Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

Mind you, check out the competition.
Dear God in Heaven

Who is that woman in brown who looks ready to put some coins in a parking meter??
Couple of those Asian women look ok as is woman in pastel suit (boring but appropriate) and tall one on blue.

I can't believe that only two of you pulled Michelle Obama up on that god-awful outfit she is wearing in the picture. And this woman is a fashion icon?? .

I really don't get the obsession with her. She looks like an ordinary, perfectly presentable woman to me, nothing special. Or is it just because of who she is married to? I really don't get it.

Sarah Brown looks fine as she is. OK, her suit could be a size bigger but I'd rather be wearing what she's wearing than Michelle O.

morningpaper · 02/04/2009 19:24

I read the OP and thought "WHAT A BITCH!!!!" but then I saw the picture and

well

It's really bad though

I'm always wearing too-tight clothes but I do live in Taunton and I always shoehorn on the magic pants first

And Ms Obama looks like she bought that outfit from Primark

Swedes · 02/04/2009 19:27

This is a really horrible thread.

traceybath · 02/04/2009 19:28

I do think Sarah Brown needs some wardrobe advice - the clothes just don't suit her figure.

I'm surprised she doesn't lose weight purely because it must be really really hard to see such unflattering photos of yourself and not get incredibly paranoid.

Michelle's cardigan and prom skirt is vile - i do think she has interesting fashion taste but sometimes it really doesn't work.

MadameCastafiore · 02/04/2009 19:30

WHat do you expect a goddess - Gordon Brown is frightfully ugly - only someone with no taste in anything would marry someone who looks like him!

But we didn't (well I didn't vote for him) but you guys who did, didn't vote for him because he was a dead ringer for George (GAY!!) Clooney but because of his political stance so why would you expect his wife to be a stunner?

Habbibu · 02/04/2009 19:32

"it must be really really hard to see such unflattering photos of yourself and not get incredibly paranoid. " Well, let's just hope she doens't read MN.

Maybe she doesn't have body image issues. God forbid, eh?

traceybath · 02/04/2009 19:34

Do many women generally not have body image issues - serious question? I can't say i know one woman whose happy with her body and my perception of women in the public eye is that this is massively exacerbated.

ickletickle · 02/04/2009 19:35

well mind you he was quite a looker when he was younger. and somehow, i dont think he's the sort that marries someone for their looks.

a\nd technically, no one voted for him as prime minster.. but thats another story.

CountessDracula · 02/04/2009 19:36

I doubt anna has a pop at anyone over a size 10 when she herself never gets below a 12...

I think that outfit is very unflattering
If I were her I would have worn some decent underwear

But I don't think she is repulsively fat at all.

ickletickle · 02/04/2009 19:37

sorry and another thing.. isnt interesting how everyone goes on an on about the brown/blair wives (successful career women in their own right) but i cant seem to remeber this hoohaa about norma major ....

moondog · 02/04/2009 19:37

Ooh yes Hab, let's not let concerns about the fact that soon everyone will be a big blob of lard, testing the overstretched resources of the NHS get in the way of worrying about upsetting people with 'eating issues'.

OP posts:
nickytwotimes · 02/04/2009 19:37

Bad outfit.
Normal woman.
Not a nice thread.

Habbibu · 02/04/2009 19:37

Me, traceybath. I genuinely don't. Got psoriasis when I was 16 - maybe that helped, I don't know. Yes, I like to wear nice clothes and have nice shiny hair, but I look at my naked body in the mirror, see its imperfections with a pretty clear eye, and am happy. I think it does a pretty good job, and I'm very fond of it. It's me. It's part of who I am.

MadameCastafiore · 02/04/2009 19:38

So if you don;t marry for looks would you marry someone who makes you gag?

(I have a politics a level, am not a complete goon by the way so I do know we didn't actually put a cross next to Gordy's name!)

Habbibu · 02/04/2009 19:39

Is there nothing in between, MC? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and all that.

browntrout · 02/04/2009 19:39

lone voice here but i really like Michelle's outfit. It may be slightly inappropriate for the occasion but quite like its preppy girlie look - better than tedious suit anyway.
Not a great outfit for SB but this is a mean post IMO and we shouldnt be judging the poor woman so harshly. She has probably been embarrassed having seen the pics herself. She can do without us joining the DM brigade and slagging her off.

nickytwotimes · 02/04/2009 19:39

moondog, you started this thread having a go at someone for asthetic reasons.

CountessDracula · 02/04/2009 19:39

pmsl @ politics A level!

moondog · 02/04/2009 19:40

No, because we are all in thrall to cult of celebrity (re Norma Major comment).
I've just got off a plane packed to gills with Bangladeshi men under 40 going back to Dhaka after stint in Dubai, slaving to build the pleasure palaces so beloved of the Brits. What magazines did they have at the front for public consumption?

Hello and some other crap, both with Jade bleeding Goody on the front.

OP posts:
Habbibu · 02/04/2009 19:40

What? What did I say about eating issues? I said that maybe she DIDN'T have body image issues.

morningpaper · 02/04/2009 19:41

Most women marry someone who makes them gag

moondog · 02/04/2009 19:41

Yes Nicky,I did and I mentioned as much in thread title.
Your point?

OP posts:
browntrout · 02/04/2009 19:42

oh and there is a fab daily mail comment at the end of the article;

'the queen is our first lady, not the prime minister's wife'.

gawd bless 'er

Habbibu · 02/04/2009 19:42

And by not having body image issues I didn't mean isn't concerned about her health, I mean maybe she didn't feel that she had to conform to some feminine "ideal" and dislike her body.
