I'm a SAHM with a 15mo DS and I need ideas!!

I'm an hourglass luxmum and wear all those things you have listed. The right dresses are fine for bf as me and LTEC have mentioned. I wear skinnies with chunky boots to balance fat arse. I also use thick belts just below the bust at the slimmest part to accentuate my waist.

MarshaBrady · 02/09/2009 10:44

Luxmum this one looks quite good to wear when bf.

I will be at the end of year and am tempted. Quite plain and not sure yet how I feel about black, could be a bit harsh or could be good.

HelenaBonhamCarter · 02/09/2009 10:56

Knee boots

opaque tights that don't get holes in easily (ha ha ha) in black, brown, various colours

just above knee skirt or two

LONG waisted long sleeved t shirts and also a skinny woollen long sleeved top in same style.

Nice stretchy long vests

comfy socks and work boots to wear with jeans

ordinary jeans for that kind of day

levis flares for smarter days (already got, and rare find because they fit!)

comfy knickers (yet to find) plus couple pairs sloggi control ones (not comfy enough for every day)

Long beige cardi

Slim fitting stretchy jumper (got huge thick cream one from Kew but it might be too chunky)

Good coats, one thick, one less so

That's about it.

HelenaBonhamCarter · 02/09/2009 10:57

OH and knee length jersey dress from Kew samples, vv nice and simple

am trying to find a few more in that style/shape.

Bleh · 02/09/2009 11:00

Well, I did my quarterly (man this sounds like I have no life) drag out of clothing, getting down jumpers etc. I also checked bank balance (not good) so I will be wearing:

  • Some white company dresses from summer with black polo necks underneath
  • various wrap jumpers
  • various round neck jumpers
  • various skirts
  • bretonesque pirate shirt, looking for more
  • this dress from coast
  • tons of black opaque tights
and lots and lots of chunky jewellery and scarves. I will, however, be going CRAZY in the January sales when I finally have some money.
HelenaBonhamCarter · 02/09/2009 11:45

Bleh I have to say you sound extremely smart and very savvy! Love the dress, too. I wish I was capable of accessorising like you. I am rubbish at jewellery etc etc.

Everyone has certainly given me lots of ideas!! I've really struggled with my new shape and style since DS was born last year and spent last autumn feeling a bit rubbish about that sort of thing, so this year I am going to look fab. Ish.

I have a pair of skinnies that I do really like, but they give me terrible muffin top - tulpe, those Boden ones sound like they might be better for me, are they higher waisted that norm?

I'm going to buy some longline vests to go with my existing long cardis to start with. I think the next stop will be some good flat boots. Anyone got any ideas?

BTW, I am quite chuffed that a thread I started has got this long!!

TFINaptime · 02/09/2009 12:24

I didn't mean skinnies, I meant straight leg jeans. I am too big of bum for skinnies, I think.

Bleh · 02/09/2009 12:37

Thanks Helena. I don't always look that smart, trust me (and normally the chunky jewellery is removed within an hour of getting dressed)

LetThemEatCake · 02/09/2009 12:39

ROFL at Luxmum's 'big boob' assessment.

Am definitely, definitely a pear - and flat chested even now, with baby about to arrive!! Skinnies are fine, just depends on what you wear them with.

Luxmum · 02/09/2009 12:54

Hmm, ok so, I've been browbeaten into trying skinnies, of course, 6 months or so AFTER I give birth, to allow my poor legs to lose a bit of the weight. The link doesnt work for me Mrs bady, blocked by a kill-joy work screening thingy. Maybe I should get a few low cut dresses then, wear with my lurvely boots from last year, and just chuck a boob out when the baby needs it. I'd better get soem pashminas or a ponch then, otherwise the old men in the cafes will be well impressed by me flashing the flesh.

Luxmum · 02/09/2009 13:09

Hmm, so where exactly can I FIND low v neck wrap dresses, which dont cost the earth? I dont ususally live in the UK/Ireland, so not sure what si out where, but am home for the weekend, so tips on where to go would be appreciated..

TFINaptime · 02/09/2009 13:15

Something for the BFers -

this top is fab - makes your boobs look good, easy to layer up with other clothes as they are just the right length (almost longline but not quite) and hide the mummy tummy when you lift up your top!! I bought them in three different colours and wore them with jumpers, t-shirts and wrap dresses. They would be perfect to wear with the various suggestions above for BFing.

Most of what I wore for the first 6 months was utter shite, but these were fab and easily lasted the year I BF DS. They are now nicely packed away for future DCs!!

TFINaptime · 02/09/2009 13:16

BTW, the website I linked to is just one I found for the purpose of a link. You can get them from lots of online shops and it's worth shopping around. They are MUCH better than any other BFing vest or top.

OP posts:
tulpe · 02/09/2009 14:27

TFINaptime - I shall let you know about the Boden skinny jeans......once they arrive . I got an email on Saturday saying they had been despatched but they have yet to put in an appearance Chez Tulpe. Am also waiting on the Biker Jacket (which would have been fab for the forest walk we did today.......darn sight more attractive than my "mum waterproof"!)

Luxmum · 02/09/2009 15:10

Thank for teh BF vest link, it looks great, i must look out for those, and get some nice cardis for covering up. Hopefully it wont be too cold this winter. My poor nipples cant take the cold when I BF..

janeite · 02/09/2009 15:45

Talking of accessories, what kinds of things will people be wearing?

I have a couple of nice pashminas but little in the way of jewellery - needs to be silver though as am alergic to costume stuff and don't like gold. Also could do with some sort of belt.

LetThemEatCake · 02/09/2009 18:40

Luxmum, don't know what your budget is like but this is the kind of thing that I (a breastfeeding pear) will be wearing ... you could easily spend more or less on items like this, they're pretty basic.

long line cardigan with extra flappy bits to keep baby warm while also covering boobs and bum

tees like this with buttons for boob access

these jeans are the ones I have, my profile pic shows me wearing them, admittedly with very high heels

and chunky boots or ballet flats.

PutDown · 02/09/2009 18:47

Have ordered a pair of skinnies from Next, just to try a pair in the comfort of my own home,so to speak.
Don't usually get on with Next,I have to say.
I am never seen without a chunky necklace(well in public,at least!) and buy from Wallis,Marks and Spencer, East,Accessorize, and Sainsbury's,which has remarkably good and cheap costume jewellery atm.

mazzystartled · 02/09/2009 18:50

anniemac i am shuddering at the thought of maternity treggings

have you tried Toast's churidar, might work underbump.

i think leggings are ok - treggings just remind me too much of ski-pants in the 80s

i suppose its all ok so long as one's derriere is covered.
