So this whole minge topiary business...

Does everyone do it these days?
Being an unreconstructed 80s feminist, I am a bit bemused by the fact that it seems to be taken for granted that everyone routinely waxes their fanjo.
Removing, between May and October, any hair that was visible between knicker elastic and knees, counted as perfectly acceptable pubic grooming until the mid-Nineties at least.
But now, apparently you need to look like a prepubescent child to be appropriately groomed.
Is this another of the long line of 21st-century battles feminism has lost?
Or am I the one that's losing it?

Cailleachna, my body image is fine. Would you feel better if I said my labia lips are ugly. Let's be realistic, it's not all tucked away, it looks like a purpley, hangy turkey neck. Much better covered with a bit of hair. PS I'm not losing any sleep over it !

I'm with the general upkeep brigade but full on topiary - yikes...yes it does look rather pre-pubescent and thats not a good look on a 30 something gal....

Labia lips may be ugly, but certainly no more so than men's genitals.

I wax the sides (myself) just enough so it doesn't show in my (weirdly high-legged) speedo swimsuit (the one I use for exercising rather than lounging about in) and trim the rest with scissors. Because I like to. DP never really comments on a preference either way.

I did think complete hairlessness is a bit , and would be quite sceptical of a man who requested them, but having read this thread I see that a lot of women seem to like it.

paolosgirl - I'm not buying into anything I just like not having pubic hair. If you, or anyone else, chooses to remain hairy it's their choice. I wouldn't judge you & don't appreciate being treated like some sort of idiot who's been manipulated by the media and / or the porn industry. I'm an intelligent woman who makes who own choices which are not for anyone else to go round ridiculing. You might feel that it's a feminist issue but I believe that this kind of judgmental behaviour is much more damaging to women than how much pubic hair they have.

Realised this morning why this thread was annoying me. If you say "I feel cleaner and enjoy sex more" bald - that's your choice and good luck to you. When you say "It's cleaner and sex is better" you are actually suggesting your view of this is the only one that matters and that you wish to impose that view on others - including vulnerable teenagers. It's arrogant, patronising and provokes responses about why you're like that.
