19

I know! Finally he sees the truth

MarshaBrady · 01/09/2009 23:22

btw Preen is very cool. I did some work with them, way back when I thought I might want to go into fashion.

Spent all day doing press studs.

They have done massively well.

Horton · 01/09/2009 23:24

Anyone have good recommendations for a mid-thigh knitted dress which isn't itchy? In practice this means acrylic, cashmere or alpaca as wool makes my skin crawl. Would like colour rather than grey/black, too. Also a bit fitted around the waist would be nice. I would quite like something that flares from the waist, I think. I don't do skinny jeans as my knees are beyond belief but have nice slim-fitting straight ones.

tulpe · 01/09/2009 23:33

How about this - there are other colours there rather than the grey

or

this?

LetThemEatCake · 01/09/2009 23:41

yes, I was going to suggest the Boden - I've just bought the dress, not the tunic. The White Company do something very similar here - same name even, go figure. Only 10% cashmere though.. how about this little beautyin damson??

Horton · 01/09/2009 23:45

Ooh, I like all of those, although 'a touch of cashmere' sets my itch-detectors off big time! Has anyone got the Boden one? Is it itchy?

I think I'd like something shorter than LTEC's suggestions, really, although those do pass the itch test being cashmere!

LetThemEatCake · 01/09/2009 23:53

Choogirl has the same Boden one that I've just ordered ... Choogirl?? calling Choogirl??

Mine should be here tomorrow so I'll check the itch factor for you then

LetThemEatCake · 01/09/2009 23:56

oh my god, hideous

tulpe · 02/09/2009 00:00

But that isn't too dissimilar to some feck-awful creation that la Moss was papped in last year in Paris (or some such glam location).

ITA....vile beyond belief.....and £300!!!!!!!

LetThemEatCake · 02/09/2009 00:01

last post of the night from me.. some of you might know that I was contemplating a check shirt the other day .. found an M&S giftcard tonight when I was doing my tax return and wondered whether [http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B002F7IFEE/ref=dp_rvi_5/278-4731655-3828330?ie=UTF8&mnSBr and=core&pos=failedsearch%5Frvi%5F2%5Ftext this is any good]]??

LetThemEatCake · 02/09/2009 00:02

oh bugger

this

Megglevache · 02/09/2009 00:25

Am loving this thread and will be drooling planning what to get ASAP, I am sort of hoping for an Indian summer so I can use all of my summer stuff that barely got an airing :-)

Have some long cardis, a Teal coloured Mac at the moment and a burnished gold sequin shrug and that's it. I need some new boots and might get an knee high orange leather pair. I said might.

CHOOGIRL · 02/09/2009 08:46

I've not worn the Boden dress out yet, but tried it on and it does not itch. I also have this from Whistles which may go back depending on what else I see on this thread.

CHOOGIRL · 02/09/2009 08:50

I tried this on in Selfridges yesteday - but not sure about it. I am dark skinned so don't usually wear grey but there seems to be so much of it about this season.

All the clothes listed seem to be for apple shaped ladies - long of leg and big of boob. Us pear shapes just look stumpy in skinnies and boyfriend cardis. So what are the pears wearing? I'll be popping DC3 mid winter, and BFing in the freezing cold, so my wardrobe choices are reeeeeally restricted. Ideas out there for us pears please?
Dresses are out - BFing
Skinnies are out - short fat legs
Boots, defo, but need skinnies to fit inside
Cardis, defo, but I need ones which wont swamp me?
What are the coat shapes/stypes out there?

PutDown · 02/09/2009 10:37

Choogirl,I love grey
seem to have loads of it in my wardrobe atm.
Whistles looks good this year,I have to say,and I have found some similar stuff in Autograph.I like Kew in the Autumn too,for basic stuff.

Clure · 02/09/2009 10:41

Clure · 02/09/2009 10:43
