Why is it such a sin to wear black boots with jeans?

And what should I wear instead?

This is such a funny thread.

And I do feel the urge to snort when I see the dreaded standard next £20 jean worn over the hideous clarks style boot (as earlier photo) and even worse when worn with a

boxy leather jacket

ruddynorah · 19/04/2009 20:55

what the bolter said.

pointydog · 19/04/2009 20:57

but those top shop boots are horrific!

pointydog · 19/04/2009 20:57

Supercherry, I'd look like a fecking pixie if I wore boots like that with jeans - as I did first time round, but I had a nice arse then, so it didn't matter .
What a load of old toss.

pokeydot · 19/04/2009 21:02

oohhh ive been "doing a kate moss" all my life oohh get me!!!

Supercherry · 19/04/2009 21:03

Lackadaisycal I CAN remember the 80's, there is a picture of me as a kid of about 7 wearing bermuda shorts, neon socks and big white trainers- now that was a fashion shocker if ever there was one!

BocciBalls · 19/04/2009 21:07

loving this thread! only yesterday I put on flat boots (RM Williams) with blue boot cut jeans (Gap) (brands just to show my utter lack of any label-consciousness, fashion awareness etc!) and I just couldn't work out what was wrong - didn't look quite right but not so awful that I had to change. now that I left the house. I will not make this mistake again!

PS - what do I wear my low-heeled boots with then?

Supercherry · 19/04/2009 21:07

They're not ALL that bad- but actually it really is difficult to find ANY boots that look good with bootcut jeans, I was just loking for Jajas and really they are preferable to Clarks.

I think cowgirl boots are quite cute.

jambutty · 19/04/2009 21:09

I wear high ankle boots with laces and dark bootcut jeans and they look good. IMO, of course, but that's all that matters!

LackaDAISYcal · 19/04/2009 21:11

ah, but seven is pre fashion awareness so you are forgiven supercherry.....I was wearing super skinny jeans (used to buy them skinny and then take them in so they were skintight!!) with fuschia stilletos to the pub in the 80s

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/04/2009 21:13

Well you can all fuck off. I'm not wearing heels with my jeans any more.

So flame me.

Sidge · 19/04/2009 21:13

What a load of old tripe.

If I wear jeans I wear boots - either clumpy ones or shorter ones. I have short legs with slim calves and fat thighs so if I wear flat pumps I have legs like triangles. Not a good look. If I wear flip flops I get cold feet. Especially if it's November.

And I wore skinny jeans the first time round. Only we called them Drainpipe jeans then! And I wore those godawful boots in the TopShop link when I was younger - they looked shite then and they look shite now.

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/04/2009 21:13

Photo on my profile to show what a fashion faux pas I regularly commit.

KayHarker · 19/04/2009 21:15

I don't understand.

TheBolter · 19/04/2009 21:18

Right.

Bootcuts are fine with:

Pumps
Trainers
Birkenstocks
Flip flops / flat sandals
Heeled sandals
Courts (especially with a dainty bit of toe cleavage showing. NO SOCKS)
Wedge shoes / sandals
Heeled boots (Only patent black with dark wash denim)
Heeled shoe boots (Ditto.)

The golden rule is to make sure that your jeans reach THE BOTTOM OF THE HEEL. Never wear ankle flappers. It means you need to have day jeans and night jeans in your wardrobe. It makes your legs look longer.

edam · 19/04/2009 21:19

Oh, I remember drainpipe jeans!

Thing is, I'm too fat to wear skinny jeans now and prefer bootcut - straight jeans make me look all wrong. And I lost the knack of walking in heels apart from boots when I was p/g with ds.

So, what does a girl who wants to wear bootcut jeans and a boot with a heel do? Resign herself to looking frumpy?

TheBolter · 19/04/2009 21:20

Heeled boots and shoes can be other colours as well as patent black.

BocciBalls · 19/04/2009 21:24

lol at bolter - no socks with courts and jeans! even I wouldn't do that!

TheBolter · 19/04/2009 21:28

On a cold winter's evening it's tempting though!

Wha-at? I must have missed that part of the thread jajas... IMO there is nothing wrong with brown boots and jeans, although I wouldn't recommend brown boots with an indigo wash and tan boots would be better than dark brown. In fact tan boots look lovely with mid wash and even light wash denim.

Just make sure the boots are reasonably chunky if being worn with with boyfriend or flared jeans.

EyeballsintheSky · 19/04/2009 21:42

You're all bloody mad. The clue is in the name people... bootcut. Designed to accommodate boots. I wear chunky Wranglers which I gather from above, are ok but bollocks to it if they weren't. Jeans go with anything, that's the point of them. Sheesh...

BettySwollux · 19/04/2009 22:59

Hmm, fair bit of mixed opinion then?
Bloody hell, who knew this was such a minefield!
Fuck it, I shall wear what I like.
Thanks for the advice though .
